“I ignored them. It wasn’t mature in the slightest, but I didn’t know what to say. I’d chosen magic. I’d always choose magic. That wasn’t the question. But it had been nice to have a friend. “Hello. Thank you for calling Hex-A-Gone. This is Rook. How can I help you today?”
A colorful expletive accompanied by shouting, then another expletive. A hair-raising screech followed by another more creative expletive. Then the problem erupted from the caller in a scream. “My daughter has a pig nose!”

“Your eyes are pretty.”
My stomach twisted. “What?”
“Your eyes. They’re very pretty. Like the night sky. Like space. But not the scary space. But the pretty one. With stars.”
