DNF 2.5 ⭐️’s Had loads of potential and good story telling. But FMC ruined it.
I really wanted to love this story!
It’s well written besides a few small issues…
The plot is interesting with heaps of potential.
The MMC is very likeable and easy to care about.
Which is the problem.
The FMC is extremely unlikable and unsympathetic!
Her friend, who wasn’t questioning the system or what was happening, managed to see through things and care, with minimum interaction with Alphas.
While the FMC, who was supposedly questioning, and spent plenty of close and personal time with an Alpha…didn’t???
She failed to grow, failed to express empathy or decency, despite all the information she had. She made it all about herself.
She was so offensive!
I tried skimming to get through, but ended up having to just skip to the end.
The MMC suffered SO much, but all the care and consideration was for HER.
We spent so little time on the world building and the really interesting parts, and basically had to read the FMC’s constant back flipping, self pity, and self absorption. Repeatedly trying to blame the MMC, despite all logic and evidence denying her conclusions.
TSTL!
Plus, the constant victim shaming 😱
Blaming him, even her, for the situation they were stuck in.
Even when we got to the end, the narrative didn’t change.
That’s BS.
You don’t blame those trying to defend themselves and others.
You put the blame where it belongs, those committing the abuse!
That’s a totally messed up message to have here.
I do like this authors talent, so will try the next book, and see if it improves.
The synopsis suggest this FMC is much more intelligent and potentially likeable.
