A good book. Ty was one of my favourite characters out of the Rising Storm. I am very happy to see her back and hope there is more of her adventures to come.

The book follows Ty on her adventures as a monster hunter and her past in the Jedi temple. I think Ty's character was shown perfectly. She tries to come across as harsh and a lone wolf, but her compassion always comes through. Also, she is more than willing to lose money on a job (no matter how much she needs the money), in favour of doing what is right.

Good story and artwork. Though I don't like the fact that Jedi seem a lot weaker in then the Disney era, I do like that Ty continues to improve their skills in the field rather than training. I am looking forward to seeing what is next, especially as Ty has someone watching out for her.

An enjoyable and simple read. Although it doesn't directly progress the overarching narrative of The High Republic, it offers a compelling exploration of Ty Yorrick's backstory and the traumatic events that shaped her character. The adventure itself is somewhat predictable, but it remains thoroughly entertaining (reminded me a lot of the short stories of The Witcher).

The artwork is beautiful, and there was also a particularly amusing side character whom I hope to see more of in the future.

Ty Yorrick will return!

Not bad. Again, like how this works on its own without having to tie into all the “part 1 wave 1” stuff. Also, it was a nice introduction to the character because it looks like she’s on the cover of “The Rising Storm.”

Nothing too deep though. Just a nice introduction of characters.

6/10:
Ty Yorrick is a character that I’ve never truly connected with. However, her story during this 4-issue series has allowed her character to grow and become something palatable and somewhat resembling humanity.

Before this, I would’ve said I didn’t care what her future was. Now, I’m interested to see where this Saber for Hire’s story goes!

232 BBY.
Former Jedi Padawan Ty Yorrick attempts to make a living as a monster hunter for hire, but all of her hunts turn out to be more complicated than she initially imagines. On Loreth a group of settlers hire her to kill the terrifying Gretalax but there is more going on than she knows and only by reluctantly tapping into her Jedi training will she discover the truth.

What this book should have been was a proper exploration of Ty's background, why she left the Jedi Order and how those events led her to become a mercenary monster hunter. It would've been really interesting for a High Republic story, when the Jedi are at their zenith, to explore the concept of someone who left the Order but not through having fallen to the dark side.

Instead, we get a series of flashbacks that reveal the general story of how she left the Order but the majority of the book is a pretty formulaic and by-the-numbers story of an antisocial hero who discovers that the monster they were hired to hunt may not be the real monster after all. It's not bad, but it's also entirely predictable and derivative.
(I can't help but wonder, regarding when this was initially published, whether it was attempting to cash-in on the popularity of The Witcher, but for a younger audience).

A perfectly fine Star Wars adventure, but one which studiously avoids treading new ground.

#1: An interesting introduction to this story between the early scene, flashbacks, and actual story. I look forward to seeing how this plays out. I also feel like I love KL-03 and her sass already!

#2: A Zeffo reference is particularly timely for me as I’m currently playing through Fallen Order. While I did like this issue, I feel more intrigued by the backstory than I do about Ty’s current mission. Maybe that’s the intent, but why not just make the comic about the backstory then?

#3: Okay, they got me. What did the monster do? Now I gotta know! I’m glad that the overall story has finally pulled me in, instead of just the backstory!

#4: I wasn’t too impressed at the beginning of this series, but now I’m eager to see where this goes. I am excited to see the continued development of Ty and the relationship between her and Drewen!

I hesitate to write a review for this because I'm afraid it's just going to sound like my reviews for a lot of the other THR material. In this story we get a little more of Ty Yorrick, an interesting character who I fear is never going to be explored in any great depth except for popping up spontaneously in other Star Wars titles whenever it would be cool to see her. It would be a lot easier to have faith in whatever is planned if it wasn't for THR Phase I's track record of having books in the double digits, what feels like hundreds of characters, and only one hand's worth of well-developed character arcs.

An excellently put together mini series yet again sadly let down a bit by indifferent artwork (presumably from the need to put these out on a tight overlapping schedule). This does a great job of recounting Ty Yorrick's back story in a mysterious and engaging way whilst also allowing her personal narrative to push forward into the future, ending with a promise that we'll see more of her. it's too brief to be essential and the macguffin-esque story is a little on the predictable/tired side, but this was a very quick read, very entertaining read and well worth it.

So I got ahold of the British Panini version of this TPB when things were in limbo between IDW and Dark Horse, and I honestly kinda dig the thicker paper and glossier cover.

But as far as content goes, it’s more Cav Scott 🔥. Those of us who read/listened to the Dooku audio drama a few years ago finally get to learn the fate of Klias Teradine, and it was a lot of fun. Plus monster wrangling and Ty Yorrick.

I like stories about the force. I like when stories elaborate on the lore of the force. I like seeing real, breakable characters that allow their emotions to rule them.

This was the last installment of the high republic phase one wave one-- and it opened up so many new doors. They are giving us a lot of characters and their backstories and while that is a lot to digest, I've been writing them down.

A very strong story that left it open for Ty to connect and come to terms with what happened to her friend. Also shows the flaws in the Jedi and their inability to teach their padwans about the dark side of the force to keep them safe. Dark side relics are dangerous, they are basically used as horcruxes, and can transfer essences. But they don't teach that-- to mention the Jedi is taboo.

I love watching the bonding of other beings through the force, and this story shows that. How powerful a bond can be and a creature connected to the force. A lot of this, and the verbiage, and how the story is reminded me of themes in Red Harvest (just hoping we get that story arc or similar.)

“Jedi protect life and the light. We do not protect people from making stupid decisions.”

This showed that Jedi can commune with it all. Even a network of caves that didn't want to be mine anymore. A good ending to a great beginning.

Story: 7/10
Importance: 7/10
Reason: Decent story, solid art, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. This is the first real look we get into Ty's backstory with a pretty massive reveal, so I'm tempted to put its importance higher, but I guess it depends on how much you actually CARE about Ty. If the other books made you interested in her back story, its a must read, if they didn't, its less important.

Closer to 4.5 rounded down. I really liked this, other than some minor grammatical errors probably from translation this was a great addition to the High Republic story. Ty Yorrick is such a great character with an amazing costume and lightsaber. Learning her past and why she left the Jedi order was very interesting. I hope we see her again soon, but I don’t know with phase 2 of the HR being set before this first phase.

Out of the three High Republic graphic novels I've read so far, I will admit this was likely my least favourite, just because I didn't feel anything particularly "ahhh!" or "ooooh" about the characters. I like Ty in The Rising Storm though, and I feel like this did a nice job of setting up her background.

I just couldn't get into it. It provides a back story for Ty Yorrick, who was a brilliant and fresh addition to an already full roster of characters in The Rising Storm, there is nothing of substance to it. It is a typical loner story that falls into generic tropes. I wish there was more that could be said about this.

Was lovely seeing Ty again and getting a bit more of her backstory however this book wasn't hugely engaging.

Plot was very standard run of the mill, characters were fairly flat, however it was engaging and it did make me want to read the full thing

I enjoyed the art quite a lot

Hoping to see more of Ty

Another great little High Republic story and again Cavan knows exactly what to do with his characters.

A short but satisfying and joyous story of our favourite force user Ty Yorrick and her quest to find the Gretalax.

Also, really enjoyed learning about her past and her unfortunate story with Klias.

This felt a lot like a double episode pilot for a new cartoon. It has the perfect blend of character introduction and development and plot driven action. Surprisingly one of the better stories to come out of the High Republic.

Honestly, I don't see what the monster hunting fuss is about.
All you gotta do is show up, goof off for a little bit, realise man was the real monster all along, and fuck off having learned a valuable life lesson.
That's easy as taking candy from an endangered species.

Ty Yorrick is growing to be a favorite of mine in the High Republic era. I liked this a lot, it was a great way to provide a lot of context for her character while still not necessarily being essential reading.

This comic is a nice way to fill in the backstory of Ty Yorrick, which you still do not get the full picture of. The present-day story was fine, but it didn’t blow me away. I like Ty Yorrick as a character though so I’m curious where she’ll show up in the future.

This book was a lot of fun to read. Sure, it was a monster hunting adventure, but it also had some great character development, some new character, politics, and plenty of fun moments. Some of the structure to this story reminded me of Beowulf, but just the "Hero faces menacing monster" aspect. Really fun story with some fun action panels!
