My pals are just being gays, they are being homies, they are being homosexuals. And I love them so fucking much. Yuu is so stupid and Mika is so so so sooo done with him lol. But they are stupid together, always together. I love them so much. They are so cute aaslfksksowk. If they don't end up together I'm gonna kms lmao not true but maybe a little bit true? Gotta run to fanfics otherwise lmao
Yu said last volume had a plan to save everybody. Then he starts going on about how smart Mika is, and how he can surely come up with something. [Mika, annoyed, but obviously also a bit flattered]: “So your plan was to dump it all in my lap?” [Yu] “My job is to be the brawn, y’know. If any vampires show up, I’ll chop em to bits!” LOL. At least you’re self-aware, Yu!
After all the angst of the last few, this volume was a delight! Not that Yu and Mika are out of danger, of course. But we get to see more pages at a time of them just being happy having an adventure together than we’ve seen this whole series, probably. And being creative together, which is arguably even better, since it’s what they’ll need to find their way out of the apparent trolley problem (save Mika or save the world) that Guren and the First have set up.
Also, Yu tells Mika his angel form is pretty at least three times.
Interestingly, Rigr and the vampires (other than Krul, Crowley, and Ferid) are ALSO looking for a third path that does not involve doing what the First wants.
Favorite moments (spoilers, obviously):
- OK, I guess loveable-dumbass-Yu isn’t gone if he can get this excited about climbing a tower: “Look how high up we are! We’re super-duper high up!” [Mika] “Oof. You sound so dumb right now.” [Yu] “But this is seriously so awesome! C’mon!” [Mika] “Yes, you’ve established that part. Geez.” …and then immediately falls off.
- But the new smart thoughts are there too: “I just kinda figured I should look and really see, y’know?...The world the catastrophe destroyed, and everyone who died in it. Hey Mika? This whole time I was only ever thinking about myself and my family. I just had to save my family. I just had to save you.”
- Mika reiterates the idea that Yu should therefore not try to be greedy, but just give him up for the rest of the world and his new family: “Your happiness is my happiness…That Shinoa girl. Do you remember what she said at the end? They all said they love you. They begged you not to go. You must’ve heard that.” Ooh, getting into some repressed feelings: “No, dammit! Go! You already turned your back on me and left once! So keep going!..That Shinoa girl likes you! Learn to like her back!...Have kids! Smile! Live!” Sigh. I swear to God, Mika, you really need to deal with these self-esteem issues.
- Fortunately: [Yu] “How can you think I can start a new life if you aren’t in it?...If I was going to give up on you, I would’ve offed myself that day and saved myself the trouble. But I didn’t. I stayed alive. And because I did, I got you back. Now you’re going to tell me to abandon you again? Ha ha. Not happening. That’s like telling me to die.”
- Being unusually sensible again, Yu points out that they haven’t actually sat down and worked out how to get what THEY want, like Guren and the First have. And that’s what they’ll have to do to even see if there is a third option.
- Telling your not-officially-boyfriend that his angel corpse was really pretty is very strange. But about par for the course with these two!
- Ooh, that was a clever plan for the food raid! I like seeing them be smart together a lot!
- Aaand, now Yu is trying to climb Mount Fuji for the hell of it. [Mika] “Do you even remember the situation we’re in? Who WOULD climb it right now?” But it’s sweet that he wants to make nice memories with Mika, given that they might not have another chance!
- Yu jumping up on a torii gate: [Mika] “Are sure jumping up on that isn’t sacrilegious?” [Yu] “We’ve already been hit with all kinds of divine punishment.”…[Mika] “You have a point. We can’t get any more cursed than we already are.” And as they sit on top together, admiring the view: [Yu] “Aren’t you glad we came now?” [Mika] “Yeah, I am. I got to see you happy after all.” [Yu] “You look happy too…If we’ve gotta live, might as well have fun.” [Mika, smiling] “Good point.” And when Mika says he’ll never forget seeing this scenery together, and Yu retorts that they’re gonna win and live so long they’ll totally forget…AWWW!
- Oh, good, Shinya’s still alive! (And Kureto – meh, whatever). That’s nice. He was not looking so hot the last time we saw him.
- Interesting that both Rigr and Yu & Mika are looking for a third path by delving into memories of the past.
- Kid-sized Yu and Mika go wandering around in Yu’s suppressed memory of long-ago Greece. [Mika] “Is it ringing any bells?” [Yu] “Nope. With as long as I’ve lived, do you think I’m going senile?” [Mika] “Yeah, when it comes to you, the lights are on but generally no one’s ever home.” [Yu] “HEY!” LOL
- Yu, don’t say dead angel Mika is “you, but prettier.” That’s mean! Of course, Mika gets his own back when Yu asks him to try to remember them talking: “There was this really dumb-sounding voice repeating my name over and over.”
- Ooh, cliff-hanger of opening a door to Yu’s origins! I mean, we already know he isn’t a normal human – but what is he?
So this volume was a whole lotta nothing. The plot needs to start picking up, the story has been meandering for what feels like ten volumes. It's actively a slog to read now.
A estas alturas sólo quiero que terminen vivos, dejen de sufrir un poco y tengan algo de felicidad. Lo leo desde los 16 años más o menos, ¿así que basé mis estándares amorosos en dos pixeles? Exactamente♡
This volume was honestly so refreshing after so much pain. This had so many cute moments of Mika and Yu just vibing and ugh, it was just so good.🥹 I've read actual romance novels that weren't as romantic as what these two got going on, I'm so serious.
Oh my god but Mika begging Yu to give up on him, move on, and start a new family with Shinoa but Yu says he can't possibly start a new life without him.😭 (Completely ignoring what he said about Shinoa lmao I'm sorry it's funny at this point about how much he doesn't gaf about her like that.)
Yu saying that telling Mika to abandon him is like telling him to die and how he would have just killed himself back then if he was planning on giving up on Mika now???
Good to see Yu actually is still dumb and his grand plan to get out of their current situation is he wants Mika to think something up.💀
They need to steal food because Yu is burning energy fast and their plan is so smart. The goal is to dig deep into Yu's memories to try to understand his past, and a way to complete their own goals, instead of doing what Guren or the First want.
My love / hate relationship with Guren is still holding strong because I'm lizard brain and he's hot and a jackass enough to be endearing. But then all he does is be suspicious, fight Yu, and try to stop him from doing what he needs to do. I appreciate how Guren is not stupid though and he knew their plan straight away. Dick move the way he tested to see if Yu was sane or not but he ate.
So happy to see Shinya again!!! Of course his first course of action is he wants to send word to Guren.🥹🌈
The entire chapter where they climb Mt Fuji and then just sit together watching the sunrise???? Them doing it in the first place because Yu wants to make good memories with Mika.😭 Mika saying how he'll remember it forever and Yu is like nah we're gonna live for a long time together and have many more happy moments that we'll forget this one???
I'm one more gentle hand hold away from checking myself into a slippy sock vacation like they are perfection.😭

This is a LOT of setup. I'm glad we get to see Mika and Yu duking it out and explaining how each other feels about Yu's splintering from Guren's squad in the previous volume. But their new status as duo here feels really tonally off. They're sorta in a weird “bad boys” spot. It's sorta playful with them doing their own thing and screwing up everyone's plans but its for the family. But then they also straight up kill a bunch of people and take rations to starve a town. Yu's rationale is its a go big or bust and if they win they'll just revive everyone but like… that's a lot of death and the story writes it off for MikaYuu moments which feels bad and awkward to me. There's a lot of MikaYuu in here but a lot of it doesn't really seem to add much. Seraph of the End sometimes takes awhile to get to what it wants to do. And Kagami mentioned he writes in chunks for the volumes. And you definitely feel that here since this whole thing has a very “breezy lets do our own thing” vibe that feels really different from everything else we've read so far. You also feel it because really all that is accomplished can be stated in a sentence or two and yet here's a whole volume.

I just love the bond between Yu and Mika. It is well displayed in this and the last volume. Yu finally is able to spend time with his precious Mika and experience things they missed out on over the years they were separated. I keep wishing the two would end up being an official couple though. Its exciting to finally start diving into exactly what the two if them are and see where it all began. I really hope one day the anime will get picked back up, it was great in my opinion. Again, fingers crossed for some BL action between the two and a happy ending.
I've not read a single other volume of this nanga and I'm kind of freaked out by how easy it was to understand what's going on. We got it by accident at the bookstore and my manager saw it was backwards and gave it to me. And I thought it would be funny so whatever. So 28 other volume and I felt like I missed bascially nothing, that feels crazy to me. It could be because it's pretty generic yaoi bait. Demons verses vampires, the main two are basically old gods and are in love but only friendship love. And the weapons have cool names. That's basically it.
