I love and miss my boys so much

[Demon-Mika] “Hold still and let me devour you.” [Yu, cheerfully] “What, you’re hungry? Okay! I totally don’t mind if you nom on me.” OMG, Yu. There’s a time and a place, buddy! [Yu, reconsidering]“If I let you beat me [eat my soul], you’d wind up crying after. So I guess I can’t let you win. I promised everyone I’d come back alive, too.” There we go. Single brain cell finally engaged!
You’d think it would be tense watching Yu and Mika fight, and there are moments that are…but, given that it’s already been established the lengths that these two will go to avoid hurting each other, and that the battlefields are each other’s subconsciouses rather than the physical world, mostly it’s just intriguing! In terms of threats, Shikama Doji remains the main concern.
We also get confirmation here that Yu and Mika were LITERALLY made for each other…which is actually a more ominous and less cute than it might sound! However, their actual interactions whether now or a thousand years ago will always be exceedingly cute. Speaking of which, is that an ethereally gorgeous Mika portrait on the cover or what? (Double portrait, really. There’s also his demon form looking like an absolute chaos goblin)

[Yu] “So, Mika? I’m not gonna to let you eat me. I’m gonna make you submit instead!” [Demon-Mika] “Brave words, human! I’ll make your deepest desires run wild…and eat you alive!”
[my internal Sterling Archer voice]: “Phrasing, people!”
(Edit: I should note that I'm NOT saying ANY of that should be literalized on page, given the ages of the characters. Just saying: "OMG, how do some people get this far into the story and not see the gay?" And, actually, it would be kinda neat if one or both is actually asexual - which IS established as standard for vampires in this universe - given the lack of ace representation in media broadly and asexual-but-not-aromantic representation in manga. But, at minimum, I hope the ending doesn't actively undermine what very much reads like a love story, even if the publishing niche requires it to stay somewhat subtextual.)
Favorite moments (spoilers, obviously!):
- Yu, reaching into demon-Mika’s heart in an attempt to see what’s wrong or communicate with him, finding himself in a copy of the abandoned grocery store where Mika first drank his blood. Or, as he puts it “This is where Mika came back to me.” Awww!
- Shinoa and Mahiru actually managing to scare the First, who withdraws from their hearts.
- Demon-Mika noticing black suns hanging in the sky over the copy of the ruined city, and wondering whether he’s in “the human’s” heart or his own…and why he can’t tell. Also, why does this human want to “save” him so badly?
- The (honestly unsurprising) discovery that Yu and Mika’s deepest traumas are in fact the exact same thing: the night their chosen family was killed and they were separated from one another. As demon-Mika watches “himself” tell a weeping Yu to run, and Yu protesting that “You’re my family…I finally found a real family!” his heart throbs*. Looking into Yu’s desires, he finds a wish to die. [Demon-Mika] “Aah. That’s right. You always looked so fragile you’d shatter with a touch. I…I want to save you.” Because of course even half-amnesia-d Mika understands the outwardly-confident Yu's psychological issues!
* - Same sound-effect characters as indicate Shinoa's being-in-love-with-Yu response, BTW.
- Mika entering the deepest part of Yu’s heart. We see that his form changes to more or less how he looked when he died as a vampire – just in a more casual outfit – and he sees…nothing else. Just a black void, with a large eye staring at him. There is no confirmation of what this is, but given the friendliness he feels from the gaze (“To you, I’m not an enemy, am I?”) I THINK it is just Yu, because it would make sense if his deepest desire is just...Mika, his age and human and not a part of any military.
- Mika touching the eye, and finding himself as a single eyeball in a tank, in a row of tanks.
[Little Yu] “Woot! Yay! Mika’s room! Mika! Hey, Mika! It’s time to get up, Mika!”
[Noya] “Idiot. He won’t wake up. He’s dead.” [Little Yu] “Mika’ll wake up for me! Cuz it’s my job to wake him up! I was born to do it! Father told me so!...So if I just call his name enough, he’ll wake up!” Noya, though, says Yu is meant to be the sacrifice that will do that. He gets annoyed and kills Yu…and then just grows another one from one of the eyeballs. This repeats, but then Noya uses the eyeball Mika’s consciousness is in, meaning that Mika basically ends up wearing Yu’s body.
- Disconcertingly, the First is able to spot Mika even inside the past Yu. “Oh, hey. There you are. To think you’d come this far back into the past.” Mika frantically scrambles to withdraw, and then hears Yu’s voice: “Send your mind back to me…If we work together, we can get away. It’s okay, Mika. Seraph is finally going places. I mean, it'll probably undo everything that's been accomplished and make us wonder what the point of the story is again, but I can't help but think that maybe - just maybe - we're getting to the heart of the story at last. Shikama set this all in motion, and why we still don't know what "this" is exactly, I think maybe it's starting to make sense? Maybe?
I love Mika. He's so cute as a little demon!Mika. So adorable. Also, definitely getting the vibe that Yu and Mika are OTP. It's been hinted at all along, but it's impossible to miss now. It works. They're cute. Except Yu's an idiot.

This is perhaps the most intense volume of all for Yu and Mika. They’re trying to save each other. They have to hurt each other. Yu started out try to make Mika his cursed gear to save him. Mika started out trying to devour Yu to save him. They got lost in each other, they shared memories trying to save each other. The First was not amused. At all. Some of his actions mean big changes for Shinoa and her allies. In the meantime Urd and Rígr Stafford are playing their own games, recalling their own painful memories, and taking some important prisoners. Revenge appears to be on both their minds, but how will it play out?
It’s great to see Yu and Mika together again, drawing closer and closer to the mystery of who they are, the heart of this entire series, how they connect to the seraph of the end. I’m eager to read the next volume.

Bro this love story is insane?? 😭 Yu is fighting demon Mika, trying to overpower him while Mika doesn't know who he is, but still wants to save him.
Of course their deepest trauma being the same thing?? Damn talk about trauma bonding. Also had me crying in the club when Mika's mind took them to the grocery store where he first drank Yu's blood aka when he came back to him.😭
Then I was screaming and crying even more when I found out they were . Like no I'm not crying I just have soulmates in my eyes.😭
The biggest mistake was jumping to the vampires fighting each other and getting some more lore drop like wait no I don't care about that, go back to my gay sons.

Buen volumen.
Me pregunto si Shikama es el enemigo principal, Saito podría ser un aliado? O simplemente otro enemigo pero con distintos propósitos?
Y quiero saber qué rayos es eso de la creación de Yuus jajasjsj y el Yuu actual cómo ahora vive en el futuro? Y pues también con Mika, ¿como ahora viven en el futuro y son básicamente libres? Creo que debe ser algo relacionado con Saito para arruinar el plan de Siga madu
Estoy triste porque ya estoy al corriente con el último volumen y ahora tendré que esperar mucho para poder leer los capítulos seguidosT^T

Things are getting crazy intense now oml. I cannot believe what is happening with Yuichiro and Mika now with Mika having become a demon trying to take over Yuichiro and him willing to let that happen so he can have Mika back so easily. Also Guren and Mahiru have some sort of plan but they are being super vague about it. Honestly, it is kind of frustrating because I want to know what happens so badly! I hope I learn more about Shikama Doji and his plan for everyone too.

First half is glitzy fighting to showcase Yu and Mika's relationship both their current selves and whatever past versions of themselves Kagami has been cooking up with Yu being a reincarnation eye ball and Mika being some reincarnation of a dead kid.
The vampire stuff is usually more interesting but this time its not. I still don't really care about Rigr/Saito. I mean, I care more now that the hottest man ever born Urd Geales is involved and is shippable with him but I still don't really care about Saito at all.
Some of the old weird inconsistencies show up like Shinoa and others just pulling out demon possessed forms and Mahiru seemingly being a fully physical being now who can take injections which I still don't get. At this point I'm enjoying the story even if some things are odd or seemingly there to help establish the storyline Kagami has been focusing on. I will say this Shikama Doji stuff has been a fun read.
Also Ky Luc goes crazy mode which was fun to see. Why does Kagami draw him so fine when he isn't even really focused on in the story ;n;

I absolutely loved this volume. I felt like some of them have been lacking a certain emotion lately and I really liked the interactions between Mika and Yu in this one.
As usual, the cliffhanger has me wanting the next volume immediately.
