A Shadowborn Prince of Hel and a feared, all-powerful Trickster Witch will learn once again that not everything is as it seems in this second installment of the Tricky Magic series.
Travel to Hel with this steamy dark romance that has all your favorite things: Shadow play, supernaturals, loveable characters, and some tricky magic.
Rosier, crown prince and commander of Hel’s four armies, has been desperately avoiding his destiny as a ruler. When his father kidnaps Ellea, the Trickster Witch who gave him something worth living for, he has no choice but to return home. He must leave the comfort of his secluded life to journey to Hel—a path that is full of monsters, beasts, and terrible memories.
Nothing will stand in his way of saving Ellea—not his father, not Hel, and not the Gods. The funny thing is, he will be reminded once again that she never needed saving.
Ellea never saw herself stowed away in a castle, surrounded by the dead, sleeping Gods, and demons. While navigating her powers with her captor and newfound friend, she realizes that Hel itself needs work. She misses Ros every second they’re apart, but she can’t shake the feeling that she is exactly where she belongs.
A string of attacks will disrupt Ros and Ellea’s magical and steamy reunion. Only Ellea can stop her parents from ruining the balance between mortals and supernaturals, but she may have to give up a piece of her soul to do it.
Tricky Princess is a dark paranormal and mythological romance that contains detailed sex scenes, violence, swearing, and emotional trauma.
*ARC Review* Tricky Princess has more tricky magic, more hilarious banter, and more character growth!
The story picks up right where Tricky Magic left off, and it took a turn I honestly didn’t expect. I lived in agony because of Ros and Ellea's separation 😫 But the agony was worth it because the scenes in Hel were priceless 😂
I loved Ellea in TM, but I freaking LOVED her here! Her character growth was so good. Whenever she interacted with one of the established cast or the new characters, I giggled. :)
Devon and Ros were highlights for me. Like with Ellea, I loved them even more in this one. Honestly, the found family aspect of the book made the reading experience so much better.
“Is there a sign-up form?” “What?” both Ros and Ellea asked together. “To get kidnapped by demons.”
And that ending was so good! Tricky Princess took a turn I didn’t expect and left me having more questions we hopefully get answered in Book 3
I highly recommend the series if you like magic, found family, and spice!

I don't know why the sequels or endings I've been reading lately feel like 3-star reads; they start out strong, it's all consuming and it's even fast-paced, and then it just stops.
Let me get into it. Part I and Part II, are amazing. We have this dual POV where you honestly get to feel like each character. Ellea and Ros are so different but at the same time, you see where the other complements them.
Was this book sexier than the first? Yes, it definitely was and so much better with its smut and sensuality, that tension... divine.
Now the bad parts... why so much smirking? My God, I truly believe their faces would hurt so much from that. Part III was a bit inconsistent, I felt like it was just jumping all around. One moment we were here and the next some other place and days had passed, a bit weird. But the plot twists, revelations, everything... quite interesting.
Thank you Lexi for sending me the ARC and allowing me to read this awesome book early!

4⭐/5 2.5🌶️/5
Wow what a journey!! This book takes place right after the first one. In the first book you see Ellea scared of her magic, and stubborn about even using it. In this one, you see her grow and become this strong badass witchy warrior! And I am soooo here for it! I loved seeing this side of Ellea! I have to add Ellea is probably the most relatable fantasy character I’ve read about. Her love for coffee and smutty books is something I can fully relate to, now if only I had some awesome magic too.😂So! She gets to Hel, not into it at first. Hanging out with Ros’ father Daddy Azzy! He is probably my favorite side character, along with Billy.
The first part of the book has you traveling to Hel with Ros, which is a freakinggg hellish journey. With him and his friends by his side though, they can get through anything. The bond amongst the friend group is one that I love to see. And you have Ellea in Hel, training with Daddy Azzy. That is where you start seeing the amazing transformation of Ellea. I loved how she was just off doing whatever she wanted, and gave 0 effs about what the other demons/beasts thought of her. Embracing this magical part of herself. The confidence she developed in the second book was *chefs kiss*.
When Ros gets to Ellea, it isn’t all love and spice. Not to mention how flippin tired he is from their trip to Hel! There is a bit of conflict they have to work through, and they deal for the rest of the book. Don’t fear, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I loved the introduction to a couple new characters, they fit so well with the rest of the group. Ellea driving Duhne mad, and her stealing the horses made me laugh. I love how everyone is obsessed with Ellea’s smutty books! 😂There is training together, a massive magic battle, and a really hot multi Ellea and Ros scene. 🥵🥵🥵
If you love fantasy books with some really hot spice, you need to read this series!
This book will be out on Tuesday Sept. 13th on KU/Amazon, you can also preorder it now! I can’t for you all to jump into the rest of Ellea and Ros’ journey! Oh and that ending revealed a HEA…for now. 😏😏😏
Oh my Gawd Lexi! I didn't expect all THAT when I read this book. Tricky Princess has a whole different vibe from Book 1! If you loved book 1, bitch buckle up book 2 gets even better. Like I am shookt from EVERYTHING I HAVE READ!
It is so much bigger than you have imagined it to be. I feel so honored to be getting this book early. And I would like to commend Lexi for all the beautiful details and descriptions in this book. I felt like I was really there and Hel I would say it I would want to be in Hel with Daddy Azzy not gonna lie bruh.
The Plot gets more exciting and bigger players to come. I adore the new characters they are funny AF! Plus you get to know more about Ros' history and his family too. I just had a freaking great time and Ellea is just slaying like the freaking BAMF witch she is.
I just wanna say that I got scared for a freaking moment in the book, but it's for you to find out ill hush, hush for now.
Bitch, let me tell you the smut was just top tier as per usual. I just loved Tricky Princess as much as I loved Tricky Magic no cap. The details in this book we're intricate. I love my grumpy shadow daddy and he was just EVERYTHING! I cannot wait for you guys to read it! Plus, I am freaking excited for what's to come since the plot is getting bigger and bigger! Holy shit.
I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC of Tricky Princess from @author. Ellea is a trickster witch that is currently dating Rosier the demon prince of Hel. Ellea is kidnapped by Ros father and taken to Hel.. as a ploy to get Ros to come home. While Ros and his friends try to find a way to get into Hel since his magic is being blocked from using a portal they have to take the long way. Twelve days go by in his attempt to save her but little does he know she never needed saving. Ellea is leaving all she can about Hel, the God's and her magic from Daddy Azzy. A war is coming. A war she needs to prepare for to be able to protect the people she loves and the mortal realm from total distraction. Visions she has fought her whole life from coming true. With her parents on the loose its now or never she must strick hard and true.
Side Note: GIRL!!! I will say this once and only once if you have not read this series you better get to it. This book had me by the balls it was so good. To see the characters development and watch there relationship grow was so well detailed and it wasn't rushed *chefs kiss*. Yall know your girl loves some good old fashion smut and Ms. Lexi did not disappoint. Shadow daddy and echos (aka duplicate copies of yourself🥵) The ending though is what has me shook all I can say is I CANT WAIT!!! *add to cart*

First and foremost, thank you to the author and BOMM for an advanced copy of this book. I recognize I am in the minority when it comes to this series, but I always seek to be honest with my reviews.
There are many great aspects of Tricky Princess. Campbell’s series is the perfect blend of early-to-mid 00s supernatural entertainment. There’s a hint of Charmed and TVD which makes for an exciting adult fantasy PNR. Despite the setting shift, it is still an exquisite autumn read.
Ros is the perfect book beau. Unfortunately, Ellea is still not my favorite FMC. And as her story continued, I felt the prose shifted from adult to NA to YA, harkening back to the early pages of book one that I had such a difficult time reading.
In terms of worldbuilding and plot, things were equally muddled. Ellea’s journey to the dark side promises character development and growth, but there is limited action to allow her to flourish. Despite starting off directly following the end of Tricky Magic…where is the urgent rush to reunite Ros and Ellea? Where is the looming threat of Belias and Ellea’s parents?
Much like its predecessor, Tricky Princess suffers from a stark contrast between expectation and reality. But is that on the author? No. Tricky Magic is a series that does not meet my personal preferences, but there is so much within the pages that will entice fans of Karina Halle, Mariel Pomeroy, and Scarlett St. Clair.

Oh, so an incomplete series that is unlikely to ever be finished? And the true evil isn’t even her parents but a god we have never heard of or met, and now never will because there hasn’t been a new book since 2022?
Ok so I should have done my research and figured out there was intended to be more books on the series. But I thought this was the finale. Which had my expectations higher.
Ellea was kidnapped and ended up loving Hel anyways. Ros meets her three ex boyfriends and 2 are like “oh you have a man now, cool”. And the other is mad. And nothing happens? Ros was blocked out of Hel somehow, we will really never learn how. His whole journey felt like filler. Her dad was good but only decided to fight for her when she was under threat of capture at 29 years old…… Not when she was literally a child being LITERALLY TORTURED. Idk. Idkidkidk. I’m angry.
Would have been 3 stars if there were more books to come.
arc review 4.5⭐️ I really liked the first book, and I loved the characters, but this sequel was soooo good. I was hooked almost from start to finish, and it’s written so well. The spice was hot and I need more, especially with Ros in his demon form 👀
CWs: explicit spice and language, somnophilia, talk of emotional abuse, hint at SA, and graphic violence
Ellea has a lot of character growth and I loved getting more of Ros. Her friendships with Azzy and the other characters in Hel were so much fun to read about. Her training sounded interesting (wish we had gotten a little more of that too) and I thought the battle scenes were kind of cool. The banter was sooo good and... I just loved like every second she was on the page really. I can’t wait to learn more about the trickster history and about Ellea’s specifically. I also can’t wait to see more about this prophecy/curse that keeps being mentioned. The plot did feel a little messy to me, like there were too many things that were happening, I thought they were all really good individually, but when put together in the story just as they were written, they fell just a little flat a few times. The only other complaint I had was the lack of development of Hel. Hopefully we get more in the next book :) Other than those two things though, I LOVED Tricky Princess. I definitely recommend, and cannot wait to read the next one!
Things get better and better in Tricky Princess just as I had hoped! This book went to another level (quite literally 🔥) We visit new places and it’s lore and magic make the reading experience and atmosphere so much more vivid. There is space for more world building here in my opinion because I’m loving the vibe.
The characters are developed further, we still follow Ellea and Ros but both follow their own paths of development in both plot and character and I really enjoyed seeing how the challenges of the plot shaped and changed them both. We also meet some amazing new characters #teamazzy to suspect, love, trust and mistrust.
Without a doubt Tricky Princess has more intrigue and page turning power for me than Tricky Magic but enjoyed together they made a great fantasy romance that is perfect for lovers of found family, enemies to lovers, only one bed, touch her and die and fated mate tropes.
This book is absolutely amazing. Such a great second book! It is so emotional! I love this series. I love these characters. THIS IS THE FOUND FAMILY. I cried a bunch in this one. I can’t wait for more. I don’t know why I didn’t read this series sooner.
Y'all I can't! This book was so f-cking good. If you like anything witch related, badass FMCs, and lots of amazing spice, I HIGHLY recommend this series. I need the 3rd book NOW.
Tricky Princess was an amazing follow up to Tricky Magic. Lexi has grown so much as an author since she first released TM and you can really see it in this book. Overall it's a 5 star read for me because I had so much fun reading it and I absolutely love the story. If I'm focusing on things like formatting and pace I'd probably give it a 4.5
I loved seeing what Hel was like and getting to learn more about Ros' family. DADDY AZZY🥵😭❤️ Omg! He was so sweet. And how he treated Ellea!!!🥹 I love him so damn much and I can't wait to see him again. We get to meet more of Ros' family and we see so much more of Garm, Billy, Devon, and Sam, which I will never complain about bc I love them sm. The spice was amazing as always and Ros and Ellea's relationship is the fucking cutest.
Tropes: Fated mates Grumpy/broody love interest Badass female MC with magic I love you, but we can't last Funny & loveable side kicks/characters Cliffhanger
TWs: Emotional abuse Sexually explicit content Hint at sexual assault Somnophilia FFFM Violence Death
So blessed to have had the opportunity to read an eARC of this sequel. It flowed so well and had me turning the pages like a fiend.
I love that the reader is taken further into the world building aspect and the expansion of the world that Campbell creates. Was it a lot to absorb? Sure, but that's the excitement of a sequel. The reader gets more of the story and gets to immerse themselves into the characters and their development.
At the start of TP, we pick up where we left off in Book 1 and feeling the separation between Ellea and Ros is a cold slap to the face, but guys... we'll get through it. Want to know why? New. Characters. YES! We get introduced to new characters that allow the plot to flow so effortlessly.
I truly enjoyed the growth of Ellea and Ros’s relationship and the utter chaos they created. They went through a few speed bumps along the way, but as our baddies usually do, they make up in their nasty ways; banter and sexy time included.
This series is one I highly recommend to all my supernatural dark romance readers. There are SO many incredible characters and the plot and world building are something that become so addicting to be immersed in.
It’s difficult when the second book is worse than the first book. There was a drastic difference between the pacing of the book, and in my opinion the character development. The first book really set the stage for this great adventure with major revenge and was a great slow burn of enemies to lovers.
This book lacked the adventure that I was promised from the first book, and the pacing was either super slow or super fast. I wish this book would’ve gone over more of the political detail of what was going on and dived into the world a little bit more thoroughly. I felt this book was missing a lot of aspects that would’ve made it just as equally good as the first book. Unfortunately, it fell short.
In the authors note, it said that this will be a four part series and that the HEA was only “for now.“ Why would the author wrap up the series if there’s going to be two more parts? I’d rather have a cliffhanger to want me reading more because now I feel like I can stop and have no urge to continue reading when this book went downhill.
In the first book, I had a lot of connections with the characters but now they kind of just annoy me. It’s sad because I wanted to continue reading this series. Alas, this is gonna be shelved and never take up space in my head again.
I loved the different setting in this second installment of the Tricky Magic series! It was cool getting to feel like I was in “Hel” but like in a good way? 🫣😂 I mean, maybe if I was Ellea I guess! Hahaha it was cool getting to meet & see so much of the ruler of Hel — “daddy Azzy” I lowkey love him lol!
The plot was so cool I really enjoyed it and it definitely had me intrigued all the way through.
Oh my gosh… the spicy scene where there was t h r e e EHEHEHEHE my fav spicy scene so far I think for this series! 🤤😮💨🤌🏼
That ending though, OMG I need more immediately! 👏🏼
Seriously loved this series. Nothing quite like a book that has the enjoyable balance of smutt and plot. (Disregarding that all resolutions were wildly underwhelming).
TW - emotional abuse (on page, not by H), SA (hinted at), parental loss, claustrophobia, parental abuse & neglect (recounted & on page), night terrors, violence CW - somnophilia
Tropes - fantasy, paranormal, possessive, found family, dark

I loved this. Like all of it. I was so invested from start to finish.
The format of Part 1 of this book had me gripped. I really enjoyed reading about what Ellea (FMC) and Ros (MMC) were doing while not being together. It made the book really interesting especially when their POVs were in slightly different timelines. I also found it very amusing that Ros was fighting for his life whilst Ellea was playing cards with some demons in the kitchen 🤣🤣🤣
I quickly became a MASSIVE fan of King Asmodeus or Azzy or Daddy Azzy. The whole nickname discourse sent me 🤣. I'm actually his Number 1 fan and I LOVED the way he basically became everyone's adoptive father, especially Ellea; their relationship was so sweet to me.
All the side characters (not Belias or Beezlebub) had me gripped. I loved all of them. Florence, Duhne, Reaver, Viatrix, Sam, Devon, Billy, Garm, Azzy. I was LIVING for them in this book, I felt like they added so much value to Ellea and Ros' story. I especially loved Reaver and Viatrix just appearing out of thin air when they are called 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Ellea and Ros' journey developed a lot in this book and we learn more about what Cerce and Cato are doing. Ellea is trained by Azzy, Ros & Florence and her strength and power excels so much in this book and it was genuinely so nice to read. She has come a long way from her childhood and her shitty upbringing.
We also get to see the politics of Hel which was really interesting to me and solidified the fact that Belias and his dad are on some real bs lmao.
Also, lets not forget that Ros, the Demon Prince, is hot af. Like 🥵
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

''I may be able to crush your spine right here in front of the other sniveling bastards, but I won't. Instead, I will drag your ass to the dungeons and leave you to my woman. She's brilliant and beautiful and she'll do far worse to you. She can do whatever the f*ck she wants. '' The demon shook in his hold, and Ellea couldn't help but bite her fist and moan. Panties were burning everywhere from the sight of him, at the sound of his words, and the way her powers reveled in it.
Damn, this book was fire! I was lucky enough to receive a revised edition of Tricky Magic and I arc for Tricky Princess. Thank you Lexi for this! 🖤 It goes without saying that all thoughts are my own and left voluntarily.
The story picks up right where we left TM. Ellea is kidnapped and brought to Hel with Ros, Sam, Devon, Billy and Garm trying to bring her back. But everything is not how she expected it to be. Fate has different plans. Curses, history, and prophecies are not making things easy for our Ellea and Ros. Will they be able to avoid all the destruction? Will they accept their fate? You will have to find this out for yourself.
"It had always been them, her and Billy, ever since she was little. With her, she could do anything; and with her new family, she was unstoppable."
The second installment of TM was a wild ride. A rescue mission, facing your worst fears, dealings with monsters and magic, and all that wants to ruin you. The tension and spice! Friendship and betrayals. I loved every second of it. You will get to meet new characters that are as mischievous as beautiful. And the description of Garm? Ahh.. I hope to see more fanart haha
I enjoyed seeing how Ellea grows as a character. She finds purpose and power and is making even daddy Az softer. I adored their interactions and his patience towards her.
And our devilish prince Ros - he really didn't want to come home, but because it's Ellea, he will do absolutely anything to get back to her. Even facing his past, that is full of sorrow. I am appreciative that we learn more of him this time. Even though he is possessive, protective and murderous, we can see him being more vulnerable.
Their reunion and all their scenes afterward were full of lust. Consumed by each other. You will definitely get more steamy scenes between these two. Or more? haha. Let it go Rosier, let it go, you devil.
She was goading him, trying to take back some control with her dirty mouth. ''The goal is to make you not walk.'' He said it with a snarl, snapping his hips hard, enough to bruise, but she didn't flinch, didn't balk. She smirked. ''Then I would go harder.'' What a brat.
“Don’t all demons have shadows?” “Yes and no.” He kissed her cheek and moved to whisper in her ear. “I’m the only one who can wield them in the wicked ways you love.” Tricky Princess, LL Campbell
LL Campbell does is again with the second installment in this paranormal romance. With fresh, unique spice, new tricks, twists and turns in the plot, and new characters, Tricky Princess was as addicting as it was sexy.
Do I want to be Ellea? Absolutely.
Coming into her powers and herself, Ellea takes us on a journey. Pair that with the dual POV we get from Ros, this story was a page turner. I loved all the side characters, they elevated the reading experience for this story and plot, and truly added to not only the main characters, but the book as a whole. I think Sam is my favorite, or maybe Billy or Garm, honestly I can’t decide.
I liked the complexities of the plot, the characters, and the prophecies. And the final battle scene was everything I could hope for. Then pair that with the epilogue that sets up the next book nicely, I am fully addicted to see what happens next with Ellea and Ros and all the characters that LL Campbell has created.
I’m giving it 4/5 stars because I do have a few things that weren’t really pairing well with me. One being the descriptions of Hel when Ellea was there was a little much for me, there was a lot of description on the castle that made it a bit of a slow read at that part. And two, I do wish the battle scene was longer, it was so cool to see Ellea come into herself during that scene, but I do wish we got more of it. Other than that, this was a fantastic read.
A paranormal romance with spice (think shadows and horns and duplicates), found family, a demon and a trickster, and a plot point to keep you wanting more, Tricky Princess is a must read.
The world building and plot weaving is spectacular. We get taken so much further into this world of Tricky Magic from page one as we pick up right where we are left after the ending of Tricky Magic. I will admit that some might find it slower as we given a lot of new information as Ellea learns more about herself, her magic, and Hel. However, with this new information I found myself really immersed into the world and our loved characters.
The start of Tricky Princess is well…tricky. We start off with the separation of Ellea and Ros and how they are (or aren’t) handling it. I really loved the dual POV of Ellea and Ros through this time. It was so angsty but also wonderful because we really see Ellea come into her own and THRIVE! I mean, did we expect anything less from her? We also get a whole new cast of characters who are just wonderful. The support characters, both old and new, really add so much more to the story. They are perfection.
I really loved the intimate venerable moments as well. We see Ellea and Ros grow so much internally but also together. There is so much acceptance and love both of each other and for their self its really quite beautiful.
To go into much detail would spoil things and I, for one, hate spoilers. The battle scenes are SO GOOD! The plot thickens and is so well woven with subplots that I still haven’t figured it all out. And the spice…..wooo child. The new tricks that are learned….I wish I was Ellea.
Tropes: 🌟Found Family 🌟Grumpy / Sunshine 🌟Touch her and you are unalived. 🌟Alphahole
Of course, spoilers are ahead even if I do talk in riddles. But know this, you can read both books and have enough of a satisfactory ending. So what are you waiting for?
✨️ All the freaking stars!!! ✨️
While Tricky Magic was certainly a character growth book with some of the plot coming into play. Tricky Princess upped the anty as we headed to Hell after Ellea was "Kidnapped". Ellea thrives in Hell as she tries to stay alive and learn all she can. I absolutely loved seeing Ellea grow here and Azzy appearing. It was really fun. I loved the sneakiness and stabbiness of these chapters and the introduction of new characters. Ros of course was such an overprotective Alpha Hole once he found Ellea, but we forgive him, we can't all be perfect 😜 also makes for some fun 🥵🥵.
I'm pleased and saddened for Ellea as the battle with her parents came to pass. But I'm glad that story is done and she can move on and embrace her new path even more and heal from her past. I loved the twist on her heritage and can't wait to see what else she can do.
This book gets all the stars because I absolutely love this miss fit family; Demon, Trickster/Seer, Witch, Wolf, Familiar/Witch and Demon hound, which are all perfectly imperfect. I was so teary-eyed at the ending between Ros and Ellea. My heart almost broke then exploded with happiness. I'm kinda mad about it 🤣 I don't get teared up often.
This book had such a great mix of royalty, politics, intrigue, romance and plenty of action both ⚔️ and 🥵 I can't wait to see what these characters get up to next.
Ros, Ellea, and the gang are back for book 2! I personally liked this one even better than the first! I'm not sure if it was that I got more used to the writing style or what but this one flowed a lot better for me and it didn't really feel like it was written in third person POV which to me, is a sign that it was written well. I also loved where this book took us plot wise because I was very excited to see everything Lexi had in store for us after the ending of Tricky Magic and man did she deliver. I absolutely adored all of the new side characters we were introduced to and would be a bit hard pressed to pick a favorite (it's definitely Azzy hehehe) and I loved how supportive they were of Ellea even if doing so kept giving one of them mini heart attacks! 🤣 I hope we get more of them in the rest of the books because they were the perfect additions to an inner circle that I was already obsessed with!
Ros and Ellea are still my faves and while they definitely had some trials to face in this one that weren't fun to read, I think it that it helped to deepen their relationship with each other and conquer one of the biggest challenges/threats to their relationship. Their continuous banter remains one of my favorite aspects because it always adds a layer of sexual tension that I find myself enjoying no matter the circumstances! I also loved that we got to see a lot more group of the dynamics between Sam, Billy, Garm, and Devon, I loved their banter with each other and all of the general antics they got up to together! Their group is the perfect balance of we will destroy you mixed with comedic relief and I cannot get enough!
I am SO THANKFUL that our queen Lexi decided to give us a merciful cliffhanger with this one, it's very obvious where she could have chosen to end it but she loves us and didn't go that route thank goodness! I don't know what I would have done otherwise but that's not to say that I'm not excited for book three, quite the opposite! The perspective for this story just got way bigger than I originally thought possible and once again I cannot wait to see where Lexi decides to take the story from here because the possibilities are endless! My only wish is that the character we got introduced to at the very end shows up a lot in the rest of the books because I already love them just based on principle alone! 👀😈
A tale of fated love and finding one’s true self, Tricky Princess begins right where we left off in Tricky Magic, wandering the black and gold marbled halls of a castle that belongs to a King of Hel. You know that feeling of diving into a sequel, yeah? That equal mix of excitement and subtle fear that something may go horribly wrong? Well, Tricky Princess, while different from its predecessor, is bigger and better in every way possible. The plot deepens, the scope widens, the journey becomes grander – loved this book to pieces.
At the heart of this story lies Ellea and her beautiful development and evolution. Within these pages she finally finds her true place and purpose, all while stirring the proverbial pot (as is her way!). Her growth is something special to behold, and witnessing her become even more badass after careful guidance from her found family had me cheering her every step of the way.
On the other hand we have Ros – grumpy Shadow Daddy extraordinaire. Throughout his journey, we experience firsthand his struggle with letting go of control. Sure, it’s agitating at times, but our girl Ellea puts him in his place pretty quickly after their long-awaited steamy reunion. I mean, can you blame someone his age being a little resistant of change?
I was thrilled to see some of my favorite characters return, and even more so to be introduced to a few new faces to fall in love with – #squadgoals. Campbell writes amazing characters, simple as that. I don’t want to give too much away here, but Azzy, Florence and Ruhn make this adventure absolutely amazing.
The majority of this story takes place in Hel, a realm that has nothing in common with our preconceptions of it. It’s beautiful, rich in history, ancient politics, and delicious family drama. We learn and explore alongside Ellea, discovering how the old way of living (even though residents are already dead) needs a’changin’. Something she’s all too happy to address….and happily does so.
The plot continues on with our search for Ellea’s parents and the destruction that lies in their wake. New carefully veiled secrets come to light, blowing minds left and right, leaving readers begging for more. Bloodier battles, shocking revelations, and dangerous additions to the chess board make this one a page-turner, and I cannot wait to see where Campbell takes us next.
The answers to many of the lingering questions we were left with from Tricky Magic are addressed, as a whole new set is introduced. If courtly intrigue, political machinations, edge-of-your-seat action, imaginative and inventive spiciness, old prophecies, sleeping gods, demons and everything in between is your type of thing, then I highly recommend giving this series a read. Loved it. Gimme more.

Rating: 4.5⭐, but we'll round up!
Note: A huge thank you to the author for providing me with an early complementary copy in exchange for an honest review.
To tell you that I was excited is an understatement when I looked and saw that Tricky Princess was dropped onto my kindle early. I LOVED Tricky Magic so much. It's such an interesting take on fantasy. Tricky Princess is no exception. The world building of Hel, the characters...it was all just so good. I flew through this book and didn't want to put it down.
If you like: - Fantasy romance - Great world building - A STRONG lead female - A lead male that only builds her up. - Shadow play ;) - Spice
This book is for you! Tricky Magic is required to be read prior to picking up this beauty but you can thank me later! Free on KU. Worth the book trophy.
I absolutely loved this sequel! I really enjoy a good “I must go track down my girlfriend from Hell” plot line. Ros is determined to find Ellea after being taken from him by his father, the King of Hel. I really enjoyed Azzy and Ellea’s friendship during her time in Hel. It was adorable how he was always helping her and training her to be better. Their back and forth is fun to read about and how Ellea was able to soften him up. It was hilarious to see Ros come save her and she is just hanging out reading with his dad.
The entire book is a fun read. So much action is happening throughout the entire book. Ellea is becoming even more badass and you learn about more powers she has and where she came from. Her mother is still out to get her and she needs to kill her to make it safe for the world.
That ending! I squealed. I just really love Ros and Ellea. I can’t wait for book 3! Thank you L.L. Campbell for giving me this ARC to read!
Tricky Princess ARC by @readsbylexi spoiler free review! Thanks again for the ARC 😘
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶🌶
Read this book if you love: 🔮Urban, dark fantasy 🔮Werewolves, demons, witches, vampires, Hel hounds, familiars 🔮Really, really, really steamy scenes involving shadows 🔮Found Family 🔮Who did this to you? And Touch her and you die vibes *Please read Trigger warnings prior to reading this series!
Quotes I loved:
🔮”No magic is dark or bad. It’s the people who wield it for their evil reasons.”
🔮”What kind of beast was she? Perhaps a blackbird, bringing death and shrouded in mystery. A hound, vigilante and strong, with shady teeth and claws? Or was she a snake, cunning and seeking answers no matter the cost?”
🔮”We’re in Hel, for f*ck’s sake. I’m in Hel with you, and I’m not going anywhere.”
Tricky Princess picks up right where Tricky Magic left off! Ellea and Rosier travel to Hel (which was the best setting!) and we get to meet all new characters! I loved Duhne, Florence, Daddy Azzy, Reaver and Sebastian. My love for Sam, Devon, Billy and Garm only grew stronger with this book. I also loved the inspiration from Norse mythology. You could tell this book was definitely setting up the plot for the next one, and I am so excited. I can’t wait to continue Ros and Ellea’s steamy, action packed and romantic journey! Tricky Princess is available for preorder now!
Spice: 3.5🌶 TW: graphic sex scenes, somnophilia, FFFM, talk of emotional abuse, killing, parental loss, swearing.
I will try to keep my review spoiler free but if you haven't read Tricky Magic already then you should skip my review. • • I loved Ellea's time in Hel training with Azzy and Florence and just all of her experiences there! Her character growth really shines in this book and we love to see it.
The friend group/ found family of Ellea, Ros, Sam, Devon, Billy and Garm continues to be so fucking cute and gets the addition of Ros' father, Azzy ( think demon Oscar Issac🥵😍)
The spice/romance with Roz and Ellea🤌🏻💋*chefs kiss*
I also really liked the added world building and lore of the Hel realm and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book with where Tricky Princess left us at!
5 stars for Tricky Princess by LL Campbell—aka the sequel that ate and left no crumbs.
Book two takes everything I loved from the first and cranks it up: higher stakes, sharper banter, spicier scenes, and character development that had me emotionally invested. Ellea’s really coming into her own—fierce, vulnerable, still rocking that chaotic good energy—and Ros? Our favorite shadow daddy is showing layers, people. GRUMPY. PROTECTIVE. SOFT. A menace with a heart, and I am living for it.
Their bond deepens, the tension simmers, and the found family vibes with those fierce side characters (yes, the queer rep continues to slay) just tie it all together.
If you loved Tricky Magic, Tricky Princess will make you want to reread both immediately. This series is giving fantasy, spice, and emotional depth – and I’m devouring every shadow-drenched page.
What an amazing sequel! Thankyou to the author for an advanced copy of this.
The story picks up right where book 1 ended, and it doesn't dissapoint.
Ros, Garm, Billy, Devon and Sam make the perfect dysfunctional team, the group dynamic was equal parts hilarious and badass.
The world building in this book was marvellous. I loved getting more insight into Ros' past- Hello Daddy Azzy👀 and seeing more of hell and the workings of its court.
Ellea and Ros have some ups and downs in this book, but I am here for their make up sessions! Their growth as a couple is both hot and sweet. And we get a look at Ros' demon side! "ꜱʜᴇ ᴡʀᴀᴘᴘᴇᴅ ᴀ ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ʜᴀɴᴅ ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴏɴᴇ ᴏꜰ ʜɪꜱ ʜᴏʀɴꜱ, ʜᴇ ꜱʜᴜᴅᴅᴇʀᴇᴅ."
I can't wait to see how the story continues.

Like Tricky Magic, Tricky Princess is the perfect read for spooky season. This book had the perfect combo of spice, humor and interesting plot. I really liked how the author managed to go from humorous to serious throughout this book without the contrast seeming jarring or off in any way. And Ros and Ellea’s relationship is epic. The two are polar opposites, but also compliment each other. I’m just so excited to see where their story goes next now that all the key players seem to be in place.
