**THIS NOVEL WAS PREVIOUSLY AVAILABLE IN DIRTY DEEDS COLLECTION WHICH IS NO LONGER FOR SALE. If you bought Dirty Deeds, you may have read this novel.**
Delaney Reed needs a vacation from her vacation town. Even on a good day, it’s a lot of work to keep the peace in a town full of gods, monsters, and magical beings. Lately all the good days have gone from bad to worse. Luckily, Delaney has a plan to steal away with her fiancé, Ryder Bailey, for a nice relaxing weekend together.
Her getaway plans come to a screeching halt when Delaney discovers Crow’s garage sale is selling cursed magical items to anyone who wants one—and everyone wants one.
Delaney only has a few hours to hunt down the cursed objects before a massive winter storm barrels into town and her vacation escape becomes impossible. But Delaney isn’t going down that easily. Neither rain, curse, nor killer sea monster or love-sick Bigfoot will keep her from getting three blissful days alone with the man she loves—hopefully far, far away from Ordinary, Oregon.
Devon Monk is a national best selling writer of urban fantasy. Her series include Ordinary Magic, House Immortal, Allie Beckstrom, Broken Magic and Shame and Terric. She also writes the Age of Steam steampunk series, and the occasional short story which can be found in her collection: A Cup of Normal, and in various anthologies. She has one husband, two sons, and lives in Oregon. When not writing, Devon is either drinking too much coffee or knitting silly things.
The town of Ordinary is anything but. It is the town Gods go to vacation in and set down their powers for a time. Delaney is the sheriff of said town and she is trying to get out of town to have a romantic vacation with her fiancé Ryder but can't seem to find a good time to break away. With her sister and the towns help she will have to figure out how to trust the town to take care of itself for a few days.
This is another fun book in the series and I really do love the town of Ordinary. Death is one of my favorite gods vacationing in the town and it is now his turn to hold all the god powers while they are on vacation. He also seems like the best person to ask for a favor to dog and pig-dragon sit while Delaney and Ryder go on vacation. I really do love all the pig-dragon antics.
The town of ordinary is always a fun place and I enjoyed the story but this on was move novella like than full on plot of who done it. The Bigfoot gathering was great and I had so much fun in the story but it wasn't as nail biting as some of the others.
Another great book in this series! I enjoyed the vacation and all the action before and during. I love all the characters and Devon lets us get to know them a little better with each book. I hope Devon writes more books in this series. I will read the next book but I hope for more. I enjoy the Reed sisters and their adventures! This is a great series.
Another wonderful story in the Ordinary Magic series, this one finds Delaney Reed trying to find a way to leave all of her responsibilities behind to go on a vacation with her fiancé Ryder Bailey. Besides the terrible weather, there are cursed objects that have to be hunted down and deactivated before anyone gets hurt, courtesy of the trickster god Crow. Delaney has to finally get to the point where she believes the town will be able to get along without her for a few days, which is very hard but might be possible with the encouragement of her two sisters and many friends, including the god of death, Than. I loved the addition of the Bigfoots, what a wonderful inclusion to the story, as well as Than’s interaction with the dog Spud and the dragon pig. I look forward to more stories in this world, they’re always a treat.
In Sealed with a Tryst by Devon Monk (Ordinary Magic #7), Delaney is struggling with her desire to take a vacay with her fiancé, Ryder Bailey, and her need to be in Ordinary handling all problems that arise. Crow's "Whale of a Sale" causes some chaos that requires all hands on deck as Delaney's working through her struggle. (✮✮✮½)
In Devon Monk's connected short At Death's Door, (Ordinary Magic #7a?), we get Death/Than's POV as he takes responsibility of Delaney and Ryder's dog and demon piggy. (✮✮✮☆☆)
I love the mix of Reed stories intermixed with dragon pig and Spud stories. They are all intertwined and interesting. I think dragon pig is just the cutest.
3 Until The World Faded And Only We Remained Stars
Sealed With a Tryst is the seventh book in the Ordinary Magic series by Devon Monk.
This is definitely an interesting read in the grand scheme of Ordinary weirdness. However, it doesn't really live up to the rest of the series. In most ways it more resembles a novella in its air, and with consideration to this very whimsical plotline. While I'm sure Pandora's cursed storage unit is indeed a pressing concern, within these circumstances, with the main focus on Delaney attending to her desperate need for a vacation with her recent fiance. I am positive it's small potatoes.
I did however truly enjoy Death, pig dragon, and Spud's antics at the end of the book. I would go so far as to say that I could have done with more Than in this short book. And am rather surprised to find so little of Talli taking up page time...
This seems like the authors intention to add some levity to the very strained Reed sisters, before the coming harrowing war. It was definitely appreciated. Although, I wish the author would have went further with the whimsy.
I do think the Bigfoot meeting was a simple and enjoyable addition to add further levity.
Read it when it was part of the DIRTY DEEDS ANTHOLOGY
Delaney said YES to Ryder's proposal in the previous book, now she's trying to have a vacation with him. But Delaney struggles between the wanting to go and his responsibility as Chief of Officer in Ordinary, Oregon. Because every time she leaves, something BAD happen, and Delaney is scared she will be too late to save everyone.
This novella is basically that, Delaney dealing with hijinks that seem to be good reason for her not to have a vacation, but at the same time people reminding her that she NEEDS that vacation more than ever. That hijinks include missing traffic lights and curses items from Pandora's box (no thanks to Crow, the trickster).
Then there's short story from Death's perspective when he is asked to take care of the dragon and Ryder's dog, Spud. I LOVE THAN SO FRICKIN' MUCH!!
This was a fun break from the more serious challenges that the town of Ordinary presents to our favourite police chief - Delaney. We have cursed objects around town and missing traffic lights and poles, a Bigfoot family reunion and a vacation to take. And between all of this fun I appreciated the emotional dilemma presented by the author. About Delaney being reluctant to take a vacation for fear that another calamity would hit right when she wouldn't be there to counter it. A valid fear to have after the last couple of years. But the resolution was just as great too.
I'm enjoying this series. It has interesting characters, each book has a decent plot that keeps you engaged and not bored, the humor is great, and the bits of romance through out the series is perfect. I'm reading the books on Kindle and listening to the Graphic Audio version on Audible & I'm loving the how the books come alive with the GA version. And honestly, although there are 9 books in the series, it doesn't seem like it because they are quick and enjoyable reads. I'm ready for the next book!
This was just the delightful and light read I was expecting this to be. There are lots of magical happenings in Ordinary, Oregon, and Delaney Reed seems to have a very hard time to let go and go on the surely deserved lover's weekend with the man of her heart.
It takes all kind of shenanigans to finally get her out of town.
I loved the banter, the light heartedness at the centre and this just funnily strange moments that seem to be so ordinary in Ordinary.
Not quite 3 stars rounded up. I would’ve given it more stars, but the whole theme of Ryder trying to get Delaney to go on a vacation and her refusing because of the current fill-in-the-blank problem in Ordinary got really old really fast. Her hubris in assuming the town could not run for a few days without her was ridiculous. And disrespectful to Ryder. However, the curse story was a lot of fun. And the short story about Death at the end was very cute.
Sealed With a Tryst Devon Monk A fun mystery of stolen light poles and the sheriff wanting a vacation but not wanting to leave her job. They have to give their powers to the next God up on the list before they leave on vacation. So before she leaves she gives Death her powers and asks him to watch her dog and her pig/dragon!😂 Clever!
This was a short novela and it was cute, but the story wasn't as good as in the other books in this series. Too bad we didn't see a bit from Myra or Jean's point of view when they dealt with the curses. That could have been great. Still, I enjoyed it just like I enjoyed the series in general, and I can't believe I'm close to the ending of it.
"Sealed With a Tryst" is a novella length entry in Devon Monk's "Ordinary Magic" series. While there are still some fun and entertaining aspects to this book, Delaney spends way too much time dithering about whether or not she can go on vacation with Devon. Death and Dragon Unicorn are still awesome, though.
I made a blunder by reading book 8 before 7 . But that only because I wasn't keeping count very well. It really wasn't that big of a deal because Delaney and Ryder still aren't married. This was s really fun book to read. Can't wait for book.9.
This series remains light hearted fun while arresting serious powers and possibilities. While this book can be read as a stand alone story, the previous books hero she'd light on the wide variety of characters.
Amusing, suspenseful and romantic story about Delaney Reed trying to go on a vacation with Ryder Bailey but things aren't going well with a garage sale of cursed magical items and they have to hunt down all the cursed objects before a winter storm comes.
Was generally annoyed by Delayney's inability to let go and let others take care of Ordinary. It felt like micromanagement and lack of trust in her sisters' capabilities more than actual worry about them potentially getting hurt. Therefore the lower rating.
I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy
