A missing mummy. A drug cartel. An ex-US Army Ranger. And a woman who's at odds with the world. It's Relentless...

There's no hiding the fact that Julia Collins has issues. She's shy to the point of trying to become invisible. She has OCD tendencies--breaking out in hives if she loses control of her environment. She finds it hard to talk to intimidating men, or more accurately, to any men. A fact that makes working as the office manager for Benson Security particularly difficult--the company is made up almost entirely of huge, intimidating,ex-military men. But none of the men affect her the way Joe Barone does. The ex-marine is charming, confident, heroic and so sexy it hurts to look at him. Everything about Joe intimidates Julia. And that's why, when he declares his interest in her,she does the only sensible thing--she hides.

There's a limit to how long Joe Barone is going to tolerate Julia hiding. So what if she has a few issues? They don't detract from her many attributes. She's gorgeous, smart, generous and kind. Which guy wouldn't want a woman like that by his side? So when her grandmother gets arrested in South America, Joe sees a perfect opportunity to show Julia how good they'd be together. Julia needs someone to accompany her to Peru, someone who speaks Spanish and who doesn't crumble in the face of authority. Julia needs Joe.

But when they get to Lima, they discover things are much worse than they were led to believe. With danger at every turn and lives on the line, Julia is forced to get past her issues and trust in Joe--her life depends on it.

Janet grew up in Scotland but now lives in New Zealand. Among other things, she’s been an artist, a teacher, a security guard at a castle, a magazine editor, and a cleaner in a drop in center for drug addicts (NOT the best job!). When she isn’t living in her head and writing about the people she finds there, she raises two kids, one husband, and several random animals. She survives on chocolate and caffeine.

Another fun, steamy, suspense, action filled read by one of my favorite authors.
Julia suffers from hypersensitivity, OCD and a severe case of shyness. It’s a cocktail that has kept her from developing relationships. Joe, a hero with the perfect mixture of possessive and obsessive tendencies, is drawn to her and refuses to accept that she is broken. He is taking baby steps with her. The trip to rescue her grandmother from a Peruvian jail gives him the opportunity to pursue her with such steps.

Relentless is a fast paced read with lots of fun smart banter and plenty of secondary characters that add to the charm of the story. A little twist that wasn’t much of a surprise and some angst as the main characters struggle to find their footing with each other. It’s a perfect read to just sit back and relax without ever being boring.

Digging through my library,i came across the Benson Security series.
I got a couple for free at the time, and forgot i had them…..until now.
It’s not my usual genre, but i felt like something light, and this one seemed to fit the bill.
Once i started,i knew if i didn’t take things too seriously, this one could be a lot of fun.
Because, let’s face it,some technical details weren’t what they were supposed to be.
But the heroine,Julia, and her grandmother Patricia were…..unique…and i loved them both!
Joe,the hero, was a man that knew what he wanted, and didn’t take himself too seriously, and i adored how he was with Julia!

Julia had OCD,was painfully shy,and 100% convinced that Joe was not good for her health.
He made her want things she knew she couldn’t have because of everything she knew was wrong with her.
He didn’t agree, but he was a patient man,and with his goal firmly in sight, namely a happy after with his girl,he was prepared to give her the time she needed.
At the same time,he gave her gentle nudges here and there, and was there for her when she needed him.
Like when her grandmother got arrested in Lima for stealing a mummy…..
The chaos that followed was most entertaining and the rollercoaster ride that ensued held my attention throughout.
I held my breath when things got bad,i laughed when Julia,Patricia and Elle kept the men on their toes, and i swooned when Joe gave Julia exactly what she needed….every time.

As i said, don’t take this one too seriously, and you can have a lot of fun with it.
I’m off, checking the other stories in the series….

I liked this suspenseful romance. Did I have to suspend disbelief at the circumstances they found themselves in? Yes, but it made for a fun ride. Did I want the heroine to stop pushing the hero away? Definitely, but given the character, it also made sense. Did I wish the hero had more background? Also yes, but the personality/character traits that were there were right up my alley. Julia (h) works for a British security company and has taken personal leave to go rescue her grandmother and grandmother's BFF in Peru. Julia and Joe (H) work together and had a kiss (I assume in the prior book but I didn't read it and this does one standalone). Joe's pursuing her but Julia has many reservations about a potential relationship. In Peru, the situation rapidly spins out of control and they're facing down a cartel, with all the danger and chaos you can imagine. The attraction/Joe's pursuit also comes to a head. Written in third person, multi-POV of h, H, and their boss (who's the MMC of the next book). No ow/om drama and neither are virgins (the only history given is that h isn't a virgin but isn't very experienced).

I thought Julia made for an intriguing lead. She has hypersensitivity, OCD tendencies, and is extremely shy. But, she's also brilliant, observant, and braver than she gives herself credit for. She's the odd duck in her family so combined with her behavioral/personality traits she sees as faults, Julia doesn't understand why Joe would be attracted to her and views any potential between them as doomed. I felt sympathetic for her struggles, esp in adapting to what happens to them in the plot of the book. However, Joe is a former Marine, he's possessive, understanding, patient, and he's going to win Julia over, no matter how long it takes. They have great chemistry and tension, partially because Julia's constantly pushing back and once the steam does happen (slow burn), it's well done and I thought added to their emotional connection because Julia trusted Joe. I never got frustrated with Julia, but I think other readers might given the perception of weaknesses in her character and all the pushing away.

Plot-wise, there's a grandmother in prison, a missing BFF, a missing mummy that might lead to an Incan treasure, a cartel as an enemy, and all the danger. Joe and Julia do get back-up to help them, but there's a lot of action and violence along the way, a lot. There was also plenty of humor from the side characters and occasionally banter between Joe and Julia. Julia's grandmother was a handful and their team of co-workers who come in to assist all had strong personalities. Secondhand embarrassment was also a theme in this book, Julia ended up in several embarrassing situations that made me laugh sometimes, but also cringe. One in particular was a bit hard to read picturing. Their group does also poke their heads into the blossoming relationship between Joe and Julia, not usually in helpful ways.

The good guys do triumph and the leads do get their HFN/HEA (once Julia accepts all the love, I felt assured they'd stay together forever). The epilogue is only four months into the future so I did want a bit more showing their day to day, but it was a cute epilogue and it had some great humor in it with a scene involving Julia's chaotic family. There was also a sneak peek at the next book, which involves their boss, Callum, who is missing part of his legs and in a bad mental place following what happened in this book, because of the limitations he had at times triggering him. Even though I enjoyed this book, I wouldn't recommend it for all of my friends because of some of the parts I think would be frustrating for others, but I liked this author's writing style and it made for a great afternoon read so I could see myself checking out more of her work.

The two main characters were promising, for a suspense romance. Yet, they bored me more and more with each chapter. Without a deeper dig into Julia's issues, and without knowing Joe more (e.g. his past, or something to make him more complex or interesting) - their love story was like watching a predictable ping pong match.

Moreover, the mystery/adventure part was too much unbelievable. I really don't expect from chick-lit suspense novel that it would be serious, and fully real. But there are boundaries, and in my book Janet Elizabeth Henderson crossed them too many times. I know little about how "para-military organizations" work but I am sure not how it was shown. And don't even get me started about "genius computer scientist/hacker". It was a pop-culture version of 90-ties. Please, writers, learn a bit and don't spread myths.

I like the author's humor, but there has to be something more than that and a few fight and sex scenes. I skipped and skimmed many pages. So far, the worst by Henderson I have read [1.5 stars].

It was interesting

The story itself with Patricia was really interesting and I would have loved to learn more but the Julia and joe story line didn’t do it for me as I hoped.

I had my doubts! I truly had my doubts that a book with Julia as the main female lead in a book would be good. Boy was I wrong! If you've read all the books leading up to this new spin off set you'll understand why. Julia has severe social anxiety, shy to a fault ( she hides in closets, behind plants under tables). But all is explained and you understand Julia a lot better. Joe oh my holy hotness determined possessive man! He sees the real Julia and does not take no for an answer when she's to scared to give them a chance! Oh and during all this you have a kidnapping of Alice and of a mummy, drug cartel involvement, secret "ghost" black ops that join in to help(courtesy of Lake of course) throw in the rest of the new Benson security team and this is one fantastical story! Read all of Ms. Henderson's books, especially The Invertary series. You'll fall in love with these quirky, hilarious, sometimes insane characters and wish you lived there so your daily life could be one adventure after another!

Another great addition to the new series. There's a good sense of action mixed in with the humor and romance. The characters are great. We've seen Joe before and are getting a little more of his story. And Henderson does a great job with Julia - the bits about her OCD are realistic (she actually writes the compulsion part of it), and Julia's other quirks are well developed. Although we don't get to see Dmitri and Megan in this one, we do get the other members of the team. Can't wait to see who gets their story next!

3.5

This book started out great, and I even laughed a few times. Once the action started, I didn't care for the stupid mistakes (phone not on silent), lack of common sense/professionalism (civilians trying to act like soldiers), ott reactions (finger, death of betrayer), and the h continued denial of the H even after he's professed his undying love. Yes, I know that some of those elements are supposed to be a part of the humor. It just doesn't work for me when someone can't figure out how to turn the safety off, let alone cover up their bright blue hair when armed bad guys are chasing after you. That's not funny. That's just plain stupid.

The sexism "jokes" got old really fast. They made the grandma super annoying for the first half of the book, then the tech guru took over for the rest. How many times did she have to ask for a gun before she would remember that she didn't know how to use one? It was enough that I wanted to shoot myself. I'm so tired of authors having the female characters always trying to compete/take over the male characters roles/professions. If she wanted to be a soldier then she should just go enlist. I don't want to read about the "unfairness" of it all. Sadly, yet another book where the female characters are insane/unreasonable while the male characters just try to endure and get the job done. I don't think that I have ever read about male characters trying to be/do what they aren't/can't do. There's the real tragedy for feminism. It's okay to stay in your own lane and own it.

4.5 Stars. This is a well-written action packed book with some romance. The leading lady isn’t the typical heroine. Julie has OCD and is hypersensitive to sounds, lights, etc. So being part of a team to rescue her grandmother’s best friend from cartel boss in South America is really pushing her limits. Add in her sexy co-worker, Joe, and things getting really interesting.
Joe is a great guy. He loves Julie just as she is. He gets her and accepts all her idiosyncrasies. The supporting cast enhances the story, as I got a kick out of Ryan and Gran. Callum is certainly a man at a crossroad in his life.
This book peaked my interest in learning more about Peru and Bolivia. Until I read this book I did know La Paz, Bolivia is the highest capital city in the world.
I am definitely going to read more about the Benson Security gang and their adventures.

An author loses me when they bring in their own personal political thoughts into their story. A couple potshots with an obvious political agenda left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Not to mention Joe is way too pushy, Julia has too many emotional issues to overcome and her grandmother is flat out obnoxious. I couldn't even finish this one.

A fun read

Love this author who never disappoints. Plenty of action, crazy and loveable characters, great dialogue and a hero with a heart - what else can we ask for? Maybe a heroine with some weird and wonderful behaviours and a South American setting? And let’s not forget some hot sex thrown in by a writer who keeps the romance strong.
Very good entertainment.

WoW

I don’t even know what to say about this awesomesauce! Julie’s “quirks” along with Joe’s own specialness that is super sexy. Mummies, treasure, cartels, explosions...of the bedroom variety and the fireball boom kind...make this just a great 2nd book to an awesome series.

This is my second Janet Elizabeth Henderson book I've read in the Benson Security series.  On a book tour last month, I loved reading Rich, book 5, so much that I am going back to read the beginning of the series.  Let me just say I was not disappointed.  Ms. Henderson's characters are so entertaining and fun and she is a genius when it comes to putting romance, suspense, and comedy all together in captivating stories.

Julia is great at solving puzzles and that's why she works at Benson Security. However, she is extremely shy, has hypersensitivity, and OCD. Needless to say when her Gran Patricia ends up in jail in Lima, Peru for stealing a mummy with her now missing friend Alice, Julia is out of her comfort zone and is at a loss of what to do. However, after giving her very attractive, pushy, and capable co-worker and ex-Army Ranger Joe Barone the slip, he finds her and has put everything in motion to get her Gran out of jail.  Julia doesn't do relationships because the men end up dumping her and breaking her heart because of her unusual behavior. So she is constantly telling the very determined and playful Joe to leave her be. Can she convince this intense and dangerous "coiled tiger" that she is not worth the headache? Because she is terrified he is pursuing her.

You see, Joe is very possessive and obsessive when he wants something.  You may even say relentless. And he wants Julia.  But he will give her time to adjust to his presence and to feel comfortable with him. He has studied her for some time and he is fine with her quirkiness, her fears, and her wonderful mind. He is there to protect her from the dangerous man who has kidnapped Alice and who is threatening to kill her Gran for the location of the secret treasure that Gran has discovered. But will he be able to keep them all safe and convince Julia she is worth fighting for?

Julia and Joe have a fascinating dynamic between them. She is so unsure of herself, but with Joe's guidance and encouragement she starts to come out of her shell. I can't imagine the anxiousness she encounters from day to day, but Julia is a trouper and it's amazing how she picks up on Joe's energy when faced with adversity.  And Joe is a wonderfully patient man who is proud of her accomplishments and who is a fierce protector as witnessed with his warnings to his grumpy boss Callum and even to her Gran for shouting at her. Not to mention giving a well deserved right cross to his coworker Ryan who doesn't know when to shut up. Speaking of Ryan, may I say that one can really count on him for a good laugh in a tense situation. His comments are hilarious. Elle is another character I really enjoy with her wonderful positivity and quirky sense of humor.

On that note and in Elle's words, "Holy hotcakes, Batman" this is another fantastic romantic and thrilling ride with plenty of laughter and colorful characters.  Ms. Henderson knows how to catch a reader off guard with her many fabulous and LOL moments that had me in stitches.  If you love to laugh, swoon, and travel to thrilling places, give this book a try. You won't be disappointed.  On to the next book in the series.

Thank you to Ms. Henderson for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Book 2 in Benson security:

I've been knowing Joe since Invertary series where he appears, also Julia.
They are such a pair.

Julia is not our normal heroine, that's why I think I love a lot Janet E.H books, their heros and heroines are fantastic, unique, and quirky. Very quirky.
She can be found in closets, under desk, behind trees or plants... she is definitely something. I understand her hipersensivity and also does it JOE.

Joe is the perfect hero to me, he understand her, he LOVES her, he is always there for her. He takes baby steps around Julia. He protect- he attack- and he is amazing for her.
They are very cute together 10/10

About the book:
In book 1 we read as they build the team, here you can see as they are much more strong. And the theme is totally different, while in the first one it handle hard issues here we can read an Indiana Jones set up.

Overall: LOVELY, FUN AND LOVE action book!

I love Joe! We meet Joe and Julia in the Invertary series and get to know them better in book one of the Benson Security books. This is their love story, with a good dose of action, adventure, and humor, too. Joe decided almost immediately upon meeting Julia that she was his ONE, but Julia is extremely shy and introverted and doesn't see why he would be interested in her. Joe is so patient, loving, and protective of Julia that he made me fall in love with him, too. I highly recommend this book! While it can be a standalone, you would have a greater enjoyment of their story if you read the Invertary series first (all excellent books, too!) And book one in Benson security.

Felt like a cross between Indiana Jones and... not sure. It's fun and funny, but deadly serious. I enjoyed getting to know Julia more, and Joe's patient reassurance that his feelings for her are real. I found out what Callum did - or blamed himself for in Rage.

Again, some tough subject matter and a warning of some extreme violence. I really wanted to be done with the book, mostly because I wanted to be away from the Bad Guys. Not sure if I'll put Peru on my list of places to visit...

Julia has to get get her grandma out of jail. She was suppose to take Joe a Benson Opts agent with her, but she gave him the slip. Julia's one big problem is Joe thinks they will be perfect together. Funny, Hot, and Heartwarming

This woman isn't capable of writing a bad book. I've lived every book I read more than the previous one- starting way back with Kristi and Lake. I cannot wait for the rest of this series!!!! I hope Elle and David reconnect, that Callum and Rachel clash and love, and that Ryan and Katrina pair off. I love the old people she adds in, the personality clashes, the character traits and motivations...I LOVE IT ALL!!!! I hope you don't keep me waiting long for the next one, Janet!

Joe and Julia become embroiled in a mummy snatching adventure and a cartel after treasure when they go to get Julia's grandmother out of jail.

Julia is brave, but her OCD and shyness make it hard for her to feel confident enough to be with Joe. But he sees under all that, and recognizes her skill in strategizing and planning.

He doesn't give up, and as they work with her grandmother to save the grandmother's friend and recover a mummy, Julia gradually accepts that Joe won't leave her because of her issues.

Great plot, fun adventure. Love Janet Elizabeth Henderson.

Another enjoyable romantic suspense from JEH. This one follows painfully shy and OCD office manager Julia and security specialist Joe to Peru to rescue her grandma from jail, hunt for treasure, dodge a cartel and save a hostage. I loved how patient Joe was with Julia and how he really knows her and appreciates her, foibles and all. And while I would normally have been fed up with a h that vaciliates as much as Julia, it didnt annoy me at all because Julia was a sympathetic character and I understood and felt her struggles with her.

Benson Boys Rock

The action, the excitement and the humour rolled into one new exciting series. Fast paced action, strong characters and enough laughs to alleviate the growing tension.
Love Julia. Can relate to this awkward introvert who'd rather hide behind plants than face coworkers.
And Joe. Alpha male, you're mine mentality - a feminist I'm not. Great characters who get their own book to tell the story of their budding romance.
Great work.

This is clearly Part Of A Series. While I can’t tell you who the couple were in book one, I *can* tell you there are story arcs, character development, and the origin story of this group that all carry over from book one. I wasn’t lost reading this, but it was evident that I was missing something. And that kept me from completely engaging/connecting. This was funny and heartfelt and action packed. And I wish I had known that I would need to read the first one to fully enjoy it.

Relentless

I feel in love with this series. It makes me laugh with the bantering in which the characters being across the pages. Making the novel more personable. Janet, draws the reader into this novel with a softer side of a romantic interlude. Yet, at the same time having a great storyline of mummies, with a hit of treasure in the wings. Fast read and worthy pick up.

DNF - I have really enjoyed the other books that I have read by this author but for some reason I just could not connect with this one and and I have skipped pages and scanned pages to a point that I have no clue what is going on. SO better to stop now and move on. Perhaps this was not the right time for me to read this one.

Super sweet and fun read. If you hate heroines who constantly denies the hero, then this book is not for you. But Joe was so perfect I could overlook that and I understood where Julia was coming from. So, two thumbs up from me ;)

Another good, page-turning story - although with some nasty violence involving a S. American cartel - from JEH. The characters zip between cities in Peru and Bolivia, some dead bodies are left behind. All the while Joe is super patient, slowly drawing Julia from her shell. He is very protective, yet not smothering. No LOL scenes, but Ryan provides some comic relief.

My first book by this author and definitely not the last one. I can honestly say I fell in love with those characters.

It was funny, sweet, full of action and suspense. My only complain is that it wasn’t long enough and I wanted more.

Joe and Julia are the best together and I want more of them.

There are not enough stars available for this book !
