Okay, I got the feeling that this book was missing several chapters in the middle. Up until chapter 20, it’s one story, and from chap 21 to 26, it’s a completely different story.
We go from a high school hot guy-nerd dynamic to gangs, knives, blood and shooting?
The female protagonist, who was a complete doormat and too scared to even look at her bullies, all of a sudden becomes so powerful she can withstand being sliced with a knife by the bad guy?
All characters, we barely get to know any of them. We scrape the surface of their personalities, just enough to get the story going. We don’t get to know anything about the supporting characters either, any info is severely limited by how fast the story goes.
Show, don’t tell, a completely unknown concept. Emotions, they are better understood when they are shown, not when the characters tell us how they feel.
26 chapters, and we go through the whole process. Those last 6 chapters, it’s like warp speed. The whole gang thing, we barely get any mention of it. Just some passing rumors that the girl overhears, and a tiny tiny hint by the hero at the end of a chapter. That’s it.
And that ending? I could almost hear that record sound when someone pulls the needle. Wham, bam, the end. No explanations, no interactions with other characters. The last three chapters were literally: The hero is tied in the warehouse and he hears a gunshot, then next one he’s arrested and locked up with his bail at 300,000 dollars (we never find out why the police arrest him, or how his two high school buddies come up with the money to bail him out), then last chapter is one month later, where the hero visits the grave of his first love, then he reunites with our heroine, who in the meantime has found out that their relationship was a bet, but she is willing to try this relationship for real.
In a different book, all this would have been fine, if there were a few more scenes in between, explaining the why and the how and help the flow of the story a bit. Sadly, this is not the case with this one. This was not a gentle flow, this was a downpour of too much happening too fast.
The potential is there. This is the basis for a decent story. However, this is the first draft. Not the final product.
But then again most books on Galatea are much like this, quickly written, not at all edited, and with so many clichés the eye rolls are almost mandatory.

I was reading this story on Galatea, but just could not focus on the story due to all the spelling errors. And I just could not relate to the main female character. So I stopped reading.

A quick read.
It’s very choppy in structure, some plot points come out of nowhere.

So f…ing stupid..

So many holes, so hard to follow—set in England, but definitely not written by someone who is from there or has at the very least done their research to make it a credible setting.

Some dude, who is apparently a gang leader (which came out of left field), smacked the FL, and kicked her in her stomach…on school property, and he was not expelled? Forget expelled—no charges were brought?

It just doesn’t make sense and it’s so unbelievably cringey, the characters aren’t consistent in personality or anything. The main guy is a player because apparently his girlfriend was killed by this gang he joined. He decides to sleep with the FL because some dude (the leader of the gang and the one that ordered the hit on his dead girlfriend) challenges his manhood and says he can’t. But now he’s threatening to kill the FL…because…? Who knows. Over it.

This is a hard one to rate... I'm conflicted with the rating since I'm on the fence of a 2 or 3 star.

It's not like I absolutely disliked it or couldn't finish it.
It had potential and while I read it all on Galatea, I felt like it started to rush around chapter 20. It could have used more chapters or longer chapters to fully build the plot and characters. Felt like it jumped right from going to a football game to gang related event. Trying not to include spoilers so can't say much. Some things were cleared up at the end in a way, again just felt rushed once you hit a certain point.

I feel like while you can kinda sense Ava's feelings growing, you don't really get that from Hunters POV but later it switches- just felt fast and needed more for their relationship growth especially for the way it started. He also mentions being in a gang, but still feels like it was thrown in out of no where toward the end. Him trying to win the bet too, it felt like he was mainly just helping Ava gain confidence and trying to win the bet (the bet in general really) was just pushed to the back burner.
I know in a couple reviews, they say not sure Hunter's deal with Jessica and Declan but at least for Declan the question is answered. Ava has some character development going from trying to hide in the background nerdy girl to a bit more confident. Although the whole nerdy girl is constantly brought up. In the beginning does mention her friend wanting to get close to one of the people in Hunter's circle, which was the main point Ava agreed to fake date but that was basically the end of that and never mentioned really again.

- fake dating due to bet
- some triggers: kidnapping, assault

I read this book on one of this pay per chapter apps

Nerdy girl becomes subject to a bet with a jock and his friends.

I didn’t like the writing style of this app. The majority of the chapters are random dribbling of the inner thoughts of a teenage girl. The ML isn’t very likeable, and you are left with a lot of questions. Was Drew a student at the school? What was Jessica’s deal with him and why did Hunter want to get back at them? And why was Declan always a prick? Meh.

Very She’s All That plus a little danger! I need more romance versus constantly being reminded how nerdy she is. I wound also have liked more of Hunter’s POV. I enjoyed the ending and the overall storyline.

This book was not very consistent. It was all over the place. Hunter the MMC had no redeeming qualities at all and the FMC Ava was a pushover. There were also a lot of errors .

it had potential, real potential. The story started strong, then it went super fast and I feel like there should of been a few more chapters

I was interested at first but as the story went on things started not making sense. Felt like there were details missing and the story was progressing rapidly as well the main characters love. Also the end felt rushed. With more details and more refined storyline, would be a great book.
