Aspen Pack #4

Harbored in Silence

Rate this book
A witch on the run who could save the world–or destroy it with one touch

I am who they fear.

The Harvester Death Witch.

The one who holds the power of their fate in my hands.

Or at least…that’s what they whisper.

The coven has fallen. The vampires are circling our den. And if we don’t find new allies, our Pack won’t be able to fight much longer.

On my Alpha’s orders, I must find others who hide beneath the shadows for not only our protection, but theirs as well.

Only I’m not alone on my mission.

I brought Cruz back from death once before, and though I know the goddess forbids it, I’d do it again.

Because he’s my mate.

And my ending.

Holy Cow Carrie Ann didn’t pull any punches with Cruz and Dara’s Story; we get it all, even a peek at the other side!

Dara is a Harvester Death Witch, and Cruz is a wolf shifter; their bond is more than fated mates…so much more. I wish I could tell you but I don't do spoilers because I always believe you should go into the book without knowing what happens other than what is made available in the blurb. I do, however, give trigger warnings if needed. So you won't get anything from me other than this is by far my favorite of the series to date, and that is saying something since I have been enjoying this series.

Harbored in Silence is book four in Carrie Ann Ryan’s Aspen Pack series and WOW this series!

Dara is a Harvester Death witch that brought Cruz, Heir to The Aspen Pack, back from the dead so now their lives are linked. With vampires closing in on their pack, the coven broken and Dara’s magic failing these two set out on a roadtrip to find more witches to help save their pack.

Harbored in Silence is everything I want in a Carrie Ann Ryan PNR so many twists and turns, fighting, snarky characters and steam. Dara and Cruz are a perfect couple, they have great chemistry! His protectiveness of her and her need to save the pack seem to be at odds but together they are stronger. I love the mystery of fulfilling a prophecy, going on a road trip, catching up with old friends, making new friends, vampires, and a human (or two). Secrets are revealed and a past wrong is righted!

Thank you to the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts are my own Harbored in Silence has a pub date of May 22, 2023.

I was thoroughly enjoying this book, thinking I had a clue how it was going to go, and then it just took off, and I could barely hang from all that was happening! Cruz and Dara have had some happenings between them in previous books in the series, so I was pretty happy to get their story. It took some turns I was not expecting, and just when I thought, okay, that was it, a huge thing happened, and I was gasp sobbing all over the place (in a good way!). Loved that these two finally were able to get their HEA and relief from all the pain and suffering that they have been experiencing. Even better, the big bad is now exposed, and the forces to fight it, just got exponentially stronger <3

We’ve been waiting a long time to find out the consequences of Dara’s choice to save Cruz and now we will finally know the full story. I am a huge fan of Carrie Ann Ryan, and have been for a long time, and I love her paranormal romances almost as much as her sexy inked contemporaries. For those who love a gritty, sometime tragic, but always exciting story of two people that shouldn’t work, but always seem to find a way to blend into a perfect couple (or something triad), Ryan’s romances just have a way of hitting you in the heart that is irresistible. Dara and Cruz’s story is a perfect example and introduces a few new interesting characters that I can imagine are going to be very important in the coming stories in the series. I loved every moment of the story, even when they were fighting with one another, but as Crux and Dara found a way to open their hearts and mind to a life and love together the story become even more beautiful, and I couldn’t put it down for a second. I am dying for the next story now that we’ve met the heroine and seen the connection beginning with her hero, but I just know that Carrie Ann will be throwing them (and her readers) for a loop before they find their HEA. Another masterpiece for sure.

Dara is dying, there’s no two ways about it, but she is determined to free Crux from the bond that developed when she pulled him back from the dead and save her pack before she does. Though Cruz knows she is a potential mate, they are both fighting their connection and their fates because of their past, but when their enemies continue to pile up, the time to resist comes to an end. When Dara presents and idea to the Alpha to bring in more of her fellow witches, other outcasts that the Coven don’t acknowledge, Cruz is tasked with keeping her safe as she works to add more protections to the Pack. But as they work to bring in Witches, their unseen enemy is out to kill Dara and Cruz has to do everything in his power to keep her safe. The more time they spend together uncovering long-hidden secrets, the harder it is for Cruz and Dara to deny their feelings, but can a Death Witch and sexy Wolf find a way to survive their enemies and overcome death itself in order to have a future together?

I absolutely loved Dara’s story as we watched her struggling with her powers, her past, and her hopes for the future. She is such a dynamic and interesting character, one with deep vulnerabilities and fears, but such strength, intelligence, and leadership quality even if she doesn’t always see it in herself. Her interactions with her old friends showed how much she had evolved as she found her strength with the help of her packmates, and it was amazing to see her grow even more as she acknowledged her love for Cruz and hope for a future she never thought she would get to have. Cruz is obviously seriously conflicted throughout the majority of the story, his emotions so wrapped up in his wolf’s need for Dara, but his human intellect trying to tell him something wasn’t quit right with their connection. The more time he spends with her, getting to know different sides of the interesting Witch that intrigues both sides of his nature, the more certain he becomes she is his mate and when he gets her in his arms there is no more denial. He is strong, grumpy (in the sweetest ways), protective, loving, and when the rug gets pulled out from under him (repeatedly) he is able to bounce back with grace. The passion between these two has been a not-very-subtle undercurrent for most of the series, but once they are focused on one another that explodes into a flash fire that could burn the world down. I loved their love story and was so glad they found a way through al the tragedy, drama, and pain to the love that would sustain them and hold them steady through it all. No doubt the next book will be even more dramatic, now that the Pack knows exactly who their enemy is, but I cannot wait. Filled with magic, passion, and secrets uncovered Harbored in Silence will leave you breathless, guaranteed.

This is book 4 in the Aspen Pack series, Cruz and Dara’s story.

I love how they make the most perfect couple, but it’s only when they are together that they realize how strong they are. We’ve had a bit of their story previously and just loved how it all worked out in the end for them to get their HEA.

Paranormal stories are my jam and Carrie Ann does such an amazing job at how she weaves her stories. We get so much suspense, drama, lots of action and of course some very hot scenes. I am eagerly anticipating the next installment and where it takes us.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I've got to admit to not have listened to/read the previous books in this series meaning that at first I was a bit confused.

However the story of Dara and Cruz captures attention so forcefully that I accepted that there were things I'd come to understand throughout the book/series which, of course, I'm now seriously hooked on.

The story of this mated pair was different to other shifter books and I loved that Dara was a witch...and her power...WOW!

I look forward to discovering where this series goes next...although I'm fairly sure I have an idea. Still, the anticipation is real!

Absolutely amazing audible book and Carrie Ann Ryan does amazing job picking the right narrators for these characters. Absolutely love the twist of a Harvester death which which is different to other characters that have been introduced into the series. Really loved how actions that she took messed with her mate and the made bond really liked the aspect of that and how it got developed.
If you are starting with Carrie Ann Ryan and not sure where to start Redwood Park is where I started and it is a great place to begin. Specially if you do it in audiobook because Carrie Ann Ryan picked the best for each character, and it is worth every penny.

Harbored in Silence by Carrie Ann Ryan is part of the Aspen Pack series, book 4, and I do suggest reading this series in order to truly enjoy it. This is Dara and Cruz’s story. These two have a strong connection and are mates. She is a very formidable witch and when she makes a decision that involves Cruz, they are forever connected. Though they fight it every step of the way. Cruz is tasked with protecting her when they set out to find help for their pack. As they spend time together, it becomes harder to avoid their connection. Their journey is not easy and danger surrounds them, but I loved seeing their connection blossom and seeing the strength in the pack. So excited to see what is coming next.

Happy reading!

My review is written after listening to the audio version of this book.

This fourth book tells Cruz and Dara's story and picks up the story almost from where Mated in Chaos left off following the Vampire attack led by Valik and all that entailed. This series should be read in the correct order as the stories do follow each other.

Dara is a Harvester Death witch a member of the Pack but not the Coven, and Cruz is the Heir to the Aspen pack. They seem such an unlikely couple but don't let that deter you, they are certainly connected but despite feeling a real attraction to each other they seem unable to acknowledge or act on their mate bond. But when the Coven is destroyed and Dara realises that the only way to save the Pack is to form a new Coven, made up of witches rejected and forced into hiding by the coven, just like Dara was the Council agrees that she should go and locate them. Cruz is assigned to go with her to keep her safe but obviously being in such close confines means they are forced to face the reality of their connection.

I was very quickly immersed in this story about fated mates, vampires, dark magic, and a traitorous evil force lurking in the shadows, killing witches and stealing their power. It's also a story of loyalty and love, heartbreak and sadness that brought tears to my eyes - in short, this story has everything. The characters some of whom will be familiar to you if you've read the earlier books or the Redwoods or Talons series are so well described, that they feel real, and the tension between Cruz and Dara was palpable.

I loved their journey together, a journey where they are forced to face their deepening feelings and truths long buried are revealed. The more you listen the more entranced you become Nothing and no one is what they seem and the twists and turns the story took did at times bring tears to my eyes. Their story has drama, action, and danger to go along with their deepening love and incredible chemistry. I was on the edge of my seat, as I followed along with all the intricacies of their lives. I loved the new characters introduced during their journey and the forming of the new Coven.

The narration of this book by Kit Swann and Aiden Snow is so well done, each character is brought to life beautifully, and every emotion is there to feel in the voices of these talented actors. Thank you so much for making listening to this story such an enjoyable experience.

Harbored In Silence is the fourth installment in the Aspen Pack series, by Carrie Ann Ryan. Like always, I recommend reading the series in order to get the most out of it. For readers that know a little backstory, Cruz and Dara’s book is here and it is everything and more than what you are hoping for.

Dara is the Harvester Death Witch. Cruz, the heir to the Aspen Pack. These two have some things happen in the previous books in the series, so when I finally got my hands on their story I was thrilled. Dara saved Cruz’s life, bringing him back from the dead, now we get the full story of that choice and them becoming mates. As always, C.A.R story’s are one of my most anticipated reads, her books always pull at the heartstrings, and Harbored holds true as well.

Dara is dying, before her death all she wants to do is save her pack, and set Cruz free of the bond that formed when she saved his life. Cruz on the other hand is ordered to keep her safe, with this task they both must fight the mating bond they are feeling. The longer they stay together, however, the stronger their feelings for one another get. Can the two find a future together? Can they save Dara from dying?

C.A.R knows how to write a good paranormal romance, that’s for sure. Cruz is grumpy, and loyal, and no matter who or what Dara is, he can’t help but want her. Dara is a strong woman with a vulnerable heart, she wants to save her pack more than anything else, but with Cruz, their connection sparks to life a passion for a life she knows she can never have. This was a heartwarming story of love, struggle and tragedy. If you are looking for a good paranormal romance, look no further than the Aspen Pack.

Carrie Ann Ryan is one of my top favorite authors so when the opportunity presented itself to be able to read a book that I have been so desperately waiting to for I could not pass it up.

Ever since Dara’s character was introduced in the Aspen Pack series, I have been intrigued with her. She’s a witch but not your ordinary elemental witch, she is a Harvester Death witch and a member of the Pacific Northwest Aspen wolf pack. Although she is pack, she has secrets about her powers that they don’t know about, one of those secrets being the Heir to the Aspen pack, Cruz.

In the middle of a war with vampires Dara comes up with a plan that could help save the pack while aiding them in the coming battles and strengthen the wards that protect their territory. This plan involves a road trip and Dara’s Alpha is not too comfortable with letting her go alone.

“You’re not my Alpha. You don’t get to tell me what to do. So fuck off.”
I smiled as I said it, and Steele whistled between his teeth.

Since Chase can sense the tension between Dara and Cruz he gives Cruz the order to go along with Dara as protection.

During this witch-filled road trip to find Dara’s friends, there are shocking revelations that come to light that may or may not help the explosive sexual tension that’s constantly riding high between these two and all the while an enemy closely follows.

Ryan introduces several new side characters that bring unique and interesting traits to the pack. It was such a delight to step outside of the den to meet these new characters. I’m looking forward to see where Jade and Steele’s story takes us in Marked in Flames.

Carrie Ann Ryan is one of the few authors whose paranormal stories I read all the time because I don't generally read that many on a regular basis. She's so talented at creating a colorful world that could actually exist LOL! Harbored in Silence is the story of Dara, The Harvester Death Witch, and Cruz, the heir apparent of the Aspen Pack, which is quite the doozie. Dara is a Harvester Death Wish, and it's an unique power that keeps any coven from accepting her, but she's tasked with figuring out how to stop the vampires who are about to really unleash chaos. Cruz is the heir apparent of the Aspen Pack, and they have a complication, they're fate mates who have completed that fact as of yet, plus she actually saved his life once before (which was on the forbidden side). Dara is about to go out to find other witches who have no coven for help, and Cruz won't let her go at it alone so off he goes with her. Obviously this means they're in close proximity so maybe just maybe that bond will finally be put into play, however, there's an enemy out there who isn't about to let them find success, so the stakes are raised even higher, and the twists are coming in hot like crazy with a kicker of intense action which had me firmly on the edge of my seat (and I'm just scratching the surface in this review). I'm telling you, this story was crazy good, and impossible to put down once opened so I've been left in quite the intense book hangover which means I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

**Audiobook Review**

I’m loving this PNR series from Carrie Ann Ryan. Each installment adds another layer to the storyline and I can’t get enough. “Harbored in Silence” is an action packed, thrilling and steamy addition to the series and I loved Dara and Cruz.

Dara is one of the Aspen Pack witches and she’s been working hard with the pack to stop the attack that has been happening to them. Ordered by her Alpha, Dara goes outside the pack and coven to find witches to help her. And going with her is the one who is meant to be her but can’t, Cruz. The two have an underlying chemistry but some problems with their past have been keeping them apart.

I loved Dara and Cruz so much and I could not put their story down. I was drawn in from the very beginning and I loved the underlying need they had for each other. They were truly fated mates and I loved listening to them finding their way to each other. Dara had sacrificed herself for Cruz to save him and I know without a doubt, he would have done the same thing for her. I loved their banter and the need they have for each other. So much happened in this story and we got even more clues on how they could stop the vampires from taking over. There are so many twists and turns that made this into an amazing book.

Aiden Snow and Kit Swann were perfect as Cruz and Dara. Both brought so much passion to their narration and I loved listening to them together.

Cruz is the Heir to the Aspen Pack, and Dara is a Harvester Death witch. Cruz and Dara are packmates and potential mates but deny their growing feelings for each other. Dara and Cruz are bonded together after Dara brings Cruz back from death. Dara and Cruz are sent on a mission to gather outcast witches who can form a new coven and help strengthen the pack. While Dara and Cruz search for allies, an enemy strikes out trying to kill Dara. Will Cruz be able to keep Dara safe from an enemy that wants to see her dead? How does Cruz react when he voices his concern that his bond with Dara is killing her? How does Cruz react when he finds out who is father is and learns his memories are lies? How will Dara, Cruz, and the rest of the pack react when they learn someone they mourned is alive and a traitor? What happens when Cruz sacrifices himself a second time for Dara? I LOVED Harbored in Silence by Carrie Ann Ryan. Dara and Cruz are a great couple with amazing chemistry. I loved how Dara embraced her powers and became stronger through her connection with Cruz. I loved the way Cruz deals with his past and the truth of his lineage. Harbored in Silence has twists and turns that will keep the reader on the edge of their seats. I would highly recommend getting Harbored in Silence and the other books in the Aspen Pack series by Carrie Ann Ryan. I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

4 1/2 stars
4th book in series
Narrator Kit Swann & Aiden Snow

This book follows Dara & Cruz’s journey. Cruz confronts Dara, he wants to know why she doesn’t acknowledge that they’re mates. She ignores it.
Dara goes to the coven to plea for help one last time & finds the entire coven gone.
The Goddess speaks of a prophecy regarding righting wrongs as only one of the purposes they must fulfill.
Dara & Cruz go to find other witches Dara knows from her past. Someone is following, unbeknownst to them. The person attacks them at every house they go to & kills one of Dara’s witch friends. Another witch friend reveals a secret to Cruz that changes everything.
The pack finds out a person from their past is the one helping the demon, Malthus. She’s also using the humans to help take down the shifters.
When Cruz is hurt in battle, Dara saves him & brings a few people from the past back with them.
The pack agrees to look for other allies to help fight the demon & the vampires. The witches can feel something wrong with the pack bonds.
Will Dara & Cruz finally admit their feelings for one another? Will they become mates? Who is the person helping Malthus? What’s wrong with pack bonds?
I really like the book. I like Cruz’s & Dara’s banter, playfulness with each other. I also liked how each were fiercely protective of the other. It was an action packed book. It gave me all the feels.

I voluntarily reviewed "HARBORED IN SILENCE"
This story was so well written you were hooked from the start with so much mystery, intrigue, danger, angst, violence, murder, steam, suspense, twists that has you turning the pages in this action packed paranormal story.
Dara Black is a Harvester of Death Witch who's trying to figure out how keep the Poisonous Vampire magic from getting through their wards killing, she takes Wren & Wynter with her to the Coven to convince them to help, but the horror that greeted them when they got there was shocking.
Dara & Cruz go to see Declan a very powerful witch she knows will help them out but while there they were attacked by unknown Dara had brought Cruz back from death once before against the goddess's wishes, their mates but after what she did that can't mate & survive or do she thinks.
I definitely recommend to get this interesting, mysterious story especially when the goddess speaks directly to Dara with a criptic message Chase wants to know more about, will Dara & Cruz get their HEA, will they find witches to help them in this battle its a must read you don't want to miss.
I'm looking forward to the next book in Aspen Pack Series "MARKED FLAMES" it's "STEELE & JADE'S" story with great characters that pull you right into all drama I loved it 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤

This series is going from strength to strength. I've loved all the bonds so far. But Dara and Cruz in this book are my favourite. I've wanted to know the Harvester Death Witch's story and know her burdens. She has been the power behind the pack's defenses and she has protected them without anyone to share the weight with.

Dara and Cruz's souls are tangled. She saved him and brought him back from death resulting in a connection but not a bond. They are denying their mate call. But their hearts and souls yearn for one another.

I loved that this book takes the characters outside the pack. The previous books have hinted at the pack needing more support from magic users. This was Dara's opportunity to find her misplaced witch friends and offer them a place within her new Coven. You get a sense of the growing power in these friends working together against the threat heading in the pack's direction.

You get enough of a taste of what is to come to be worried for our favourite shifters, witches and humans. Lily may just be the start of their worries. This is a beautifully detailed and complex shifter romance with fated mates and the interplay between other mystical powers and threats.

Since the beginning of the Aspen Pack series, Dara and Cruz have intrigued me. The secondary characters always interest me, because I know many will have their own stories told...it's just a matter of who is paired together.
It was definitely written in the stars that these two would be mates, especially since Dara saved Cruz from death, using her harvester death witch powers. Those powers intrigued me as well, because while elemental witches have been a part of many CAR books, I'm not sure we've seen one like Dara before.
And what makes this book one of my very favorites is that as much as the bad stuff...vamps, demons, war, destruction...was going on, the central story was focused on Dara and Cruz themselves. We got background on them both as individuals...watch for surprises, ya'll!...but also their couple story was front and center. Just where it deserved to be and what I wanted to read above all else. Because while I loved the series as a whole and the other books individually, Harbored in Silence, and Cruz and Dara, were the draw for me. Chemistry that burned hot, a connection that couldn't be denied and a destiny no one, not even the Moon Goddess herself, could stop.
Worth all the stars in the sky, not just 5.

Dara is the Harvester Death Witch and Cruz the Aspen Pack Heir. We've been getting hints on them in previous books, and as their story opens we know that Dara brought Cruz back to life, and that they know they are mates, but have been fighting their pull to each other. They embark on a quest, to help save their pack, to seek out additional witches Dara know and bring them back in to the pack to help strengthen the pack. Dara and Cruz have both been through a lot and their story is not an easy one, especially in light of the danger the pack faces. We get a lot of twists and turns along the way, especially a big one towards the end that I definitely didn't see coming, and I'm curious to see how things play out in the next book. I also enjoyed getting to see this world outside the packs as Dara and Cruz were traveling to locate Dara's friends to join in their fight.

Usually these books are interconnected standalones, but I think this one would be a little hard to jump into without having read at least the one that came before it, Mated in Chaos. There was a final scene in there that has critical information that is helpful when starting Harbored in Silence.

This series is so good.
And it gets better and more gripping with each book.
Harbored in Silence on me on the edge of my seat almost throughout the book.
Flipping the pages as fast as I could possibly read. It kept me hooked from beginning to end.
I loved Dara and Cruz’s story.
The pain and anguish they go through broke my heart.
Knowing that they are mates. But not being able to fully complete the bonding.
Because death is at their heals.
Cruz and Dara silently vow to find a solution to Dara’s impending death since bringing Cruz make to life. While trying to keep the pack safe. Trying to bring together witches for a new coven.
And fight the vampires and the hidden enemy leading the fight.
While Cruz and Dara could not bond and fulfill the mating process.
Their love was real and unconditionally. They found strength and determination in each other.
They trusted and depended on one another in all ways and that made them that just more special.
The story is gripping, thrilling and sexy.
Secrets and betrayal that cut deep that no one saw coming.
I can’t wait for the next book!

Dara, finally she gets her own book!! It was fascinating learning all about her history and more about how her magic works. She is so feisty and sassy I’m so glad that she is forced to go on her mission with Cruz! They she been fighting their feelings for each other it was time for them to be together for an extended period of time to work it out and figure out what is going on! And let’s just say that the mission like all other missions never goes the way they think it’s gonna go. More curveballs, more mysteries, more things that make you just stand there and go “what just happened?!” Nothing with the Aspen Pack is ever easy and lord Dara has been through the ringer. But the moon goddess in all of her infinite wisdom made it all work out. Dara and Cruz finally got their happily ever after. They definitely deserve it they are absolutely perfect for each other. They balance each another out. I can not recommend this book enough. I can not wait for the next book in the series to see how the battle is going to continue to unfold for the Packs.

I am so hooked on the Aspen Pack series, and yet again, Carrie Ann Ryan unleashed another spine-tingling couple the mating bond is calling, yet they can't act on it, which makes this complex romance even more enthralling, because we all know the more it is denied the more the passion raises, amidst the growing danger and tragedy that the vampires are creating that is surrounding not only one pack but all shifters the death witch Dara who brought Cruz the Alphas second in command back to life once cannot deny the bond that is growing between them, Cruz and his wolf are trying to not push the mating bond both cannot stop the explosive chemistry between them, secrets will be revealed and, lives will be lost in this 4th epic instalment, ones that although I didn't see coming I should have expected from the wonderful Ms Ryan, no matter what genre she writes she always delivers 5* reads, time and time again,

WOW! It’s been a while since I have read a good paranormal romance. Harbored in Silence by Carrie Ann Ryan is a stand-alone read and book four of the Aspen pack. There is all sorts of drama and naughty, hot sex. There is also some Witches, Shifters and Vampires oh my! The story takes place in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and really does a great job telling the supernatural story of the packs and covens. Harbored in Silence is action packed with lots of secrets that slowly get revealed, leaving the reader hanging on the edge of their seat. As stated previously this is a stand-alone read but with so many characters (at times I had to go back and look up who someone was) it would be much more entertaining if I had read the previously written stories. So, in other words my paranormal friends…. read the other books in the series for an exciting, crazy and sexy good time. 5 magical stars for Harbored in Silence by Carrie Ann Ryan.

Cruz and Dara.
What an awesome addition to this series, well written, great storyline with a few twist and turns, with awesome characters, some new ones and old ones. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Definitely worth the read in my humble opinion.

Cruz the heir to the Aspen pack and Dara a harvester death witch are sent on a mission to find her hidden friends, fellow witches who are in hiding for a reason. The Coven that rejected them has fallen no one is safe. Dara must convince them to come together, allies to fight against the evil….
Cruz along for the trip with one goal in mind, keep his Dara safe. They have a bond, it should be because they are mates, instead it’s the bond that formed when she brought him back from death.
Cruz ends up finding more than he bargained for, the truth from a long hidden secret…..

Audiobook review

As the pack continues to fight the vampires and the evil that helps them Dara and Cruz try to come to terms with what they know is their fate. They look to friends and allies for help but it may not be enough. Dara and Cruz cannot fight what they feel and ignoring it won’t make it go away.
I enjoyed their story. The two are good together and I was happy to be along for the ride. The author continues to move this series along without making it drag on. Each new couple brings more to this world and it is nice to see the way the packs are learning and growing as they fight the evil. Cruz and Dara are both strong people and it was nice to see the way they interacted and how much love they have for each other. I truly enjoyed this story and am eager for more from this world. Narrators Aiden Snow and Kit Swan once again to a great job of bringing out the characters emotions and pulling the reader into the story.

The war is closer than ever and Dara thinks she has the key to saving all the packs. Though not mated, Cruz knows there is a bond with Dara that no one else realizes is there. Dara can hide her pain and anguish from the pack, but never from Cruz. Dara has a plan to save the pack, but she must find the witches from her past first. Dara and Cruz set out to find help for the pack and along the way they find what they truly are to each other. They find shocking new information about their enemies, a past that was hidden behind a dark spell, a betrayal they never saw coming, new allies and finally the name of demon pulling the strings. Dara will have to fully embrace who she is in order to save the pack, and to save her mate. The suspense and drama just keeps mounting with each new book and I can't wait for Jade and Steele's book!!

This is the first book I have read the “Aspen Pack” series, so it took me awhile to get the plot and characters straight in my mind - I recommend reading the series in order rather than attempt it as a standalone. As for Harbored in Silence, it is not my favorite CAR book; this one moved too quickly. Too much was happening in too short of a time frame and I felt that based on the previous books (which I read after this one) and other series, that there could have been more build up between the events happening. That being said, the FMC Dara is a total badass and I have a girl crush on her. And Cruz, as well as the other shifters, are the dominant personalities I love and expect from Carrie Ann Ryan.
I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.

5 stars all the way!

Cruz is the heir to the Alpha. Dara is the witch of death. They are potential mates, but they can never be real mates. This story and continuing series is one of the most original and unique I’ve ever read. Cruz and Dara, and all the other characters of this book are trying to find a way to kill the vampires and humans that are attacking them. Dara forms a witches coven to heighten their powers. There is betrayal in this story from one of their own, or so they thought. Something big happens that has them to be able to be mates. So much action and revelations. Lots of emotions and love, too. But, this story is not over by a long shot. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Woah - this book had alot in it. Dara had brought Cruz back to life in a previous book and that changed things between them and for her. She was a Death Witch and they are potential mates. She is trying to find out how the vampires are getting through the wards and he is giong with her to the old coven to ask for their help. What she finds there shocks both of them. AS they continue on their journey, they grow closer, but she doesn't want to encourage him as she is dying. He is furious when he finds out. There are alot of surprises in this story, about Dara, and Cruz plus who the enemy is. A very involved and fascinating story that is well worth the time.

WHAT A RIDE!!!! Wow. This book completely hooked me. I loved it, read it in one sitting and just did not want it to end. I know the series will continue and I cannot wait! Dara has to pay for her decision to bring Cruz back from death. Is it worth the price? Yes, because she knows he is her mate and she would do it again. Her and Cruz have this back and forth going on. Both have been keeping distance between each other. That stops now. Or it does for Cruz. What will it take for Dara to jump on board with that plan? Oh heck... no spoilers but just know there is a HEA. It is a hard fought for HEA. The story is not over. There are twists and turns and things that left me screaming.....
Bring on the next because I am dying to see how everything plays out.
