It’s Justin and Emily’s wedding day, and Addison, Layla, and Olivia have flown to Melbourne for the much-anticipated event.
The wedding venue – a picturesque winery on the outskirts of Melbourne – promises a stress-free weekend of joyous memory-making. After a whirlwind European holiday, followed by a busy Christmas period in Getaway Bay, Addison is looking forward to a drama-free week.
She should have known better.
Celebration turns to devastation as one of the bride’s friends suffers an allergic reaction. The unfortunate young man is whisked off to hospital in critical condition, and Addison quickly realises his fate was no accident.
Away from home once again, Addison, Layla, and Olivia must enlist the help of the Beach House Murder Club from afar. Can they uncover the identity of the perpetrator before local police blame one of their own?
The Getaway Bay cozy mysteries have everything you love – suspense to keep you guessing, twists you don’t see coming, and characters you want to have a cup of tea with – plus an added dose of Aussie flavour.
Getaway Bay: Come for the murder, stay for the cake!
So nice to see Addison and her team back and on the case. This time it is a death at a wedding which requires their attention and their special brand of sleuthing.
I like the way this author moves her murder cases around so not everything happens in the group's small hometown of Getaway Bay. In An Ill-Fated Invitation they are attending Addison's son's wedding in Melbourne and the victim is a guest. When the police mistakenly arrest the bride it is obvious that Addison and her friends have to help them get it right.
This is an entertaining story with an interesting mystery. I managed to guess the murderer from one specific clue -if you notice it the result is obvious but if you do not see it the ending may come as a surprise! It is all very enjoyable either way. I hope to see Addison again soon, back in Getaway Bay doing something beginning with J.
Addison, her daughter Olivia and her sister Layla are in Melbourne for the wedding of her son Jason to Emily. The wedding is being held at a winery near Melbourne, owned by the family of one of Jason's friends. It's a beautiful day and all is going well when one of the guests collapses from an allergic reaction during the wedding breakfast.
As readers of the series will know, Addison has experience helping the police solve crimes in her hometown of Getaway Bay, so can't help investigating the circumstances around this one, especially when she thinks the police are barking up the wrong tree.
This was a fun cosy mystery, although it was a shame to see Jason and Emily's wedding day marred by such an unfortunate event. It was also good to see Addison and co in action away from home, although I look forward to seeing them back in Getaway Bay for the next mystery.
At a beautiful vineyard on the outskirts of Melbourne, Addison was preparing for her son Justin’s wedding to his beloved bride Emily. She was excited at the upcoming nuptials, with her daughter Olivia and their aunt Layla also on the guest list. In the marquee after the ceremony, the tables were set out, the friends and family chatting and enjoying themselves immensely. When the meals were served and it was almost time for speeches, the unexpected occurred – a young man at one of the tables began choking. He was suffering anaphylactic shock and was rushed off to the hospital in an ambulance in a critical condition.
With Addison so far from her home in Getaway Bay in Queensland, she knew the local police wouldn’t listen to her. But she had to do something because if what the police believed came to pass, it would be shattering to the family. Could Addison and her friends solve this latest mystery?
An Ill-Fated Invitation is the 9th in the Getaway Bay series by Aussie author Grace York (aka Catherine Lee) and I loved it! Such fun, entertaining mysteries, with the delectable covers as we make our way through the alphabet. I wonder what the title will be for “J”. Addison is smart, methodical and focused – determined to find the answers, and her recipes are delicious as well! Highly recommended.
An Ill-Fated Invitation is book nine in the Getaway series by Grace York. Addison had flown to Melbourne for her son's wedding with Layla and Olivia and was looking forward to visiting the wedding venue, a winery on the outskirts of Melbourne. However, one of the bride's friends suffered an allergic reaction. Addison believes it was not an accident, and with the help of the Beach House Murder Club, Layla and her daughter Olivia start to investigate. The readers of An Ill-Fated Invitation will continue to follow Addison, Layla and Olivia to discover what happens.
An Ill-Fated Invitation is another fantastic Cozy Mystery by Grace York and an excellent addition to the Getaway Series. I engaged with the story and characters from the first page. I love Grace York's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine with each other throughout this book. An Ill-Fated Invitation is well-written and researched by Grace York. I like Grace York's description of the settings of An Ill-Fated Invitation which complemented the book's plot.
The readers of An Ill-Fated Invitation will learn about running a winery and wedding venue. Also, the readers of An Ill-Fated Invitation will learn about the work that goes into producing Apps for business.
Cozy mystery (there's some cooking, though no actual recipe!) which is slightly more convincing than the usual. The mystery of who is the murderer is well-disguised - though I think I got to the solution before the 'reveal'.
Fun, though I'm not likely to go back and read the earlier books in this series (that's down to me, not the book!)
