Things get weirder and a helluva lot more dark for the Grace kids when Simon gets kidnapped by a pack of bloodthirsty goblins. One thing I really loved about this one is how disturbing the monster designs are. They look like something you would see in a 18+ dark fantasy manga, not a kid friendly adventure story. There were also scenes where the goblins cooked cats alive over a fire while making Simon watch as they planned to cook him alive next. Surprisingly brutal and scary for the age rating and I think I liked this one more than the first for that reason.

The stakes were higher and the monsters were impressive. The Grace kids seem to be growing closer to each other as they find themselves thrown into one nasty situation after the other. As Stranger Things would say, shared trauma brings people together.

За авторите:
Холи Блек е родена в Уест Лонг Бранч, щат Ню Джърси, САЩ на 10 ноември 1971 г. Прекарва детството си в голяма викторианска къща, където майка ѝ разказва на нея и сестра ѝ истории за духове и вълшебни приказки. Това оказва важно влияние върху в бъдещата ѝ кариера като известен автор и още в училище тя започва да пише стихотворения, разкази и пиеси.
След завършването на гимназия се мести в Джърси сити заедно с приятеля си от гимназията Тео. През 1994 г. получава бакалавърска степен по „английска филология“ в Университет Ню Джърси, след което се записва да следва „библиотечно дело“ в Университет „Рутгърс“ и работи като редакторка в медицински списания.

Анотация:
Странни неща започват все по-често да се случват, след като семейство Грейс напуска Ню Йорк и се установява в стара къща, наследство от пра-прачичото Артър Спайдъруик.

Моето ревю:
Винаги съм харесвала филма и, както по принцип правя, изгледах него преди да прочета книгите. Нооо... имам си напълно правдоподобно оправдание -тогава бях малка и не можех да чета. Ха, сега не можете да ми кажете нищо! *смее се несигурно* Ама не можете, нали?

Всичко във филма беше толкова хубаво, че реших, че просто трябва да притежавам книгите. Първото впечатление, което поредицата прави с анотацията си е като че малко изтъркано (местят се в стара къща, в която по чудо започват да се случват странни неща). Искам да кажа, та това може да го видим в почти всяка история на ужасите. Нали?!

Обаче в реалност не е точно така. Е, за историите на ужасите е така, но говорейки за творението на Блек и ди Терлизи - хич даже не би могло да се нарече изтъркано. Напротив, историята е новаторска, завладяваща и се чете на един дъх. Тук най-вероятно някои от вас ще кажат "Как няма да се чете така? Само виж колко са тънки.". В този случай само че размерите лъжат. Независимо, от направо смешния брой страници, сюжета е разпределен през петте книги перфектно. Не се сблъскваме с прекалено съкратени части, които да объркват всичко. И нямаме такива части, които да се пръскат по шевовете от "плънка".

Взимайки в предвид, че поредицата пада повече в детската категория; прекрасните илюстрации, допринасящи стократно за правилното възприемане на историята, плюс невероятните писателски способности на авторката и като завършък - описанията на чудовищата, които са толкова детайлни, че те побиват тръпки... Та, взимайки в предвид всичко това, оценката ми е 5/5 звезди.

А сега да поговорим за продължението на "Хрониките на Спайдъруик, което също е на снимките. Честно казано, не знаех, че има продължение. Разбрах чак някъде 2018г.. Почувствах се глупаво, тъй като все пак е една от най-любимите ми детски поредици. Затова, когато я взех, се зарекох да я прочета веднага. Така и направих. Останах изумена...

Както повечето от вас знаете - вторите, третите, четвъртите и т.н. части, които следват в една поредица, особено пък, когато става на дума за продълженията излезли години по-късно, винаги са по-скучни. С други думи да си го кажем, авторите просто толкова губят връзка с героите си и сюжета, че не знаят самите те какво и защо го пишат това нещо. Но, като писател към писател, ги разбирам. Просто ентусиазмът вече отлетява и не е същото чувството.

Все пак трябва да добавя, че изключения от това "правило" има. Независимо, че по моя преценка, като цяло тези изключения са доста малобройни.

Та, да се върнем на темата. Продължението на петте книги от поредицата "Хрониките на Спайдъруик" доста надмина и като цяло се различаваше от очакванията ми. Даже смея да кажа, че по всички категории се равняваше на предишните книги. Авторите се бяха справили също толкова страхотно в работата си. Останах много удовлетворена от това как се развиха нещата в трите книги, но независимо от желанията си няма да давам спойлери. Оценката ми за продължението е 5/5 звезди.

For what it is, it's pretty entertaining. It's like a little sample book so you can get a feel of the main characters, and the monsters they will be encountering in the actual books. The quest is to find the lost twin brother but just as that story line reaches its conclusion, we get another to be continued moment.

Following that there is another lite "missing chapter" at the end of the book. I enjoyed this sampler though and kind of want to give it more stars, but it just wasn't complete enough to do so.

In the little book, "Troll Trouble," which is a lost chapter of the Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black is a terrific tale. It contains part two the the novella, "The Seeing Stone." With the lost chapter and the updated poem at the beginning really helps the reader feel updated and that there is a little bit more here. A lost chapter is the way to go, and it is well done. I'm sure I will enjoy reading the final part as much as I have enjoyed reading the first two little books. Yes, this is a good read for those interested in fairy tales.

I do love the Spiderwick Chronicles, but it's been many years since I read the whole series and it was incredible to return to "The Seeing Stone" by reading these three books and it was interesting having the additional chapter at the end. This is the second book in the special editions of the second book in the series, "The Seeing Stone", where it follows on from the previous parts. Malory & Jared go looking for their brother, Simon, who has been taken by goblins, and they find him locked in a cage. They also meet Hogsqueal, who is certainly on the annoying side.

I fell into this book by accident, it was in a box of books someone gave me for Christmas. Regardless, I wasn't exactly captivated, even allowing for coming into a series midway. Not interested enough to hunt down the actual series unless it falls into my hands somehow the way this one did. I wonder if a little more explanation (A page at the start of the book to catch me up) would have helped.

This is the second volume of The Spiderwick Chronicles. In the beginning of this story, the author has a page recapping what happened in the previous story. This book starts with Mallory and Jared running into the woods to find Simon. They come across a stream and want to see if they are able to cross it. As soon as Mallory steps in she is submerged under water. When she emerges, Jared pulls her ashore and behind them a troll emerges from the water behind them. The only way to stop the troll is to stay in the sun because the sun burns their skin, so Jared and Mallory run until they are in a sun patched area where the troll cannot reach them. Soon they come across a spot where a fire is lit and ten trolls surround it. Jared notices that hanging above the trolls are cages, so he crawls up the tree to see if he can find Simon. He eventually finds Simon and frees him, but the trolls take notice of them. I highly enjoy this series and I think it is great for the middle school age, maybe even early grades! The critique I have is that I think it is wonderful that in each book the author offers an introduction to the characters as well as a recap on what happened in the previous book.

Since this kid book is 40 something pages, I don't count it toward yearly reading challenge. This one was a bigger breeze to get through than the first even. Almost like a series of small scenes in a bigger novel, this one has plenty of tension and the pacing is relentless. Great way to get younger people into reading, short chapters at a time, and to get parents to keep dishing out money. Not expensive though really, and I'm sure you could probably find them in a larger book together. The illustrations add a nostalgic touch and I totally dig how each little book/chapter has guides of the species types, intro to characters and such. Fun, although seeing anything lick a cooking rat carcass is gross, no matter the age or genre.

Spider Wick is a fiction novel, and is a really good book to me. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action books and mystery books. This book is about a family who moves into a old house. There is a secret attic. There are three children and they go into the attic and hear a ruckus. All of the kids see all kinds of shadows, and then the kids find a seeing glass. One children puts the seeing glass up to his eye and can see a goblin or troll and jumps. from there a lot of bad things happen. if you want to see what happens read the book

In sprite of starting sort of in the middle of this series, I have enjoyed the first three books of the second series. I love the illustrations and like the three children's characters along with the fantastical circumstances they stumble into and around in. They behave believably and imperfectly- nice!

Also, the occasional feeling of dread is appropriate and the action described well. I'd recommend this book to children, definitely.

I thought it was interesting, imagine if creatures like goblins, trolls, and spites around this world coming after you and all you can do is know what you read in a book that you found in a house you just moved into. Your knowledge is the only thing that can help you from that book and you cant let anyone else have it. when I read the book I felt amazed by the creatures in the book and the adventures that Jared went on with Simon and Mallory.

this was just a little tease of what the actual series is about. if you're into creatures like trolls, griffins, sprites and goblins - then this seems like a good book for it. i would like to read an actual full-length book to form a better opinion of the series, though.

Got this little book in a cereal box. Very neat idea.
