Wow, these characters are so f*cked up. Pardon my language but when I tried to find a different way to describe them, I came up empty. I mean, Masato, Kaname and Soichiro are brothers, or actually step-brothers through adoption with no real blood connection to each other. Masato was in love with his adoptive father Kaoru. Kaname was terribly abused as a child and conditioned to the point where he now believes that he needs pain to live - which leads to Kaname having a "love affair" with Masato: Masato sees a replacement for Kaoru in Kaname, Kaname needs Masato to "punish" him. Masato's acquaintances are nuts too: Ogi is obsessed with Kaname and Miroku sleeps with everything that moves because he's convinced that only through sex can he figure out what makes people tick. And now insert the sunny Soichiro who is dragged into this mess - and falls hard for Kaname. Oi!
This volume contains chapters 12-16. And I may have spoke too soon on my review of the last volume. Because while Masato and Kaname were not related by blood, Kaname and Souichiroiu are, and it is beginning to look like Souichiroiu has some feelings for Kaname now. I study Anthropology. It is not uncommon for siblings to have feelings for each other, especially if they did not grow up together. It happens. There are plenty of theories on why it’s such a universal taboo, and the biggest reason is evolutionary: incestuous coupling resulting in children can cause deleterious genes, unharmful alone, to cause mishaps in DNA. But there is not children produced between two men. So does this make a situation like this okay? Who knows? I’m probably going too deep into the issue, but reading this series takes me back to the lectures I listened to and material I helped tutor about incest taboos. Why is it such a taboo, everywhere. I don’t dislike this series because of its premise, but there’s still something there that keeps me at a distance. Anywho, props to Kisaragi for pulling it off so well. The series certainly isn’t for everyone. Still, the artwork is great. As for the plot in this volume itself. I thought it lost some of the power it had in the first and second volume. It picked it up a little I the second half of the volume. I suppose it was due to the transition. I’m sure I will be picking up the next book soon.
For helping Souichirou find Kaname’s old house, Director Ogi wants to get Kaname in the movie if he can - Kaname’s going for counselling for his PTSD - there’s a new big actor on the set of the movie they’re filming, named Tachibana Miroku whose kind of assholeish but hella pretty& Masato tells him to stay away from Souichirou but he goes to their house & tries having sex with Souichirou until MAsato & Kaname show up & Masato drags Tachibana away but then TACHIBANA KISSES SOUICHIROU OMG & KANAME’S HURT BY THAT :O :( AWW then hSouichirou’s distracted at the movie set - Souichirou confronts Kaname & they fight & Souichirou realizes his weird feelings for KAname & goes off, kinda confused. & the next day, he talks to MAsato & tells him he’s fallen in love with Kaname & Masato isn’t surprised, superior older brother that he is HAHAH - Tachibana comes to visit Kaname & says he wants Souichirou & all this other shit & KANAME STANDS UP FOR HIMSELF & SAYS HE LIKES SOUISHIROU TOO & WON’T USE PEOPLE BUT WILL TRY TO CHANGE HIMSELF!! - Souichirou rushes home to find Kaname watched the famous movie his mother was in but he hurt his hand & Souichirou tells him he’ll always be by his side & give him everything he needs; happiness & fun things & LOVE

I continue to be surprised by how much I like this series. It helps that despite the title, it isn't incest at all - the "brothers" aren't related by blood, and also didn't even grow up together. (No offense to people who like reading about incest, but it really isn't my thing at all, so I'm just glad I can read this because it's well done and has gorgeous art.) The three "brothers" all are fucked up in their own way - as you say, they don't just have issues, they have the subscription. It's all very dramatic, but it works - since the overall mood is consistent, it never feels overwrought or too much for me. Not the best thing to read if you're in the mood for something fluffy, but if you like drama and angst (and gorgeous art!) this is definitely worth checking out.
Souichirou, with Masato's help, realizes he has feelings for Kaname. Kaname is broken but wants to get better and he is not letting the past control him. I like the strength and fragility he displays, I want him to find happiness and love. Souichirou is a little slow to understand his feelings, but he is so pure hearted and sincere I can't help but like him. A villain is introduced in the form of another actor who wants to seduce Souichirou.
