This is just another disappointing entry in what started out as my favorite of the Pokemon game mangas.
So much happens off panel in this volume that I spent almost the entire entry just confused. Had I even read volume 4??? Well readers, she had indeed read volume 4.
What should be epic battles between X, Y, Diantha and Team Flare are glossed over in a couple panels. Blue shows up out of the literal blue (ha) and saves Diantha?? Mewtwo rears its head along with Blaine?? There are so many cool subplots, but just not enough context to make the story even make sense let alone be amazing like it should be. AZ disappears off panel never to be seen again except to mumble cryptic warnings about Zygarde (who we have heard nothing about until now), Lysandre goes shirtless hiding in a place we haven't heard of until one panel ahead of time, and it turns out Gurkin has just been handing out Mega Stones like candy??? Who knows at this point.
Maybe these volumes will make more sense all read back to back instead of reading one every few months as they come out. I'd recommend trying the series that way. Cause right now they just leave me confused and wanting X and Y to get the epic story they deserved but didn't get from a sequel game, but it doesn't look like the manga will give them that either. I'll finish the series, but can't recommend it as one of the great Pokemon Adventures manga.
I loved this one. We got to see Blue again, it's been a long time since we last saw him. He's still just the same as ever. X and Y are working hard with learning mega evolution. This book was so good, I'm excited to read the last one.
Meh the story is kinda wearing thin. The first climax feels stalemated and now there's a bit of rush to fill out teams with Mega Evolvable Pokemon and it's unclear where things are going now.
