kindle version not recommended

This book is extremely frustrating to read at least in the kindle version. The unusual words are highlighted in the text but there is no link back and forth between the text and vocabulary list. This necessitates leaving the text, reverting to the contents and pressing the vocabulary section every time you want to check a word or scrolling through until you get to the vocabulary list, very wearing on the fingers, or using a dictionary which is cumbersome and partly what you are paying to avoid. What is the point of having a vocabulary list like this? It is a barrier to learning and big demotivater. Secondly, the practice of leaving out furigana after one or two uses is misconceived at this level. It’s all very well to tell people to read through the text without dwelling on individual words or grammar but most people need to get an orientation at the start just being able to understand the Japanese text and the apparatus of text with furigana and individual vocabulary consultation help to do this and give a sense of achievement. Ploughing through a text just getting the gist of the story leaves you depressed about how much of the actual text you’ve had to pass over leaving it hanging in the air. You don’t want to spend a huge time going over and over one book. Maybe this just applies to the kindle version but if the lack of links that are essential to getting around the book with ease cannot be provided, then don’t sell a kindle version or at least make people aware of it in the sample version. In practice it’s virtually impossible to read this book on kindle and in my opinion a waste of money.
