I waffle in between liking and not really caring for this series, which recently wrapped up Season 1 of its anime. Mostly, I like how the main character (Uchimura) is "just" an overworked, underappreciated manager, with no real abilities other than delegation and problem-solving. I mean, I guess he's also a good study, with being able to learn other languages in order to manage the overseas operations he was thrust into doing in "our" world before being isekai-ed into this other world.

So, superpower of having a good deal of common (for Japan) sense. Probably some other things I'm forgetting, but despite being a sort of fast read, I'm a bit distracted by life these days and can "only" get one book read a day, haha. Anyway, props for having a less-than-likely hero, as it were.

I'm... annoyed by Ulmandra, who is the Stock Love Interest this go around, both a voluptuous brute and hot-and-cold around Uchimura. The issue is mostly the "Demons value physical prowess" "culture" that Ulmandra lives by (without bothering to inform Uchimura about, such that the Demon Overlord orders Uchimura to do his own research to find out HOW he offended Ulmandra)—okay, fine, you have a "culture" that values strong bodies and showing off said bodies. Awfully convenient that that's fetish material for the target audience!

More the voluptuous brute part, though; I've read a few characters exactly like this (hard body that's not actually that muscular AND huge breasts to go with that, lower intelligence, unwillingness to admit weakness/liking things), and it's not only improbable but also a bit tiring, since these characters are almost all used as comedy relief than as actually interesting characters. Ulmandra in specific goes straight from intensely distrusting Uchimura as a weakling human to an almost perfect 180 to thinly veiled crush, exacerbated by Uchimura's unintended teasing (he wants to share a reward with Ulmandra, but in the context of their culture, Uchimura's gesture reads as a marriage proposal).

I like the idea more than the execution, I suppose. Wouldn't be the first time, though at least I still mostly like this series other than the eyeroll-inducing parts. Like, if it toned down the "demon culture of wearing almost nothing and all having the same ridiculous Barbie/He-Man bodies" and "haha absolutely clueless guy unknowingly teasing the girl who likes him romantically for some reason" jokes a bit, sure.

I doubt it will any time soon. That's like the meat and potatoes of shounen anime! Oh, well.

Edit: I forgot to mention the pun that doesn't really land when translated to English. Uchimura says the minotaur has an "accent" and can't convey what he wants to say, so he says, "Penis...er." Which Uchimura correctly understands to mean "small."

...

I haven't looked up the actual word, but it's probably like "chinko/chinpo" (slang for penis) vs. "chiisai" (small). Yet the literal translation makes NO SENSE AT ALL. Couldn't have done maybe "peenie" (misunderstood version of "teeny")? See, five minutes of thought AND still works in the weird genital-related joke that happens later!

I get translation's an art, but. Seriously. The jokes have to land to even pretend to work, not veer off into wherever.

Surprisingly good

Let's not pretend we haven't all become jaded by the world ending avalanche of isekai novels. There are essentially no more truly original ways to write an isekai that isn't at least similar to another one. Having said that this story is self aware of this and instead focuses on awesome artwork and some actually funny and creative humor. But most importantly of all...we all saw the cover art at the time of this review. The illustrator and author are clearly "cultured" individuals and i genuinely can't wait for vol 2. In all seriousness this is a funny and we'll written ideal manga with great artwork nothing else needs to be said when looking for some isekai to read

Here I am again with another isekai series, I seriously can't get enough of them!

This one sounds different from others I've read, like I don't expect a series to be groundbreaking as I've read/seen alot but the whole salary man being just that and using those skills as a heavenly demon was quite amusing!

I like the characters and the dynamic they have so far, even though I found the first few pages a little, strange? I'm not sure how to word it, I both liked it and found it strange but not sure in a good or bad way, but by the end of the volume I was totally loving each page turn and can't wait to read more!

This is a typical manga story of a person being reincarnated into another world. The "twist" is that this individual is a salary man. His chief skill is negotiations at his previous job...so he is not looked upon very highly when he enters the new world...but in this volume alone you can see his observation skills and negotiations as nothing short of clutch for the demon kings army. To me this is a fun start to a series which may become even better over time. The main character of this series name is Dennosuke Uchimura. The story is fun and the pages fly by. The art is fantastic and I think this has the beginnings of a fun series!

Hilarious and sexy

Interesting twist on the Isekai genre. The story is fast paced and the comedic timing is perfect. The artwork is beautifully done and the female characters are gorgeous. Can't wait for the next volume to be published.

When what the demon army needs is a good middle manager.

What if you were summoned to another world, because you had good negotiating and management skills? What if what the demon lord wants you for your skills as a manager? Then you could rise to the top in this manga.

Ok, but nothing particular special. It seems to be going toward a harem style trope where every hot female is interested in an average Joe.

Isekai are a dime a dozen, so I’m always wary going into them. This one is pretty good. I already have a copy of volume two, so I’ll probably read that and get a review up for it at some point.

The story is simple, but well executed. Ironically, the Demon Overlord is a better, more understanding, boss than the typical ones you would find on Earth. Not only that, but he’s not just going around conquering everything for the heck of it. The Overlord legitimately makes life better for everyone in his domain. Villages that join the army gain the benefit of supplies and their economy gets better.

The art is wonderful. There’s a picture of Uchimura getting cheerfully thrown into the air by a minotaur, and it’s glorious. The characters look great. I even noticed a Food Wars reference in one picture with Ulmandra.

Ulmandra is probably my favorite character so far. She is adorable and very expressive. We see many facial expressions from her throughout the book. She also functions as the fan service eye candy, because she wears hardly anything. There is even straight up a nude picture of her at one point, but it doesn’t show anything graphic since the book is rated for ages thirteen and up.

I suspect as the series continues, Uchimura and Ulmandra will probably develop a romance. It seems like there are hints about that in this volume. Ulmandra was acting like she likes him, and Uchimura was saying and doing things that could be construed as the same.
