Logan Moore is a leader without a pack...

And after the rejection he faced from his last pack, he’s not sure he wants one. But when a mysterious benefactor he nicknames The Oracle offers Logan the chance to use his military expertise to lead a group of misfit shifters to protect the creatures of the magical realm, Logan’s wolf won’t allow him to say no.

Bailey Cairn is a man without a protector...

And for the entirety of his very human life, he hasn’t needed one. But when his friend is attacked at a bar, sweet, caretaker Bailey is drawn into a world he hadn’t known existed. A world full of secrets, and magic. A world full of danger… and gorgeous, protective Logan.

But if Bailey and Logan want to break the chains of the past, they'll have to learn to trust each other and themselves, and start to believe in things that are bigger than they are...

That magic exists.

That packs are about more than blood ties.

That sometimes true love is a matter of fate.

And that heroes aren’t made…they’re Chosen.

I read this first book in the new series around 3 weeks ago and it was fun, but not quite as memorable as the "Chosen One" or "Hellhound" stories.

What I do remember vividly, though, is how much I enjoyed that all of Bailey's human friends eventually got incorporated into Logan's Misfit Pack of Supernatural Creatures.

There were definitely some crossover characters, but for the most part, this one felt like a complete standalone read. Even if toddler Gus (and his overwhelming love of snacks) did make a brief on-page appearance. 😉

I am dying to find out the secret identity of the mysterious Oracle character, so I'll for sure continue the series.

4 stars.

Logan and Bailey kick start the latest Chosen Universe series in style

Loved this latest instalment from Macy Blake's Chosen Universe.

It's got great pacing, two interesting and attractive main characters and a bunch of brilliant secondaries that I'm dying to find out more about too.

The plot was a bit darker than in some of the earlier series entries and was pretty creepy at times.

I had zero clue who the bad guy was either, right up until the end I was just as clueless as Logan and his team.

Speaking of, they're a fabulous mix of snark and support and I really enjoyed seeing them building themselves into a pack without realising.

The fated mates part of the story totally worked for me, it's not quite instalove, Bailey takes a while to realise Logan's utterly serious about him.

Smexy times are hot and full of feels.

It was also great to get a few cameos from the wider universe especially the wee red panda 😍

Gideon is up next and that's shaping up to be a second chance enemies to lovers, one of my absolute favourite tropes!

It's a good start of a new series from The Chosen One universe. You could even call it a stand-alone to some degree but of course for details or to enjoy the cameo of some Chosen One characters it is better to know the pervious series.

As so often with the first book of a new series, it's more about introducing the new characters, create a pack, find a mate and keep everything going by adding a mystery. All that is done with that certain Macy Blake playfulness.

But why writing a review if Bronwyn Heeley said it all better than I could?

Reread/Relisten: April 2023

New rating of a 3.5 haha

I think this time around i enjoyed the relationship and characters more than i did first time i read it.

now on to book 2. I am rereading these because Scout, just came out on audio the other day.

3 stars: July 2022

I read this because I wanted an audiobook I haven’t listened too, but I have only read the “Chosen One” series, and I didn’t even finish that because I started to not like some of the main characters.

This can be read on its own but it does have a cameo from some characters from “Sweet Nothings”, Scout who is from there, but also the whole pack. I kinda remember them but not so much haha

I don’t know if felt like there was something missing from this book, but I did enjoy Baileys character. I think maybe having some more backstory on the characters would have made me enjoy it more. Like we saw Baileys parents once but ehh felt like they popped in and then left.

Also Randy was creepy.

I am debating on continuing the series, I see that people enjoy book two more than this, but still.. not sure.

I’m just going to rip the band-aid off.

I didn’t love this. There were times I didn’t even like it. If it weren’t for the end this could have easily ended up on my 2★'s = it was ok shelf. That end for sure saved it though.

I really hope this is just a blip and the next book will be a better fit for me. Although, now that I think about it, I didn't really love the last book in this Universe either...

Overall though, I’m a pretty big fan of the entire Chosen Universe. I look forward to each release and love to see where the continuing storyline takes us next and who it is that takes us there. I vaguely recall reading a teaser for this new series in the Chosen Universe, I’m not absolutely sure where I read that, but I do remember something that set this up so I’ve been waiting.

So, the whole Oracle thing, the various different shifters helping with all the messed up magic going on with doors to the different realms closed was pretty cool. Add into that a very Alpha wolf as their leader and I was into it.

But the rest? The humans? Nah.

This felt very juvenile to me. I don’t know how else to explain it. The characters seemed immature and crude. The humor made me a little uncomfortable and I wonder if people really talk to each other the way this group of “friends” did.

It started right in the beginning. I didn’t understand why Bailey thought these people weren’t his friends. I guess I just didn’t get where he was coming from with that whole woe is me mentality. But, I thought, ok, he’ll move on from these kids and find his “home” and I was ok with that. Honestly, I kind of hoped that was how it would go and that was the end of those friends. But, that’s not how it went and I feel like a horrible person but I didn’t really like the crew.

I’m happy for Bailey though, I mean, I didn’t really want him to be friendless and sad, I just didn’t necessarily like the friends.

This is probably because of the humor. As I mentioned, it was pretty crude and made me feel uncomfortable and OLD. Add to that the seriousness of the crimes occurring in the story, rape guys, and it just didn’t seem right. If anything, the book should have been more subdued and a little more serious.

UGH.

I also struggled a little with where Logan was coming from. What happened to him with this Pack when he was a kid was bad. I get that. I don’t get how it changed who he was and made him go against what was natural to him though. Where were his parents in this?

The romance was ok. I normally dig the love at first sight thing with mates but neither of them really realized it was a love at first sight kind of thing so that kind of makes it not, right? I don’t know.

I did really enjoy, I don’t know, the last 20% or so though. The showdown, that felt like the other books in the story and that was about the only time I felt like I was enjoying my read. Up until then it just was a struggle for me to get through.

It's a bummer but with series/universes that span this many books it is bound to happen. I am still looking forward to what is next and only hope I enjoy it more than I did this one.

This is definitely not a standalone and should be read in the order the Author suggests on her website, Chosen Universe Reading Order, or here on Goodreads, Chosen Universe Series, but definitely use one of these and read in order. There is also a mention/crossover in The Prince and His Bedeviled Bodyguard which is also a must read and the book that made me discover this Universe to begin with. So yeah, do yourself a favor and read in order!

I have so many thoughts and questions running through my head. I feel like I need to reread the entire combined series to see if I missed some hints and clues. I’ll admit it doesn’t take much to make me read it again 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’ll rate and maybe even attempt a review later.

re-read 04/25/2022 I’ve re-read most of the original books (I’m at the end of book 5 of The Chosen One series). I still have questions. I enjoyed this more this time than I did the first time, but… It still doesn’t hold a candle to any of The Chosen One or Hellhound Champion books. I figure my expectations are too high. I shall go on.

Join me once again in Macy Blake’s Chosen One Universe! The Chosen Champions series is another spin off within this extensive and complex world. And it can be read as a standalone. Yes, you read that right. Blake manages to get all the pertinent information into this book. I will say with complete honesty that having read all the books up to here gives the story extra nuance and perhaps some extra emotion, especially with one particular secondary character. But that being said, I really believe you could start here and not feel lost. (But you’d probably want to go back and catch up.)

In all other ways, this book is classic Blake. We have two main characters who fit together well and complement each other; a found family of diverse, unique, and interesting characters; and a mystery plaguing the MCs that is life threatening. Both Logan and Bailey are well drawn.

Read Kris’ review in its entirety here.

This is the first book in a new series by Macy Blake and I loved it. Logan and Bailey are incredible. I loved how easily Bailey and his friends were incorporated into Logan’s pack. The story was full of excitement, but also the budding love between Bailey and Logan. It’s a great book and I highly recommend it.

Audiobook review

This is still my favorite out of all of them, even after the re read of the whole series. I have learned a lot since I first read this book, like following the reading order as per Macy's website. (hint hint)

Logan and Bailey were even better in audio. As is the entire mixed up pack. I love Michael Dean's narration. He has a way of making things feel even more emotional. When Bails was attacked the first time, my heart hurt.

This spin off of the series is about hunting down the others who are doing bad, but not getting rid of them ala the hellhounds. There is less lone wolf (snort) and more teamwork with these champions.

They also have an oracle, which is like the all knowing power who pays for everything and put this group of champions together. I really have not figured out who it is, but I hope they get an HEA of their own when this is over.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh my...

I think out of the million books of the chosen universe this may have been my favorite. I loved both mcs and their whole hybrid pack. I laughed at parts, sniffled at others, and got upset about what happened with Bails.

Not gonna lie, when it was revealed who Scout really was I squealed.

The only wish I have is some sort of summary of the universe at the beginning cause I'm beginning to forget who is who.

No. Nuh-uh. ABSOLUTELY NOT. This audiobook...I cringed as soon as I started listening to this. WTF is the voice acting on this? It sounds like a 1950s US military propaganda announcement. Also, the writing is strange. I'm out.

Good Start to the series

Set in the Chosen universe, this was a good beginning to this spin-off series

I thought it was pretty sweet despite all the bad things happening. Logan wasn't as grumpy as I'd expected (a good thing) and Bailey was a sweetheart.

I wish the ending would've been handled better, especially with how the baddie was dealt with. I needed some retribution or something for their actions but..it didn't happen.

Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it and will definitely be reading Gideon's book in the future.

The best mismatch shifter story I’ve read so far. There are some guest appearances from previous series, but that in no way effect this story. We are brought into the same world as other series but the author did a great job in explaining things. This story is humans meet shifter story, where the shifters are protecting the human world. I loved both characters and the journey they had getting to their love. I do wish there was a slightly bigger reaction when the humans find out about the magical world. I mean there was a dimension door they went through and no one freaked. The writing was good the smexy was hawt, I do wish there were some wolf shifter characteristics though. I missed the claim bite and even some knotting. Great story I can’t wait to see who Gideon falls for.

This is very much an ensemble book. Logan is the reluctant alpha of a ragtag group of paranormal who work for a mysterious Oracle helping police out of control paranormals. When sent to a bar the find Bailey and his theater friends group where one girl appears to have been drugged. Pretty soon Logan is looped into finding a paranormal rapist while guarding oblivious human Bailey and friends.

I enjoyed Bailey and Logan's interactions. They were light and bantery without being too much. I was also concerned that the human friends would fall into the annoying category but they didn't and turned out Ashley was a great friend for Bailey.

I also like that the humans saved the day at the end. Looking forward to the next story.

This has some distinct similarities with Sam/Vaughn or the Hellhound series in the pairing and pack building, and I am here for it!

However, it is very much it's own story and not just a repeat. So for me, it was really great to read some of the same aspects that I loved, but in a new story.

I didn't think any story could top Sam/Vaughn and Drew/Shaq for me, but this is a strong contender. Loved Scout and his 'plot-twist', loved Aleron, and the human pack members that all make up a colorful palette of personalites.

2.5 actually. I usually love Macy but her books are getting very predictable. The chosen one series is so amazing, you have everything, a lot of twists, a lot of turns, you get your romance with a great story... In this one (and the last hellhound book) you only get romance, I mean, things happen but the main focus is on romance e sexy times. Macy got such a good imagination, pls don't turn your books in a brainless, repetitive mess!

This is pretty classically a human being a paranormal mate romance, setting up the group we’re going to be following through the series and all the characters, plus an underlining mystery plot that wrapped the whole thing up.

Trigger warning for sexual assault/rape, on and off page

I’m up to a point in the universe that I’m not sure I can really be all that subjective. Did I like it because I liked the book, or because it’s a part of the universe, and the little cameo and the little pop up from the past that is so great. However, it wasn’t my fav of the series, it was still a great read and an amazing start to a new series and I’m looking forward to seeing where it’s going.

End note: coming from someone who hasn’t read the Hellhound Champions, I do believe you can read this series without reading any of the other series in this world. The thing is, you won’t really understand HOW we got here, so if you’ve not read anything in this world here are the books, I think you need to have read before going into this story:

Sweet Nothings
All kidding Aside & Stop Kidding Around
Hell Breaks Loose.

However, read them first, you might not understand who a few characters are and there’s a nice little surprise but all in all I don’t think you need to read it to get the story as it is, you might just be a little lost on the world.

More champions. So happy there’s more. The gods and goddesses are gone and the oracle has a team of champions in play. Logan and Bailey were cute, but the building of the pack was my favourite part. I liked how mothering Bailey was and how everyone fit together smoothly. I thought Randy and Norman were working together. I loved how Aleron just wants to spend money. Looking forward to Gideon’s story. Nice to see Gus and a few of the others again.

Soup

I hope I never have to see the end to this enchanting and magical universe. The characters, the connections, the all-encompassing love, it fills my heart with joy and contentment each time I read. I loved meeting Logan and his highly talented but mysterious team and when you add in the ever efficient and dynamic powerhouse that is Bailey, I’m all in. “Something changed when I met you. I knew you were meant to be mine. I feel right when I’m with you. I’m a better man.” I adore these two together and thought the mystery was really well-done as it stumped me. Add in some special surprises, an amazing found family and it combines to one truly fantastic world that I can’t wait to return to and need more of.

The Chosen Oracle: Wolves, and humans, and supes, oh my!

They don’t mix well with danger, do they Alpha? You’re not in Kansas any more, Bails.

A four star story in a five star world. Rounded up for Scout, and Heather’s late crush.

I want something easy to read (but still involves paranormal element) and this delivers. Sure, everything happens kind of quickly (and how come Logan doesn't realize that Bailey is his mate? isn't that the common deal in this kind of world?) but I like all the characters enough; especially since Bailey has his own pack of friends who fit perfectly with Logan's.

And the book manage to make me curious about Gideon (the vampire) and Taj (the incubus) because there's a BIG story between them.

The whole mystery about the villain is rather lame though; I mean, these AMAZING group of paranormal elites who supposed to be the Chosen Champions of the human realm cannot even find a smidge of clue about who the villain is. AND, there's no explanation about the motivation, about how the villain manage to do everything, and about managed to discover the villain's identity even before Logan's team.

BAH!

I really enjoyed this! I liked that Logan took his time (relatively) with Bailey. It was funny with a touch of danger and action. While you don’t have to read the previous series first, I do recommend it so you know who the side characters are.

The good
+ The way Bailey took care of his friends
+ How Logan was with Bailey. No over-the-top alpha bullshit, just the right amount of alpha bullshit
+ Logan displaying just the right amount of alpha possessiveness, but not too much (nothing against Bailey's friends for example)
+ Found family / found pack
+ Bailey realizing Logan is just a huffy puppy
+ The way Bailey figured out the truth and how there was no drawn out drama around it
+
+ The rational way Bailey viewed everything and how he could understand other people's mindsets about their actions
+ Bailey and his friends learning how to fight and taking initiative in teaching others how to defend themselves instead of doing dumb things and making it even easier for the bad guy
+

The neutral
o I have not read all of the book in this universe, only some. I think the book was properly understandable for people with no prior knowledge, but a little bit more information every now and then would have helped

The bad
- Everything in the case after catching the bad guy sucked. I think the ending was extremely unsatisfying
-

I think it's a good book and I would definitely recommend it. I hope we get some answers about the bad guy in the next book.

I loved the world Blake has created, but …Gasp! The first book in this new series is little slow until around 60% mark.

Bailey is a human. He is aces at taking care of those loves. His life changes when he crosses paths with Logan and his team.

Logan is an alpha who thinks he doesn’t need or deserve a pack. (The reader finds out the whys toward the end of the book.) Logan and his team work for the oracle an unknown wealthy being stopping magical creatures who misuse their powers.

The first book lays the groundwork. We meet the team and get to know Bailey’s friends. The team is tracking an evil being preying on college kids. The Macy Blake style finally comes out to play and the action picks up. Other characters from past books show up, and Bailey and his friends discover that wolf shifters, griffins, and dragons exist.

Finally, Logan realizes he has a pack. It’s not the traditional wolf pack, but everyone needs a dragon in the family. Now that the introductions have been made, I look forward to reading books featuring the other pack members.

Wow just wow... Macy Blake does it again with the first book in the Chosen Champion series.

Once again we are pulled into the brilliant mind of Macy Blake and her equally amazing characters.

Bailey is too freaking precious for words. I love watching him come to terms that people actually like him and want to keep him in their life. Poor Bails is convinced that for some reason he'll be alone since graduating and no longer a stage manager. His group of friends is quick to show him they're not going anywhere and they truly love him.

Logan the alpha with "no pack" and a group of other shifters helping the hellhounds on earth now that the magic veil is closed and other sups can't cross between worlds. Given missions by the Oracle to keep humans and others safe until the magic world heals.

Their meeting is on terrible circumstances but could be a lot worse. They instantly fit in each other's lives even with some major secrets Logan is keeping but Bailey trusts his instincts and knows for some reason he can trust Logan. Their relationship development is solid. They form such an amazing pack unbeknownst to Logan who can't come to terms he is Infact the alpha of pack.

On a mission to figure out who is harming humans and why they can't find the sup who is doing in. It's a rollercoaster of a plot. You will laugh with this new pack. You'll see some characters from other stories. My favorite of course is Gus. Secrets are revealed, a pack forms before your eyes with each word.

It's a wonderful first book to what's going to be another fantastic series.

I think the best summary for the romance part of the book gives one of the characters in it:
"Super sex mystery man meets the soup of his dreams. He hunts down the deliciously attractive home chef who prepared it and proceeds to charm the pants of him, guaranteeing himself access to said dreamy soup for the rest of his days."
Bailey's and Logan's entire relationship is based on their shared love for soup (and food in general, but mainly soup)...
Is this entire book solely about soup? Sadly no...
Did it shake me in the core with some of its twists and turns? Hell f***ing yes...
Normally I am a super perceptive reader and normally I can see a plot twist (or the unnamed villain) coming from a mile away... But this book took me by surprise.
