Mistaken for an escort by his student's guardian ...
Jace wants to prove to himself that he can be adventurous. Which is why he's using one of those apps for the first time ever. And the gorgeous guy who just showed up is enough to make Jace let go of all his inhibitions.
Nothing is more important to Theo than being there for his orphaned nephew, even if it means staying in the closet. Luckily, Theo can afford a discreet escort service whenever he needs to scratch that itch. Except this latest escort is ... not at all what he expected.
A case of mistaken identity results in one scorching night neither man can forget. When they meet again, it's impossible not to want more—but being together means risking Jace's career and Theo's relationship with his family. Can Jace and Theo keep their distance?
Not For Sale is a steamy 88,000 word billionaire romance featuring teacher/parent dynamics, light rent-boy role play, and a swoony HEA sure to leave you smiling.
Crystal Lacy lives with her loving family in Hawaii, where it is always either drizzling or sunny and never snows—which is a shame, because she prefers being cold to being damp and hot unless it’s for Very Good Reasons. She writes queer romance, mainly M/M, but also some F/F. She has aspirations to one day write a YA novel about cats.
Crystal is a long-time fangirl and writes slash fanfiction for the Untamed/CQL and NBC Hannibal fandoms under the name crystalusagi. She has a deep love for fandom culture, and can be frequently spotted on Twitter and Tumblr reblogging pretty fan art.
This was honestly kind of boring. The pacing was super slow, and the whole thing never really felt like a love connection to me, but rather just lust. And even if it had been “love”, it was definitely INSTA-love. They literally knew absolutely nothing about each other. Every time they were together, they only ever had sex 24/7 instead of even a simple conversation once in a while. It all had a very shallow feel to it.
And sure, some moments were cute, but I definitely didn’t swoon or anything. Somehow none of it really felt romantic to me and I was just not invested in it.
It also became very annoying to me how often Jace was referred to as “adorable” or “cute”. I mean, do not get me wrong, I love endearing and sweet characters so much, but this was just overkill. He was constantly blushing and being shy, and it mostly made me roll my eyes and not take their relationship seriously. I definitely needed him to not be such a doormat either. He let himself get walked all over. Luckily Theo didn’t really take advantage of that, but Jace came across as very weak to me. Also, the whole thing where Theo kept constantly calling Jace a “slut” and “whore” weirded me out so much.
The biggest complaint I had, though, was that nothing really happened in this book, which simply made this very boring and really slow. The book was way too long and it should have definitely been a lot shorter. It was dragged out.
4.5 rounded up. This was a VERY good surprise. I'm not into the rent-a-boy kink but it did not bother me here (it was mild). I really liked how the two MCs got to know each other despite the OTT way they meet. The progression felt nice and genuine, you can feel them slowly falling in love. The book is HOT you'all! At one point I feared there would be too much sex but in the end I did not feel that way, the progression of their sexual dynamic was also great. I loved that they communicated very WELL! I also really loved that the conflict/angst was mostly external (that's kind of rare). The niggles: the wealth difference was not explored enough, one part of the resolution happened off page and I'm never a fan of that, the resolution itself was unbelievable but this book is not very realistic overall so why not. I wish we had more time with Jace's family but we still saw them so it was fine.
Omg this was so cute! Especially Jace. I mean, Theo was georgous but Jace was sooo cute. Theo thought so too, btw.
And so there they were at a hotel bar, having dinner and going up to a room and have one the hottest sexual encounters they both can remember while mistaking the other for the ones they were supposed to meet there. And hot damn, this was hot. It definitely has my approval for a good hookup-with-a-stranger! There was a mirror and a lot of watching involved, just so you know.
Anyway. This was truly a lovey dovey lighthearted sweet as pie comfort read. I loved it. ♡
**********
The one thing that didn’t add up tho was how Theo and Jace met the first time. Well not really how but where! Because they met in a five-star hotel bar. Makes sense for the billionaire Theo is, makes even sense for the high class escort he was supposed to meet there. But for Jace and his Grindr hookup? - that’s Pierce, btw. Two totally average guys, nothing expensive about them. WHY did they agree on meeting at a five-star hotel?? It really made no sense.
Re-read Sept 14, 2022 Still a delicious, sexy comfort read.
“Love you,” Theo mutters. “Love how much you trust me. Love that you just have to smile at me and I’m ready to do anything you want. Anything.”
A sweet, steamy read featuring an adorable history teacher, Jace, at an exclusive private school and a sexy billionaire, Theo, with a nephew at said school. A case of mistaken identity when Jace thinks he’s meeting a date from Grindr, while Theo thinks Jace is an escort. A devoted, closeted uncle who fears losing access to his nephew if outed. Sweetness galore as insta-lust convincingly becomes more. Great secondary characters like Theo’s nephew and Jace’s best friend, a fellow teacher. And all the sizzling sex you can handle.
I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Crystal Lacy. They’re sweet and extremely entertaining. I suspect that Jace’s friend is in love with their principal so I’m anxious to read the next book.
Struggling to rate this one because I should have liked it and I feel like most people would like it.
I actually pulled a DNF a@ 91%. I’m not sure I’ve ever done that. I just kept hoping for more. This had a great premise, some very cute interactions, and a few excellent sex scenes. There was just a lot missing and it’s hard to explain what that was for me. To simplify it, I got bored. There was to much focus on other things and those things weren’t interesting.
I had to search my 'read list' to see how long it has been since I enjoyed a MM contemporary romance as much as I did this one. The answer is Dec, 7 and the book was Down and Out. And, although this one is much fluffier, I appreciated every second of it.
I liked that both the MCs acted like adults. And, the story felt real in the sense as we get to see every aspect of both the MC's life. Their work, family, friends and how the relationship is developed from a one-time thing to HEA.
If only there was a bit of angst towards the end, I would have given it a 5 star. However, I am ready to let it go for the sizzling-hot smut. And, I am a sucker for a dirty talking MC.🤭🤭
okay honestly when I first picked this up k expected something different but damn it didn’t disappointed me at all!! This book got my feelings all over the place 🥹🩷 Theo and Jace were the sweetest I was rooting for them so hard!!! Their dynamic was immaculate so sweet, sexy and steamy absolutely enjoyable. And hellooo?! The smexy time scenes where sooo mouth watering i loved it (also Theos dirty talk was 10/10 didn’t make me feel cringy). I‘m really glad I picked this one up.
The first time they meet it’s not your normally meet cute. Lol. BUT it IS epically HOT! Both mistake the other one’s identity and well it escalated quickly in the hottest of ways. It put them in a trajectory that neither one saw coming.
In this opposites attract story, we get to experience their slow slide into love. It’s super sexy and sweet. I truly fell in love with both characters.
BUT you have to suspend disbelief more than a few times. 1. A teacher is not going to have a car or an apartment WITH a parking lot in Manhattan. Not going to happen. 2. Theo never breaking away from his father sooner. AND the father’s threat?!?! It was just odd. 3. It’s 2021 and they live in NYC, being gay isn’t what it was in 1950. Eye roll there.
Despite all of that, I did like the characters and that saved the book for me. Plus, the extra hot sex. But the arc of the story was a bit meh and a bit unbelievable. I’ll stick around for Kieran’s story in book 2 AND I’m sure I already know who he’s getting together with….a certain boss.
2.5 Stars. The beginning really creeped me out but it the end it was a nice story though I felt the ending rushed and the solution for Jaces job problem disturbing.
Better approach this book with a fire extinguisher, because it's certainly hot! Jace and Theo are such a well matched couple! Both sweet and spicy and perceptive in their own way, while also still being well rounded individuals themselves. I really enjoyed their dynamic as a couple, as well as the problems their circumstances push them into. I generally enjoy Crystal as an author. I find her way of writing to be soothing somehow (even though many of her books have their touch of spice). She has a knack of writing believable, well fleshed characters that generally drive the plot forward. This book was no exception. Theo's relationship with his family money and how he wants to protect his nephew from it. Jace's issues with feeling like the inferior one in every relationship, even when no one considers him to be. Even the friends that show up for a chapter and change are really well rounded. She has an attention to detail in her people that I enjoy, and that makes her books really special.
I liked their meet-cute. Those first few glimpses of their relationship seemed promising as hell.
But then, well, I got bored real fast. The characters didn't have much depth, and the chemistry between them didn't get any better after the first scene.
And the plot was a tad too basic. Nothing I haven’t seen before and quite predictable. Not all that great, really.
Not For Sale is a fun romance by Crystal Lacy. From the start I easily feel into this read and couldn't put it down.
These two start off with a crazy meet cute that left me smiling. They're just too cute together. They are definitely attracted to one another, but have some major obstacles in their way.
Oh, and it doesn't hurt that the sex is hot!
Theo's father is controlling, and holds the care of his nephew over his head. Good god, I love Theo's bond with his nephew and adore every moment with these two.
Not For Sale is just a fun read. I enjoyed all of this Crystal Lacy tale. It's a nice comfort read.
This was an okay read. I like the set up of their first meeting. Theo mistaken Jace as an escort, when Jace was just waiting for his Grindr date. And Jace turned out to be Theo's nephew's teacher. Sounds exciting. But I feel a bit letdown when the misunderstanding was so easily found out and resolved. Theo is a CEO, he had the sexually confident persona there, but he is still in the closet due to his family. Just something about him being this closeted hot CEO doesn't seems to gel for me. Overall, the romance was okay but just lack the intensity and tension to keep me hook.
History teacher Jace meets wealthy stranger Theo on a hook up app. I enjoyed the confusion of their early encounters. It really built the story.
Complications arise because of the many differences between them. Although when they are together they were super hot and lots of fun. Jace's nervous babbling was cute and funny.
Can they overcome all the obstacles that stand between them, of which there are many..?
A well written sexy story with good pace and flow. I enjoyed the secondary characters showing strong and fun friendships and family. A little angst to spice up the story line made for a satisfying hea when they got there.
Finished this with a wide grin on my face. A delicious sexy romance with likeable and adorable MCs and great secondary characters. I also loved that one of the heroes is Asian!! Yassss!!!
this is what happens when you let a poc write a book about them. i love the chinese references as a chinese myself. love the untamed too. its very cute. altho it touches more on the american chinese side but it was cute. love the characters. love that there was no misunderstanding. id love to read keiran's book and the principal in the future.
Crystal Lacy is a new to me author and if this book is any indication, one I will be reading more of in the future.
Not For Sale begins with a case of mistaken identiy when Jace mistakes Theo for his grindr date and Theo mistakes Jace for the escort he hired for the evening. Neither realizes that they aren't meeting who they thought they were until after they share a steamy night that neither can get out of their minds. However, with nothing except first names exchanged, they have no way to contact one another.
That is until Theo has to go to meet with his nephew's teacher when Gideon gets into a fight at school. The teacher, of course, is Jace. This sets off an incredibly steamy and secretive relationship between the two men. The reasons for the secret are good ones as far as reasons for secret romance goes. Theo is still in the closet from his homophobic father, the man who has custody of his beloved nephew. Jace is worried that he could lose his job for being involved with the uncle of a student and he's still on a probationary contract.
I also like that this book doesn't fall victim to the other tropes that often accompany a secret relationship. No one else is involved to make either of them look less single. There are no communication mishaps. In fact, Jace and Theo's amazing communication skills impress me throughout the course of the book. Their communication is one of the things that makes me love the couple as much as I do, as well as makes the relationship feel more real.
And the side characters? I'm in love with Kiearan and cannot wait to read his book when its released. I loved Gideon from the jump. He is such a cute kid, along with his friend Nicky.
I honestly had a hard time putting this book down and I know for a fact I will be back again - both to this couple in this book and to the author on future novels. I highly recommend this book.
I loved Brother-In-Law Material by Crystal Lacy so it was no surprise that I absolutely adored this book too.
The story follows wealthy CEO Theo Jameson and history teacher, Jace Li. Theo is in the closet due to his homophobic father and he stays in the closet because he fears he will lose his nephew, Gideon if his father finds out about his sexual orientation. Therefore, Theo is extremely cautious about his hook-ups. He pays sex workers and even gets them to sign an NDA
When Jace and Theo meet for the first time, they have a dinner and a steamy night together but they are left with a misunderstanding. After the misunderstanding is cleared and a couple chance encounters later, the two men finally get the ball rolling. However due to the dynamic of their relationship and Theo still being in the closet, it's not an easy ride for them to navigate.
I am a little over main characters in M/M romances who don't stand up to their homophobic relatives. However, I do understand that Theo was doing it for his nephew . Overall, I enjoyed both Jace and Theo. Jace was a little annoying in the beginning but once things started to pick up, he became more enjoyable. I thought that they were both interesting and well developed characters. There were some parts that felt a little slow but overall, I thought the book was well paced. and the story was easy to follow.
Thank you Gay Romance Reviews for providing me with an ARC of the book.
I want more of Jace and Theo! Steamy and sweet at the same time. I also love Crystal Lacy’s writing, so vivid and natural. It helps that she’s been writing fanfic for some time plus she adores The Untamed (I loved that she put that on her author page). I’ve lined up her other books to read and I can’t wait!😍
Urocza historia przypadkowej znajomości nauczyciela historii i miliardera. Jace, z jego niekontrolowanym słowotokiem i rumieńcami, naprawdę przypadł mi do serca. Nieprzyzwoicie bogaty Theo również był fajny. Fabuła lekka, nawet mimo kilku poważnych wątków. Ogólnie słodka, idealnie letnia lektura.
This was both sweet and spicy and I definitely enjoyed it. I liked the faux rent boy story line to make the meet cute a delightful encounter that’s outside the norm. I’m just annoying about characterization and a few moments/character actions and choices made me raise my eyebrow and fall out of the story a bit. But hey, at the end of the day this is a millionaire (excuse me, Billionaire, lol) top & middle income bottom story that’s fun and worth a read.
This book was the perfect comfort read, lighthearted and soft vibes with plenty of steam. While some angst its resolved in a wonderful way, the relationship between Jace and Theo is so sweet.
From their first meeting Theo and Jace have incredible chemistry, the mirror scene is pure heat and I adore how the escort aspect became a kink for them. Despite the misunderstanding of their first meeting, I enjoyed how they didn't instantly jump nto bed together again and that they got to know each other more.
Both have reasons they shouldn't get together, with Jace being the teacher of Theos nephew and Theo being in the closet. Yet they have such a pull toward each other and just fit perfectly, supporting one another and the feels are lovely.
I liked Gideon and Nicky too, they were so sweet and great to see how important Gid is to Theo. Family relationships in this book were well developed not only in Theos struggles with his parents, but Jace had great moments with his siblings and parents too. I liked how these relationships were given focus too.
Also fell in love with Jace best friend Kieran, who I believe has own book and I am intrigued to read. Based purely on what seen here should be an interesting romance and his such a fun character.
Overall I had so much fun reading this book, has a good amount of kink and steam. While having a lot of character growth, romance and development. The ending is adorable, so fitting to their relationship and future together 💕
There were times it dragged a bit for me but honestly, by the end, I felt so warm and happy and attached to these characters by the end I’m glad it wasn’t shorter. Not only is it refreshing that it’s an interracial couple (which there are not enough of and it’s a crime), but their personalities and relationship was so vivid and sexy and sweet. I appreciated the addition of Gideon as well. This was just an all around great book.
Not For Sale starts off with a double case of mistaken identity and then things get really interesting (and complicated) when their paths cross again. I really enjoyed this book - it has two really sweet main characters and is low angst.
Theo Jameson is in the closet solely because of his homophobic father. He’s the CEO of his family company and loves his nephew Gideon more than anything. While he starts off as the typical workaholic CEO, he starts to realize what’s really important when Jace and Gideon show him what’s really important.
Jace Li is Gideon’s history teacher and he’s afraid to be with Theo for a lot of reasons. He’s a little awkward, a lot self-conscious and loves his job. Once he meets Theo, he’s intrigued by the billionaire that loves his nephew more than anything.
Theo and Jace have some sizzling chemistry and are really good for each other - they both bring something to the relationship that the other needs and support each other to be happy. The development of their relationship from mistaken identity to falling in love is bumpy and a little messy, but it’s pretty clear they belong together. The difficulties they faced were pretty conveniently wrapped up, in large part because of Theos access to money, which was a little frustrating but ultimately ended up working out.
I really liked this world that Crystal Lacy built and I’m hoping to see more of all these characters in a future book...Kieran - I’m ready for you!
Holy Alexander this book is good! It’s super sweet and super hot. Jace is an adorably awkward history teacher who tries online dating after breaking up with his terrible boyfriend. A misunderstanding has him meeting Theo, a closeted billionaire who mistakes Jace for the escort he hired. They have a hot night together and expect it to be a one time thing, but neither man can forget about the other. They meet again at a Parent Night at Theo’s nephew’s school. It’s all kinds of uncomfortable, but they have a chemistry that can’t be ignored. Jace is really kind but a little dorky. He doesn’t have a lot of self-esteem after his ex told him he was boring. Theo makes him feel sexy and powerful. Theo is afraid to live his life as a gay man for fear that he’ll lose both his company and his nephew to his homophobic father. Theo and Jace really bring out the best in each other. Theo helps Jace find confidence in himself, and Jace allows Theo to open himself up to love and to explore his softer side. Not For Sale is a truly lovely story.
