This wasn’t really a cowboy MM book, even tho it was. I’ll explain.
When I want to read a cowboy MM book, I want REAL cowboys, the tough, man-of-few-words, drawling, waters-run-deep type of man’s man. Hard work out on the ranch, bow-legged, stallion riding kind of man.
This was just set on a ranch, Wyatt (cowboy name) is actually a software developer who only bought the ranch bc of his dead wife’s dream. He doesn’t even want it.
The other MC, Desi, is definitely not a cowboy. He’s the “pretty” one vs Wyatt as the big Daddy bear.
So, that’s kinda disappointing.
The dead wife being a hurdle, and the son too, was pretty old throughout the book. Then, the author had to make sure we all knew that as much as Wyatt grieved for his wife that he loved so very much, he loves Desi more. But… I never really felt it. At most, I can see that he might love Desi AS MUCH. The demonstration of love between them, a grander one than he had before, was not done properly.
So, I’m just left annoyed at all the airtime given to the dead wife, then annoyed that I don’t believe he and Desi were the ultimate love match after all. Makes me feel the dead wife was just a stepping stone, born earlier, met him sooner and got in the way.
Which leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Every time I read about passionate lovers who had each other for a long time when, really, they could have been potentially happier loving someone else, I cringe. It’s not the kind of True Love I want to read in my romance novels.
BUT.
I learned something new: compersion. When you enjoy watching someone else sexually pleasure your partner. Huh.
