Every great Mackenzie mystery begins with a knock at the door. Someone's arrived at his office with a problem. A lost dog, a lost spouse, a lost innocence!
This time, however, his callers are the police, and it's Mackenzie who has the problem. Two people have been murdered and Mackenzie is the primary suspect. Mackenzie, Ronnie, and Manny must take on their most important client yet -- Mackenzie himself.
I knew as I started that I would be losing sleep because I could not put the book down. Mack is in trouble and his family gathers around to help. And he needs all the help he can get on this mystery. Love Mack and Manny and if they were visiting I would need 2 weeks to scrub my house. ♥️♥️
I’ve loved this series since the first book was released. Mackenzie August and his “family” are easy to love. Smart, funny and loyal to each other. The stories never disappoint and the characters continue to grow. Can’t wait for the next one. Keep writing, Alan!
Mackenzie August delivers timely philosophy as well as great detective work. There's actual thinking behind his character that gets the reader thinking too. Interesting plots, strong characters, skillful writing. Bring on more, Mr. Lee!
I would read Mackenzie August books just so I can hear life inside their house. They wouldn't have to investigate, just have a normal day. To be a fly on that wall...
Mackenzie and his family are all great characters. Mackenzie being and honest gentleman in a rough world and his truest friend Manny all go together so well you can't stop reading when you start. These books don't come out even close to fast enough.
The villain was certainly a surprise, and I loved the intricacies involved in this tale. Mackenzie and his gang were all on top of their games. Have I previously said how much I adore Manny? If not, I adore Manny!
Great story. Didn’t see the ending. Made myself read slower because I didn’t want to miss some of this great humor and sarcasm. In fact, after reading the first chapter, I went back and reread it out loud to my husband.
So excited to read Book 10... you do not disappoint...started this morning and finished just now. I love Mackenzie, his humor, his dialogue with Kix and his “family”. Not to mention is vocabulary. Keep writing. Just fantastic!
The Mackenzie August saga continues, and is as entertaining as ever
Ten books into the series and the series created by Alan Lee remains as fresh as volume one. The ensemble cast of characters are always a treat to meet again.
If you want to read a novel that catches your interest right away but also has humanity and humor, read Alan Lee books. At the least , start out with his 4 book collections…1 through 8. You will be caught up…just like me. Happy reading!
This series continues to get better. The characters are developed nicely. People you care about. The story line is well written with plenty of suspense and twists. One of the best things about this series is that both Mack and Manny are consistently honorable men. I have read all of the books by Alan Lee and have never been disappointed. Highly recommended.
The repertoire among all the family is hilarious, especially Mackenzie and Manny. Such loyalty and love. Even Kix is getting in on the action. The women are beautiful and strong and the men are secure. Just a fun read.
An impossible situation. Two men have been murdered, there is no apparent connection between them except for the same killer’s DNA. Whose? Mack’s, and that’s not the only thing that has led the police to Mack’s door. Ronnie is frantic, Manny is determined to get to the bottom of it, Stackhouse and Timothy are numb, and Kix is, well, Kix. Ronnie assumes her attorney roll, Stackhouse reverts to sheriff, Timothy has decided to put Kix to bed upstairs. It only gets worse from there, and the police, knowing they have their man, are not interested in doing a real investigation. Mack was carted off to jail, booked, and put into the prison population, where he met a couple of old acquaintances and a giant of a man who never loses a fight. Ronnie sprang Mack on Monday morning, and at that point it was up to Mack and Manny to put the pieces together to prove Mack’s innocence.
I started reading this book one evening and couldn’t put it down. The whole scenario was impossible, but there it was. The evidence was conclusive, it seemed, Mack didn’t have a verifiable alibi for the times in question, and even Ronnie wasn’t sure she could believe Mack. If you have read any of the Mackenzie August stories be sure not to miss this one. If you are new to the series, go back and read from the beginning. There is so much background to this story I can’t begin to fill you in. Be assured, though, you’re going to love the stories.
Like many of the people who have left great reviews for this book I have read all of Mr. Lee's books. I like them all but Mackenzie August series is my favorite. I was a bit concerned when I read the last one. I now am relieved that Mack is back full force. Love him,of course, but all of the characters are so well drawn and consistent through the series. Am especially happy that Ronnie is maturing in her relationship with Mack. Great story, nice ending and a great read. I purchased the book on first day out but I delayed reading it knowing that I would then have to wait for next one. Couldn't wait any longer. Five stars and, sadly, now waiting for next Mack fix.
Just like all the rest of Alan Lee’s books! I love reading about the Mackenzie August family! Mac, a Private Eye, is accused of two murders - and the cops have all the evidence they need. It takes his wife, Ronnie, an attorney; best friend, Manny, a Federal Marshall; the Sheriff, who happens to be dating his dad and Mac’s own cunning to find out just who is framing him. Throw in the usual comedic comments by his son Kix (who doesn’t even talk yet) and you’ve got another winner by Alan Lee!
Another winner. Truly enjoy reading books from this author. Fool for a client had a lot of twists and turns and I really didn't expect the way it ended. Even Mack is not above being accused. It's amazing how easily a man of his character is accused and thought to be a criminal. If this can happen to Mack, what chance do we mere mortals have.
It was an easy read and hard to put down. I just had to find out who did what... Looking forward to the next book and highly recommend you read this book.
This book was phenomenal can't wait for the next one to come out. I couldn't put this book down. Love to see Manny and Beck make a go of it. He really does deserve his own family however Mackenzie and Manny have the ultimate bromance of all time going. Manny is the one in these books that gives Mackenzie swag. Truly enjoy the commentary from Kix he also helps give his Dad swag. Write faster!!!
During the pandemic, I have read over 150 books, from apocalyptic, end-of-the-world thrillers, to Jack Reacher type, one man mercenary, ex-armed forces hero fictions. Some good, some fair, some bad. But I can always count on Alan Lee’s Makenzie and/or Manny characters to deliver the best dialogue, great plots and unique sub characters. Keep writing, Alan! It will be a sad day when this series comes to an end! Justin R, Texas
If you haven't gotten on board the Alan Lee train what are you waiting for? This was another great thrill ride that kept you on the edge of your seat to the end. Seemed like it would jump the tracks at any time but our heros come through in the end. Waiting to see what happens next!
This is not heavy reading, but it sure is fun! August Mackenzie is being framed, and whoever is doing it is both motivated and good. Meanwhile, he and Manny have to suffer the mediocre cleaning talents of the housekeeper hired by his father. A great romp with some great characters. I can’t wait for the next installment.
A joy to read. Good plot and story moved along nicely. I love Kix, he's very insightful for a toddler. The connection of everyone in the August household and inner circle is perfect and hilarious. Loved that everyone we've come to love showed up in book 10. Keep up the great work.
I finished the book last night. Now I am ready for the next one. I love all the family dynamics, the discussions and especially Kix opinion. The “lemonade” scene was so funny. The plot was good to. I did not figure out the true villain but I did agree with Mack.. if you enjoy humor & murder this is a book you will like
The world of Mackenzie August is full of fun, honor, justice, love, America, and more fun. I can't thank Alan Lee enough for letting the rest of us enjoy being a part of that world.
I have read everything that Alan Lee has published. I have raved so much about Alan's books that my husband is now reading them too. If you haven't read any of his books, get started, you are missing out on some gripping entertainment. Bravo!
Alan can’t write these fast enough or long enough. The mark of a great book is that even when you thoroughly enjoy it you are a little sad it is over. That is how this book was. Very well written, great characters
Alan did it again with a frame up! Mackenzie gets thrown in jail by a detective that should be in jail himself. Check it out. You will enjoy the family fixing another one!
Another great entry in the Mackenzie August series. In this book, Mackenzie must prove himself innocent of three inexplicable crimes. The clock is running…
