This is the first self-hypnosis meditation that I've experienced with Dr. Gurgevich. I found his voice very soothing and found a deeper level of relaxation than I've been able to maintain before with other instructors. I was a bit nervous about the hypnosis component of this at first, but Gurgevich introduced the concept in a professional and easy to understand manner.

One of the side benefits of this that I wasn't expecting is that I'm able to relax more completely and simply by introducing key phrases from the session with Gurgevich into my mind during the day and my body remembers the practice and relaxes. It's hard to describe but wonderful to experience.

I'd recommend this to anyone who needs more relaxation in their life. The meditations are simple to follow and the results speak for themselves.

Really like this audiobook. It starts with the premise behind the relaxation response, citing Herbert Benson and Andrew Weil, among others. The introduction is followed by multiple sessions of varying lengths and imagery, so you can choose the one you like best at that moment. I don't know about the "self hypnosis" part; it just feels like a guided meditation to me. I find it very useful, and have been trying to take time to do it each day (like a "prescription"), even when I don't feel like it. Some days my mind wanders, and I feel anxious, but afterwards I find a sense of accomplishment for sticking with it. Most days, though, I can get into it, and I feel more relaxed & refreshed afterwards. The awareness of tension in the body during the sessions has also helped me recognize this tension throughout the day (i.e., while driving) and I am getting better at eliciting a "mini" relaxation response and letting go of tense muscles.

i found the author's voice annoying and his visualization exercises alternately bored me to tears and made me anxious. it's not soothing to imagine yourself falling off a boat in the middle of nowhere and washing up alone on an island. It's a movie plot from castaway!
