The girl he’d loved was now a woman in trouble. He wasn’t going to let her down. But she might not like how he did it.

I've said it before, and I will say it again: I will never get tired of this series. Doesn't matter how many books or spin offs, it's like book crack and I can't get enough.

Deke Murphy is a character that didn't fully catch my attention in this series if I'm honest. But if there's one thing that Lexi is good at, it's throwing out one hell of a hook at the end of her book. And the hook at the end of The Dom Identity? Let's just say I was salivating. I love a good second chance romance.

Maddie and Deke were high school sweethearts. She was the brainy one with a golden future, and he was the sexy jock. Maddie thought she'd spend her life with him until he broke her heart and broke up with her so she'd pursue her dream in Yale. Now it's twenty years later, and Deke is the only person who can help Maddie, who finds herself in a deadly situation. Her tech giant boss may be doing something that could be behind something dangerous, and she's determined to get to the bottom of it.

Now I have to say I like a bit more tension and angst in my second chance, and this didn't quite have that. Though, if you like pining heroes, this will do the trick nicely. Because Deke knows exactly what he lost and he's determined not to make the same mistake twice. I loved his growth and maturity of his character. He owns his mistakes. He doesn't go all caveman on Maddie, though he is super protective of her.

Maddie was one it took be a bit to warm up to. She's someone who's too smart for her own good types. Like she's so busy looking at things from a black and white perspective, that she misses the little obvious things.

The suspense here is what ultimately stole the show for me. Who is Jane and what secret is she hiding? And holy shit, y'all! When the truth is revealed, my jaw was on the floor. I didn't see it coming at all. And the set up for Drake's book? DELICIOUS.

All in all, this one hit the spot nicely, though it wasn't all the things I hoped. I got my Ian banter, and steamy BDSM with some high octane suspense, so it's a win.

Great blend of suspense, steam, and second chance romance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love second-chance romance stories. They just get you in the feels if they are written in the right way and this one is written in a fabulous method.
This story offers a bit of everything; suspense, hot scenes with a very light taste of BDSM, and wonderful characterization that makes this one book you do not want to stop reading.
I loved Deke. He was so in love with Maddie. He was so sweet, loving, and protective of her, it just makes you want to sigh. Not to mention his alpha ways were spot on.
Maddie was a delicate balance for him. Cautious, straightforward, but all in for Deke in her heart. I love that she was the brain in the story. Nice twist.
Blake crafted a book that was a treasure to read. It had been years since I read her and I am thrilled to have found her again, especially in this series.
The Man from Sanctum offers a great blend of suspense, steam, and second chance romance for a well-rounded book that can easily become my next addiction!
The Man from Sanctum is certainly interesting. It started so slow that I almost drop the book. When I pushed it, the story between Deke and Maddie certainly burning some hot sizzling romance. Miss Blake does not waste her time to write sappy, OTT reunion. Simple to the point.
I usually like my BDSM romance bit darker, but somehow Miss Blake made it work with her writing style. The plot and twist can be bit more darker, but hey, I enjoy the story very much.
The BDSM scenes are not very graphic but it is still hot.
Overall a very enjoyable read.
What a great addition to the series!
Deke Murphy and Maddie Hall have some very undeniable chemistry even after being apart for so many years so when Maddie comes to Deke for help he knows he will do everything in his power not only to help her but also to make her his again.
This book has a lot of twists and turns so pay attention and see if you can follow the clues because you may figure things out before the big reveal like I did but that didn't lessen the reveal at all because Ms. Blake does those in a big way, which I always enjoy.
This story is filled with Suspense and Steam in equal measures. I loved how Deke was with Maddie with introducing her to true BDSM even though they had a light D/s relationship when they were together in high school even if they didn't recognize it for what it was. She bloomed under his control and it was great to see how she trusted Deke even though he had broken her heart once before.
If you enjoy Romantic Suspense, Second Chance Romances, or BDSM Romances I would recommend this book to you.
Happy Reading!!!
Tension-filled romantic suspense…
This author continues to surprise me. How she does it series after series is beyond me, but I’m more than happy to keep on reading!
Deke and Maddie’s story was a second chance at love but also a suspenseful, roller coaster ride. What do you do when faced with something completely out of your depth? Potentially dangerous? Call in the experts of course - even if they are your ex. And your feelings are soon invested once again…
The sizzle between these two was fiery and I cheered for them to stay one step ahead of the bad guy (of course). What I really wanted was for them to work out their differences and, after all these years, have that ever after they deserved. Deke was all in and I wanted him to win back his girl after the huge sacrifice he made. The jock and brainiac trope worked beyond well and these two wrote the book on an ‘opposites’ couple.
With the BDSM elements this author does so well, this love story had it all! ~Diane, 4 stars
Maddie needs help. Normally the woman with the smartest brain in the room wouldn't need help, but this is the kind of help only a specialist in the field can give her. Who better than the boy, now all man, who broke her heart in high school when he pushed her out and walked away?
Though Deke did indeed leave his Maddie, he never stopped loving her, in fact, only left because he thought it was what was best for her at the time. Now that he's been given a second chance to be in her life, to protect her, he'll do everything in his considerable power to do just that - protect her and secure a second chance at her heart. He just has to make sure he doesn't crush her heart the way he did back then.
I have been loving this series centered around a group of operatives of all kinds who now take down the bad guys and love each other as family. Deke is the jock, a Dom for sure, but not overly controlling or cold, and it was the love of his life who had the big brain. I absolutely loved Maddie, how smart she was, how she always had to process things before accepting, or not, them. She and Deke made an intense couple, and I was rooting for them to get that second chance Deke so wanted. Their chemistry, both within the context of the BDSM scenes and outside of them, was sizzling, and I could feel the love they shared even though it had been years since they had seen each other. There's suspense and action of course, and a setup for another op, Drake, to get his own story next. Can't wait!
Highschool sweethearts, Deke Murphy broke Maddie’s heart when he ended their relationship right before graduation so she wouldn’t pass up a full scholarship to Yale. But almost two decades later, Maddie shows up unexpectedly at his door looking for help to take down her boss who may be out to set loose a weapon of mass destruction that she unintentionally helped to create.
Holy bejeeezus, Lexi Blake! I did not see all of what happened in this book coming my way until it was too late and I was left shell shocked!
First off, I loved Deke and Maddie! She is a complete genius, but lacks friends and someone to care about her and not what she can do with her brain. And, Deke . . .lordy, just like a man he thinks hes giving her what she needs by sacrificing himself, but really, all she needs is him. I loved their reconnection and Maddie’s need to protect her heart while Deke finally uses all his years of therapy to understand just how badly he blew it with the love of his life the first time around to make sure he doesn’t do it again! Toss in some BDSM and this couple was on fire!
The suspense . . . ahhhhh! I’m still recovering. This plot is deep and twisted and it’s going to take books to resolve before we get to the final showdown, I just know it, even though Maddie and Deke’s part is nicely wrapped up in this book. I adored Boomer and I can’t wait for his book this spring! And, Kyle and MaeBe . . . you are not nice to your characters sometimes Ms Blake!!!! Of, this couple is the long arc crossing books and man oh man . . . Ian was fabulous, as always as well and it was a joy to see Kayla back in action, even if it was just for a little while!
The Man From Sanctum doesn’t let up at all and keeps pushing forward at a frantic pace as it’s up to the McKay-Taggart crew to save the world yet one more time. 5 stars!
Not my favourite but still an extremely good read!
Maddie and Deke are high school sweethearts, life has taken them down separate paths, when Maddie needs helps she knows there only one person to go to.
The storyline was a brilliant, a typical Masters & Mercenaries one, and I found the ongoing storyline was front and centre for me over Maddie & Deke relationship journey, I also found myself more interested in secondary characters then the main ones so for this reason I gave 4 stars. The storyline is building into an epic finale, Drake, Kyle, Maebe and my favourite Boomer! (who reminds me very much of Tucker, if you’ve read the whole series you’ll remember him)
Totally worth reading! Looking forward to next book
This book is a high-tech spy thriller interspersed with emotional angst and hot sex.
When Deke refused to let Maddie turn down a full ride scholarship to Yale, he broke her heart and set her on a path where she dedicated her brilliant mind-and hot body-to her work. There has been no one else she has been willing to get into a relationship with in the 20 years since high school. But when she discovers her boss is using her work for some mysterious and possibly dangerous uses, she runs to Deke.
I liked Maddie. She is smart, brave and a good person. Deke is almost too good to be true, model handsome, fit, kind-and still in love with Maddie. But with a mystery woman manipulating Maddie’s boss, the CIA, and members of the McKay-Taggart team involved, can Deke prove he won’t push Maddie away again-and keep her safe.
The secondary love story between MaeBe and Kyle heats up in this book, but the stage is set for the conclusion of their story in a later book. The book also features the author’s belief that family is what you make it, not necessarily what you are born into.
All in all a very satisfying read from a master storyteller.
The beginning part to this one was interesting. Maddie and Deke had a lot of issues that they needed to work out and it took a bit. It also took a bit to convince Big Tag that there was something with what Maddie had issues with. But once everyone was headed back to CA things smoothed out a bit. The team was on the same page, with a new addition, but ready to support Maddie as she did what she needed to. Towards the end it got so very messy! The past came into play, so many double crosses, so much at stake that others thought they needed to take some crazy steps. But it was the last few lines that stunned me, didn't see that coming, but it will sure make for some interesting reading to come. I was glad that despite what happened and how things ended, at least Maddie and Deke found their HEA.
Really enjoying this arc of the series. I could have used a little more relationship development on this one, especially since Deke is one of the MCs we know the least about/whose story there's been the least build up to, but I loved him and Maddie (who was fantastic!!!) and I think they really worked together. I just wish we'd gotten more of their relationship and it hadn't gotten quite so overwhelmed by the plot. I was pleasantly surprised by how they ultimately addressed their high school break up as related to his own insecurities, and that it was made clear that Maddie would have gone on to Yale no matter what and ultimately the fact that Deke took away her choice because he was scared was not the right call, even if he justified it as for the right reasons. I feel like it's so rarely handled that way when the MCs had a previous relationship, and this just works so much better for me (and is correct!).
On the Kyle/MaeBe front, he is obviously an idiot, and I look forward to her kicking his ass in what I assume will be the final book in this arc/the one that should follow Drake's.
Lot of plot stuff going on here, and I appreciated the way the Consortium/Julia arc moved along. I don't think I realized she and Drake were siblings. Should make for a very interesting next book in the series, and I am, once again, extremely annoyed that I have managed to get caught up on this series so now I have to wait. Alas.
Reread 2/9/23: Maddie, love of my life. That is all.
M/F Second-Chance Romance
Triggers: Hidden because they may contain spoilers.
Maddie is a woman who knows what she's worth. She has always been a bookworm and loves learning. She's worked very hard to get where she is and when she figures out that something isn't quite right with her job, she knows there's only one person she can trust. Pulling up her big girl panties, she treks off to find the one person who can help her.
Deke is a great character. He's easy to like. While he wasn't the brightest in his younger years, it was nice to see that he's learned from his mistakes. Deke has always loved Maddie. After seeing her for 20 years, you get to see why nothing else ever worked. Maddie was there for him even when he didn't know she was there for him.
Second chances are rare and these two don't waste their time together. When Maddie and Deke head to the club, Maddie's eyes are opened and Deke's realization that it has always been a little like that for them is a revelation.
Can these two find their way back to each other and escape the sinister plan following Maddie around?
I can't wait for the next one!
This is the third book in this spin-off series and, amazingly, book 24 of the Masters & Mercenaries collection. I adore these books and am always so excited when a new one comes out. If you have not read them yet, then I would recommend that you go back and enjoy them all. I think you could read this new and enjoy it, but you would be in the dark about so many connections which are present. I adore the opportunity to catch up with everyone and chuckle at how Big Tag is such a softie.
We start with an event from 14 years ago, when Maddie thought she would show Deke that she had made it without him... not knowing he was badly affected by being tortured whilst at war. She makes some suggestions to help him, and leaves. We soon learn that her advice did the trick, and though she never mentions it, I loved that she would hear that information and feel she had done well.
Fast forward to now, and she is fearful of what is happening at work and makes a complicated trip to find Deke and avoid detection. They may not have seen each other for years, but she knows that he needs to help her. She used his name, and the knowledge from his sister that he was into BDSM, to gain the attention of her boss. And so starts an unexpected renewal of their one-time relationship amongst the danger which surrounds Maddie's work.
I loved that we got to spend time with Kyle, Maebe, and even Drake, as the team find that they are once again facing The Consortium and their megalomanic plans. The rest you will need to find out by reading the book – as I have no intention of revealing any spoilers. But be prepared for the crazy!
One thing I always find with these stories is that I read at speed for ages, and then suddenly something is going to happen that I am nervous of reading, and so I have to stop and take a break and then dive back in again. Fabulous!
(Also hints as to the next story, and it is undoubtedly going to be amazing!)
Mary – ☆☆☆☆
I love this series and it doesn't matter what number book this is or what couple it is about, I have come to want to read each one and get lost in their world for a little while.
This was Deke and Maddie's story that started in the past, which broke my heart because Deke broke up with her thinking he was doing what was best for her.
Now it is 17 years later and she is back in his life, needing his help. But what she is asking could put both of them in danger, not to mention their hearts too. As they work together with Deke's team to figure out what Maddie's boss is up to, there is so much going on. The suspense and intrigue will keep you glued to the pages until you find out what happens, and then you are left wanting more.
I always look forward to the next book from Lexi Blake, and now I need to know what happens next.
4.5 stars--THE MAN FROM SANCTUM is the third instalment in Lexi Blake’s contemporary, adult MASTERS & MERCENARIES: RELOADED erotic, romantic suspense series-a spin off from the author’s various interconnected Masters and Mercenaries series, as well as a cross over with the author’s LAWLESS series. This is Dom/security specialist/former CIA Special Ops Deke Murphy, and IT/computer programmer specialist Maddie Hall’s story line. THE MAN FROM SANCTUM can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line and series is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise there are some scenes of bondage and discipline, domination and submission including spanking.
Told from third person perspective THE MAN FROM SANCTUM follows the rebuilding romance relationship between Dom/security specialist/former CIA Special Ops Deke Murphy, and IT/computer programmer specialist Maddie Hall. Approximately seventeen years earlier Maddie Hall’s heart was destroyed when her high school sweetheart, Deke Murphy, sent our heroine packing, without looking back. A disastrous Special Ops mission destroyed our story line hero, and in the ensuing years, Deke Murphy found a home with McKay-Taggart Operations, a group that specializes in undercover and dark ops investigations but Deke never expected to come face to face with the woman he pushed out of his life, a woman who is desperately looking for help in the face of a potential disaster. Enter IT/computer programmer Maddie Hall, and the woman with whom Deke is still in love. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Deke and Maddie,and the potential fall-out betrayal and vengeance are the name of the game.
Maddie Hall was devastated the day the boy/man that she loved pushed our heroine out of his life, and Deke refused to be the reason she stayed behind. Deke Murphy’s time in Special Forces left our hero a shell of his former self, having endured a lifetime of pain and suffering like no one else. Rekindling his relationship with Maddie has always been a priority but Maddie needs a Dom in an attempt to ferret out a potential betrayal and the possibility of a her life’s work used for nefarious purposes.
The relationship between Deke and Maddie is one of second chances: a rekindling romance and relationship in which Maddie needs to go undercover as a submissive, and Deke is the only man she trusts as her controlling Dom. Maddie is a newbie in the world of BDSM, a little naïve to the nuances of a Dom/sub relationship but Deke is determined to prove he is the man she has always loved. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate; the Dom/sub relationship contains scenes of bondage, discipline and spanking-our heroine isn’t a true submissive, and pushes at the boundary between submission and control.
There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters including most of whom we have met in previous story lines including Ian and Charlotte Taggart, IT specialist Mae Beatrice Vaughn aka MaeBe, former CIA agent Kyle Hawthorne, CIA operative Drake Radcliffe, Adam Miles, Jake and Boomer. We are introduced to Maddie’s boss and world renowned inventor Nolan Byrne, and his ‘associate’ Jane Adams. Once again, the members of The Club/Sanctum/and McKay Taggart are a family, such that each person is a part of the whole, a family that is often closer than blood but deception places the team in jeopardy leaving heart break and mistrust in its’ wake.
THE MAN FROM SANCTUM is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, forgiveness and acceptance, love and understanding. The premise is intriguing, revealing and captivating; the romance is seductive, erotic and intense; the characters are desperate, energetic, determined and strong.
Another thrilling read from Lexi
Lexi Blake never fails to bring mystery, suspense, thrills, and sexy hot couplings to her stories, and with THE MAN FROM SANCTUM she has once again succeeded. Deke Murphy and Maddie Hall were once childhood sweethearts, but Deke made a decision, knowing it would break Maddie's heart, and left her behind, also knowing it was the right thing to do at that particular time. Seventeen years have passed and Maddie is back in Deke's life ... but this time she needs his help.
This story was simply unputdownable. From beginning to end it was drama filled, suspenseful, and oh so sexy with the Dom/sub BDSM scenes and relationship. Deke was divine. He was a 'teddy bear', I just wanted to cuddle him constantly. Yes, his time in the military had an adverse effect on him, but he was a man who would do anything for anyone who asked for his help. He was lucky enough to have two families who were always there for him, his own immediate family, and his family at Taggart/McKay. Maddie, a tech scientist, was simply adorable, but somewhere along the way her work life had taken over everything else. Lately she had started to become suspicious of her boss and his dealings, something just wasn't right. One thing was certain though, the way in which this mystery was to be solved was going to take a radical approach ... she needed to be in a Dom/sub relationship, and they only man she trusted enough for that was ... Deke.
I adored Deke and Maddie, they were absolutely perfect for each other. Even though they had spent the past seventeen years apart, the feelings for each other still existed. I just love how Lexi writes her characters, they are realistic and relatable, and their relationship followed a natural progression. I must admit, the scenes where Maddie and Deke are together ... well, they're not just hot, they're explosive. I love how Deke manages to bring Maddie out of her shell, and show her the life she has been missing while she has been concentrating heavily on her work.
Lexi always ensures that her stories are heart-pounding, dangerous, emotional, full of twists and turns, and always incredibly sexy. If there's a Lexi Blake novel to be read, you can be assured it will work its way into my hands. Another thrilling read. Now to wait for No Time To Lie.
Note: An ARC was provided by the author.
Lexi Blake's Masters and Mercenaries book universe is the gift that keeps on giving! The Man from Sanctum is the latest addition, coming in as the third in the Masters and Mercenaries: Reloaded spin-off and twenty-fourth overall in the M&M (not to be confused with the confection, although some melting may happen as well...) book world. This second-chance romantic suspense read is about Deke Murphy and Maddie Hall, two people who shouldn't have made sense together, but their love was one that promised forever...until tragedy tore them apart. All these years later, Maddie finds herself in a bit of trouble, and the one person she can think of to help her is none other than Deke. They'll investigate her boss and get to the bottom of things, and afterwards, they'll go their separate ways...or could this be their shot at getting it right? But first, they need to survive those coming for them.
I do love me a romance about second chances, and when mixed with some action and suspense, all done well, of course, then consider me a happy camper. It was clear that Deke knew letting Maddie go all those years ago was a mistake, and it's one that he's had to live with for two decades. The guy was sincere, loyal, and protective, and he still had major feelings for his ex. While I'm not a fan of one party ending a relationship for the sake of the other without talking about things openly and honestly instead of the whole self-sacrifice thing, Deke was a stand-up guy who loved with his whole heart. On the other hand, Maddie was someone who was a beauty with a brain, and while she may have tried to resist this second go-around, these two had a connection that demanded to be explored yet again. Add in all that fantastic suspense with the romance, and Lexi Blake has delivered another winner in The Man from Sanctum. This receives 4.5 stars.
This was a lot of fun.
By this point in the series, if you have read all of the books, you have a pretty good idea what you are getting into when you start one of these books... although they also function well as standalones so if you are new to the series you can start anywhere and while you won't know the history of the characters you learn enough through the story to have an idea as to the roles the support characters play.
Deke and Maddie were a couple in high school and then, in order to save her from making a bad decision, Deke breaks things off with her instead of talking to her... so when they see one another again years later the attraction is there but so is some of the damage from their past.
I love second chance stories, especially when they are well written and make you believe but only in the previous connection but also that the connection was strong enough in the past to still matter to the characters now. This title does or excellent job of mashing both the past and the present work for Maddie and Deke.
Add in some crazy people, the CIA, and an AI device capable of changing space exploration and you have a second chance romance that also has a really strong backstop to allow you to believe the situation they find themselves in.
Their chemistry works well, you believe in them as a couple, and this is a great and fun read.
I enjoyed and recommend this title.
Deke and Maddie were high school sweethearts and first loves, but he broke it off before they graduated because he knew their love would hold her back. Maddie was angry at him for years, but she eventually for over it, knowing he did the right thing and that it hurt him as much as it hurt her, maybe more considering everything he went through on deployment. More than a decade has passed when Maddie finds herself in trouble and Deke is the only person who can help her.
They’re falling all over again, but that could distract them from the mission and make them even more vulnerable. There’s so much at stake and even more threats than they realize. This book had me turning pages like crazy because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I couldn’t put it down. This isn’t just about Maddie and Deke either because his team is involved and the past comes back to haunt someone. There’s not much to say without giving away the best parts but this book will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
5 Star Review of The Man From Sanctum (Masters and Mercenaries Reloaded #3) by Lexi Blake
Deke Murphy and Maddie Hall’s second chance at love story ticked all the boxes for me. I was captivated by the story that Lexi Blake wove and read this one in almost one go. Years ago Deke dumped his high school girlfriend Maddie knowing it was the right thing to do for her.
Fast forward seventeen years and Maddie believes that Deke is the only man who can help her when she suspects that her boss is part of an international conspiracy. As they work together secrets are uncovered and danger surrounds them. The chemistry is just as intense as it once was as is their connection.
This was a fast paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat whilst reading. There was plenty of heat, steam, suspense and danger and was a great addition to the series. The characters are well developed and engaging which I have come to expect from Ms. Blake.
A strong story will characters whose story you cannot help but become invested in. Seeing some familiar faces and the scenes at the club just added an additional layer to my enjoyment of The Man From Sanctum.
5 The Ultimate of Second Chances Stars!!
Deke and Maddie thought they were forever when they were younger, but it wasn’t meant to be because Deke was so different from Maddie and what he thought she was capable of without him so he made the ultimate sacrifice by leaving the love of his life so she could set the world on fire… but his love for her never ebbed!
It’s years later and Maddie now needs Deke in a way she never thought possible…to find the secrets her boss is hiding and maybe, just maybe they’ll get their second chance. Along the way, Ms. Blake keeps us on the edge of our seat not only with the mystery of their investigation but also as they explore the physical side of their relationship that started all those years ago but now they know what they were exploring was BDSM and a D/s relationship.
I loved how this book moved through their journey of finding what Maddie’s boss was hiding. I was shocked at some of their findings but also entranced with the way Ms. Blake builds this story, up and up and up as things are revealed that Maddie wasn’t expecting! But Deke, he’s going to protect her at all costs, even if it means not fulfilling the second chance they both truly desire!! This is a wonderful addition to this series and by far my favorite of the series. I’m not sure how she does it, but Ms. Blake gives us stories that are gripping, enthralling and sexy all at the same time! If you haven’t read this series, it’s a must read… you can thank me later!
The Man from Sanctum (Masters & Mercenaries: Reloaded #3) by Lexi Blake
4 stars
M/F Second chance romance
Triggers: Light BDSM, murder,
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Maddie is a woman who knows what she's worth. She has always been a book worm and loves learning. She's worked very hard to get where she is and when she figures out that something isn't quite right with her job, she knows there's only 1 person she can trust. Pulling up her big girl panties, she treks off to find the one person who can help her.
Deke is a great character. He's easy to like. While he wasn't the brightest in his younger years, it was nice to see that he's learned from his mistakes. Deke has always loved Maddie. After seeing her for 20 years, you get to see why nothing else ever worked. Maddie was there for him even when he didn't know she was there for him.
Second chances are rare and these two don't waste their time together. When Maddie and Deke head to the club, Maddie's eyes are opened and Deke's realization that it has always been a little like that for them is a revelation.
Can these two find their way back to each other and escape the sinister plan following Maddie around?
I can't wait for the next one !
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
I love this series and it doesn't matter what number book this is or what couple it is about, I have come to want to read each one and get lost in their world for a little while.
This was Deke and Maddie's story that started in the past which broke my heart because Deke broke up with her thinking he was doing what was best for her.
Now it is 17 years later and she is back in his life needing his help. But what she is asking could put both of them in danger, not to mention their hearts too. As they work together with Deke's team to figure out what Maddie's boss is up to, there is so much going on. The suspense and intrigue will keep you glued to the pages until you find out what happens and then you are left wanting more.
I always look forward to the next book from Lexi Blake, and now I need to know what happens next.
I've become quite a fan of suspense books. This was a nice read filled with intrigue, mystery, sexy and hot moments as well as swoony moments that will make you fall in love with Deke in an instant.
Maddie was such a strong female character. She was wicked smart and could hold her own in a man's world. She was fighting her reawakening feelings for Deke in order to protect her heart. Deke has come a long way since the last time they saw each other. He's found his footing in the BDSM world alongside his "new family". When she comes back into his life, he's determined more than ever to make her stay. Trying to take down the bad guy while figuring out how to work as a couple was not easy but when you've found your one there is nothing you'll let stand in your way the second time around.
Overall it was a great read and I'm looking forward to seeing this series continue especially now that we got a few new info where we are heading..
I loved this book! Lexi Blake has delivered another amazing story in her Masters and Mercenaries world. This book brings mystery, suspense, danger, twists and turns and of course all of the craziness that surrounds McKay Taggart. Deke and Maddie overcame a lot of hurt and pain from their past to find their HEA. These two were fantastic together and it was great to see them let down their walls and fight for a second chance. This fast paced book kept me guessing until the very end. I so did not see that ending coming!! I can't wait until the next book!!!!
This world I swear! It gets more intense & twisty with every book! This one made my conspiracy brain run wild with ideas about our current world. Scary to think this probably happens in real life. Also everything that Maddie works on is wayyyy over my head, like I only understood half of it. Which I love that Lexi always writes these amazing, intelligent & badass female characters. They match so well with the intelligent, sexy, badass male characters.
I love that these two finally got their second chance. They were so sweet together. Plus I’ve loved Deke since we met him so I was happy he finally got his happily ever after. Kyle Hawthorne I am so disappointed in you. I can’t even. There aren’t words. There are a lot of surprise bombs in this one, which shouldn’t have surprised me as much as these did. I am chomping at the bit for the next book now!
The Man from Sanctum by Lexi Blake is book Three in the Masters and Mercenaries: Reloaded Series. This is the story of Deke Murphy and Maddie Hall. I have read the previous books but did feel you could make it a standalone book if you wish to do so. This was a great second chance at love with a good does of mystery lined with their story. Deke and Maddie where in love in high school. He was the sports guy and she was the nerdy brainy girl. But then something happens and Deke ended things. Now almost 20 years later Maddie is in trouble and she thinks that Deke is the man to help her. Enjoyed this book.
An Action Packed Opposites Attract
In The Man From Sanctum, Lexi Blake gives her readers an action packed romance and more read. With Deke and Maddie's story, you get a little bit of everything thrown in.
Deke and Maddie were high school sweethearts until they weren't. Two kids with thier whole lives ahead of them, adult decisions had to be made and consequences bared, which kept Deke and Maddie apart for seventeen years. When they meet up again, Maddie needs help and Deke sees this as his redemption.
I liked Deke and Maddie separately, not sure the chemistry was there as a couple. We had to read too many times and in too many ways how smart Maddie was. That got old. I like that Deke was a master in his field and the team around him worked seamlessly. Deke was determined to help Maddie as well as keep her safe. This was his second chance in his mind and he didn't want to blow it.
The book is well written and I'll have to say, I liked the action more than the romance. This was my first read of the series, so I'm not sure if the "lifestyle" was present in the previous books, but I wasn't really into that part of the storyline and will admit to skimming a little. Along with Maddie and Deke, we have Dekes crew that added the humor to such a serious subject. The book reads well as a standalone.
This series is ridiculous, silly, formulaic, and absolutely addictive, and I mean that in the BEST possible way. I didn't even read the synopsis; I just clicked pre-order as soon as it became available, and a bitch wasn't disappointed. Lexi Blake always gives exactly what was supposed to have been given 3.5 outrageously proposerous stars
*Happy sigh*
As always, I loved this story. There were so many fun moments (male cleavage??? Ian's crisis???) and so many heartfelt ones.
I feel like this was the highest point of the rollercoaster and now we'll go down and down and so very fast! The twists at the end pretty much guarantee it.
Two books and one novella to go for this series!
I have never read a Lexi Blake book that I did not love. The female leads are always super intelligent and the men respect that. That's not to say that they are not sometimes intimidated it. Maddie and Deke were high school sweethearts who have been apart for a long time. Their love never really left and other relationships never worked because of it. When Maddie needs help, she seeks out Deke who brings in his team. There's plenty of suspense and intrigue. I love when a second chance romance is given time to bloom. I find the character of Boomer reminds me a bit of Ian. He sees everything and offers sage advice when not expected.
