Ancient evil arrived in a bank of fog and settled over the town of Wray, Colorado. Tom Benton lost everything to the evil that lives inside the fog. On the first night, Tom held out until the sun rose to chase away the vampire who lives in the fog. The monster vanished with a promise. Croatoan’s promise was to return the next night to finish what he started. Over the centuries, no one has survived his evil, his complete destruction.
Tom has escaped the horrific plans of Croatoan once with the aid of Sin, a teenaged boy who also lost everything. The consequences of victory were severe though. One bite from his son caused Tom to suffer the ravages of Croatoan's disease.
As night falls, Tom and Sin can see the shroud of fog on the horizon. It returns to them, seeking what was at first denied.
Tom waits for Croatoan’s return, but he has a plan. He doesn’t care about his own survival; he only wants to live long enough to see the end of the ancient vampire.
Both Croatoan and Tom find fuel in their rage, their hatred of one another. Tom knows that anger and fear are the emotions that Croatoan craves, but he cannot help himself. The losses he has suffered have brought about the end of everyone he has ever loved.
Will Tom’s boiling fury fuel him to victory or cause a painful death at the hands of Croatoan?
Tom waits with Sin, watching the fog arrive on the last night of their epic battle, swearing an end to the arriving evil.
Croatoan arrives, but never alone. He brings others with him who are as intent on seeing Tom and Sin’s death.
Welcome to Death Within the Fog. There is no Salvation. - The conclusion of the "Within The Fog" 2021 horror genre finalist award in the IAN Book Awards

This book picks up where book 2 ends. It seems the mighty and monstrous croatoan is invincible. He just seems to live on through the centuries and the decades. He is up against two formidable enemies this time; Tom and Sin. Tom is a middle aged man who lost his wife and son to Croatoan. Sin is a plucky teenage guy, who lived through a horrifying and abusive childhood. Together, they come up with some pretty good tricks and tactics to fight against Croatoan. Woven throughout the story is also another prequel, set in 1923 in the Amazon, where Croatoan and his clan decimate a whole village. One villager is spared, and turned, to become another member of Croatoan's army. You have to wait till the end to find out what became of this new monster. I found the author's descriptiveness to be very realistic. I could almost smell the rotten meat stench of the fog, and see the drool dripping off the huge mouths full of teeth of Croatoan and his fellow vampires. I could feel the terror and the hopelessness of the victims. This is not just another horror story. It also explores the complexities of human relationships and human emotions. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes this combination.
Connecting a vampire with the lost colony of Roanoke in Book 1 was a genius idea! Croatoan comes back in Book 2 to destroy a Native American village, and in Book 3, another village on the banks of the Amazon. Mixed in with these terror filled episodes is the story of Tom Benton and his family in Wray Colorado. Tom and his wife and son meet the vampires in a fog that drifts with them as darkness falls and their friends and neighbors are taken a few at a time until Wray is emptied.
WARNING! Don’t read further until you have read the first two books.
Humans are nothing to Croatoan except cattle, or pigs, fit only as food for his people, or additions to his kind over the centuries of his unlife. Tom and his neighbor Sin have tricked the vampires and are the first humans to survive an attack, ever! Knowing they have truly angered the old vampire and that he will come after them again and again until he gets his revenge, Tom and Sin have no choice but to lay a trap. What could go wrong? Just everything!
This series gets better and more frightening with each book. Hopefully there will be more. One last warning: stay out of the heavy fog, especially after dark.
The story links to other books in the series because the Vampire Master has a fog to protect his hoard and terrorize his victims. This story can stand on its own. The story looks at the current activity of the vampires and a past village or town that they disseminated. The current town suffering total annihilation has 2 surviving inhabitants trying to destroy the Master vampire when he comes to finish off Tom, who lost his son and wife to the vampire. The origin of Addie the Master vampire's successor is reviewed by presenting the annihilation of a small village on the Amazon. The characters are fully developed. The reader is engaged in the survival of the struggling humans. The reader will find this book to be a page turner and the twist at the end is memorable. I would highly recommend this book.
These books hook you in and you have a very difficult time doing anything, including sleeping, until you turn that final page. This book took us into a couple of time lines. Tom and Sin face unbelievable heart break, but stay strong and take us through a magical relationship between two broken people. Croatoan is his wicked self which gives us the horrific darkness he loves to play while hunting. The ending was a surprise. Loved it!! I received this book free for my honest review.
Books 1 thru 3 are all very good and I finished them in only a few days. There are not a bunch of chapters in these books that just take up space,..no wasteful parts just to make the story longer. This was an awesome read and I hope the author, whom I plan to follow now, will continue this story thru more books.
This is the 3rd book in the series. Without spoilers, the little town of Wrey seems perfect to enjoy your family and get away from the hustle of city life. But for Tom, this move of his has put him and his family in the cross hairs of something that comes with the fog.
Enjoying this series, a mix of vampire lore with the legend of the Roanoke colony.
Man oh man! I absolutely love this book. It is my favorite of the series so far! I am very much looking forward to the next one of this series! I loved the Laughers series and am truly enjoying this one, also. The ending of this was sooooo twisted. Keep writing, I will definitely keep reading.
Five stars for the whole series!! I loved these books! They were perfect. Simple yet exciting, creepy and fun and I loved our main characters. Here’s to hoping for a fourth book!!
