The series was really good, I missed out on a few things because I didn’t read any of the mangas that came out before this but it ended up being just fine
I'll be honest, I can't follow the Pokémon stories enough to understand what's going on, at least not 100%. It always feels like there's some reference I don't know/remember, and all of the attacks sound like the trainers yelling random things and hoping they work—I don't know the effects of each and whether it's a good move or not (though I do remember on occasion when, say, Satoshi/Ash suggests using a Fire-type Pokémon against a Water-type, which makes me shake my head since, THIS is who wants to be a MASTER trainer??).
I even have a hard time remembering what happened in the prior volumes, besides that X was this massive shut-in and had to be literally dragged out of his house (and I think that only happened because his house was destroyed, at which point he built a nest to shut himself in). Heck, I have a hard time remembering what happened at the START of this volume! It's at least half again as long as the other volumes, which was my cue that it was probably the last one, meaning at least I could see the story wrap up.
Well, I did, SORT OF...? It's not a very satisfying ending, since they left some loose ends (because of course they did), but mostly because the VERY very end suggests some dark thing happening, only to then say "THE END"... what.
(Okay, it actually says "Fin" but you know what I mean.)
Even the surprise Mewtwo appearance wasn't terribly satisfying, despite Mewtwo being one of my faves, since the Mega Evolutions are all kind of awful-looking (Charizard being a sort-of exception, since dragons are harder to mess up, even though Charizard isn't a "Dragon"-type somehow...?). Pretty much my only interest in Pokémon is that the "pocket monsters" are cute—not a fan of when they're uglier unless it's a COOL ugly (Gyarados, Aggron).
I don't know. Recommended for anyone interested in seeing how this ends. Definitely not a volume to start with, as newcomers to this story arc will be totally lost, even those who are Pokémon fans.
This was a beautiful ending to the Kalos arc. The final battle was amazing. It was one of my favourite ones. X did so well against Lysandre. With the help of all the others. It was great. I loved seeing everyone's endings, all their dreams coming true, becoming exactly who they want to be. I loved the references to the previous arcs, and even a hint of the future ones.
This whole arc was great. I've always loved the X and Y plot. Team Flare is really scary and well written. I think if things had been different for team flare, they could have been better people, they just weren't willing to try. I enjoyed X's character growth throughout the story. He was a introverted person, who's been through a lot, however over the story was able to overcome it. Y was great, I like how in the end, even with her rebellious streak, she's still really nice and kind to her friends, willing to give them the extra push if need be. My favourite character, Trevor, was great throughout the story, him working towards his goal and helping X and Y out with their Mega evolution.
Kalos was a really great region. It introduced one of my favourite pokemon, Slyveon and many other cute fairy types. I really enjoyed this story a lot, I hope that we'll see them again one day.
It’s a solid three. Great battles, rushed plot, and a strange Magearna chapter at the end. Liked the epilogue that showed what all the characters were doing after saving Kalos. And the teasers to other regions while occasionally tenuous have a chance to be entertaining in the Alola stories.
I don’t know, like the X and Y games there was a lot of promise here, and it definitely would benefit from a Z story.
yeah, I think XY is officially my favorite arc. that said, I would’ve liked to see Yveltal get more play. [spoilers for this and volume 5] Ah well, c’est la vie.
The games could have been so good. This is so good. A perfect conclusion for theses characters, loved it.
Best character: There all do good, but Emma is so GirlBoss, love her.
Best quotes: Had to do two, had more that I loved, but oh well. “If we let ourselves get as judgmental as him, we might have…” It shows that maybe even Lysandre was trying to help, but over time he grow into who he was. “I would rather die than be pitied by you. That’s all”. The most pure kind of hate.
The ending of this volume, ending the XY saga, is strong. I didn't exactly understand the pause in the middle with Xerneas. I think they could've told the story a bit better in that regard. But they did a good job of ending it.
