I used to think I didn’t have a family. Now I know they’re all dead because of me.
After half a year in the magical world, I’ve finally unleashed my magic. It only took sending a demon back to hell and almost dying.
Too bad I can’t seem to control it in the slightest, or shake the Council's suspicions about what happened on Samhain. Not to mention, they think I'm behind the sudden increase in demon gates.
I’d like to say they’re wrong, but I still haven’t figured out why my mother was so hellbent on keeping me hidden, or so afraid of releasing my magic. Though something tells me it may have to do with a new disturbing skill I’ve discovered...
A Witch in Darkness is the second book in the Runic Magical Academy Series.
Cora is such a blast to read. Her snark and sass are just as fun in book 2 as they were in book 1. Except now, the stakes have climbed and the romantic tension is 'on edge' (you'll get this joke once you read it. Which you should go do. Like right now. Why are you still looking at this review?). This is all the witchy, magical school, sassy love chemistry that you've been searching for.
Another great book to the series! The author once again brings strong characters and weaves a story that had me glued to the pages right to the end. She does a wonderful job moving the story fluidly with her detailed and descriptive scenes as she delivers another terrific read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
When it seems like Cora has maybe resolved some of the issues keeping her from integrating into her new magical life, a demon portal shows up to turn her life upside down again. This story starts out with a bang and keeps you hooked all the way through!
Book 2 gave us some of the answers I was looking for after book 1, but there's still a lot to figure out in future books as well!
I can't give it more than three stars because of the grammar and inconsistencies. This book has so much potential, yet the amount of grammar issues killed the intensity. Many sentences were missing a word or had extra words. Some of the sentences made me feel like the author was contemplating two words for one spot and forgot to pick one, leaving both behind to irritate and annoy. Copy edit, for goodness sake!
For my clean readers: violence-this is a book of witches. There are dark arts here, so if that's not your thing, don't read it. Murder, kidnapping, attempted sacrifice, etc. Romance-kissing, kissing, and more kissing. Language-a bit, but no f-bomb.
I am enjoying this pnr, magic academy story. However, this volume is almost painfully slow. Several times I was tempted to just jump to the end to discover what was going on. I didn't, but it was a slog. Even now at the end, we still don't know who or what the heroine is. Way too much angst and drama, not enough plot development. The series so far is quite well written otherwise, intelligent and well edited. I'm hoping for some romance and answers in the next one.
