My plans for the summer seemed to be falling apart. Originally, I was going to live outside Chicago, in peace and solitude, while I worked on launching my own business. But then a friend borrowed the money I had set aside for that and suddenly couldn’t pay me back.
She came up with an alternate plan, one that involved me spending the summer at a family friend’s cabin in Arkansas. Even that looked like it wouldn’t work out until a handsome stranger miraculously got involved.
Beau helped us work it out, and I reluctantly decided to accept the invitation to spend my summer in Arkansas. I was hoping for the best and looking forward to getting some much needed work done. What I didn’t expect was that meeting Beau and going to the cabin would change my life forever.

Just for Tonight, book three in the Morgan Family series by Brooke St. James, delivers a stunning mix of all those things a sweet rom-com should, including familiar faces, fake-turned-real romance, relationship advice from a godly perspective, and a jump scare that provides laughs for the reader and a diving board competition for the characters!
A month before graduation, Holland McArthur meets Beau Cameron (a Chicago resident, Notre Dame architecture major, and Morgan cousin) in a stairwell near his mother's office. Astrid Morgan, a former ballerina turned administrator at a Chicago conservatory for the arts, is telling a tearful girl named Sophia that her friend (Holland) can't stay in their family's lake house in Arkansas. Beau, wanting to help, gets his Uncle Max, owner of the house, to agree to let Holland stay there for the entire summer, rent free, to work on her custom dog collar and tag business, rather than getting a small apartment and working a low-skill job in Chicago to pay rent instead of increasing her business. Sophia had hoped that the free stay would help alleviate the large debt she owed Holland for a loan made for her deadbeat boyfriend, who ran out on Sophia and took Holland's money with him.
Holland thanks him but isn't interested until they run into each other at a bar concert and she recruits him to be her fake boyfriend--"just for tonight "--to keep an annoying guy off her back. A fake kiss becomes more, and their early days at the lake house become a test of hiding their attraction from his family, including Beau's younger brother, incorrigible flirt AJ. At the lake house we get reacquainted with Hope (from book one) and learn that Lila (from book two) has moved to California, presumably to continue her acting career. Casey, Charlie's brother (from book one), is there with Uncle Max; so are Eric (Hope's Nashville-based brother) and Aunt Sarah, a Morgan relative I hadn't met before she picked up Beau at the Little Rock airport after his first summer trip. (Aunt Sarah is the advice giver to Holland, who pretends she's interested in someone else, not Beau.)
Beau's second trip, with his lacrosse teammates from Notre Dame, is to Japan. His Japanese teammate's grandfather, CEO of a large international company, sees Holland's business website and, on a whim, decides to open up a franchise in Tokyo with managers trained by Holland and efficiently outsourced leather for the collars and metal for the tags. Holland is on Cloud Nine! Then, on a conference call, when it's time for Beau to witness her signature on the paperwork, he appears in the background of her side of the call and scares her so badly that she falls out of her chair and unplugs her computer on the way down--laugh number one! When Beau tries to catch her, he gets clocked by her watch--laugh number two! After she treats his scratch and he explains that everyone in Japan knew that he was leaving early, and Uncle Max spent two days painting a guest room to look like his hotel room while another Morgan tacked up a fake Tokyo scene behind him for their private video call before the conference call, they--ahem!--further delay Holland's return to the online meeting.
When Astrid asks how the call went, Beau says he wants to tell everyone at dinner. They watch a video on Holland's latop of her being jump-scared (literally!) by Beau and falling out of her chair. Before long, all the men in the family are jumping off the diving board in imitation of Holland's fall--laugh number three! (She says that her fall resembled a fainting goat, which for me was laugh number four because I recently read Townshipped by Jessie Gussman, in which a goat farmer's herd collectively faints when his territorial llama squeals at a stranger!)
Max pulls Beau aside and asks him to help him with the design of a mysterious building he wants to construct on a neighboring lot, but says he doesn't know how to fit Holland into his plan. They decide that Beau will stay in the guest house, she will stay in the main house, and both of them will work until they decide to return to Chicago together.
The Epilogue, a year later, shows Holland meeting Sophia in the bathroom of the Chicago bar where she convinced Beau to be her fake boyfriend for one night. Sophia, clueless about Holland's life in Arkansas, can't believe that Holland has married Beau and is expanding her business to Japan. Holland tells her not to worry about the debt because it worked out so well, it had to be God's doing!
Just for Tonight is my favorite Morgan book so far! I loved seeing Hope again, getting better acquainted with Beau, and meeting Holland. It's also fun to speculate--for the third book in a row--what business Uncle Max and his son Casey are involved in. (Max refuses point blank to answer any question Beau might want to ask about the purpose of the building he'll design.) I highly recommend it to fans of sweet romance, Christian forgiveness, and fainting goats!
In this realistic variation on the fake boyfriend trope, Holland is understandably miffed when her friend borrows money & then gets conned out of it by her boyfriend. Never lend money to a friend if you want to stay friends!
It's kind of funny how she & Beau misunderstand each other after they leave the club where they meet, when he clumsily & unintentionally makes her think that he thinks she's not good enough for him as a girlfriend when he's really trying to explain their differences in temperament & outlook that he thinks would make them incompatible - if they had ACTUALLY been looking at each other that way.
Still, the oxytocin from those faking it kisses is real enough to lead to more and culminates in a sweet full circle wrapup of another enjoyable dose of happily-ever-after!
Although I am definitely not a YA I enjoyed this story. This is a cute clean read. The main Chars even though they are just graduating college are mature and independent. Holland worked so hard to save up money so that she could work her summer starting her own company. Proactive. She and Beau both have tender hearts in that they both help friends regardless of thinking of themselves. Great role models regardless of this being a fiction story. Great job Brooke St. James!
I will never understand how I can have a favorite family and know that they will remain my favorite. BUT after every release, I seem to cave and adopt a new favorite! That is only because I just love everything Brooke writes. Every member has a unique story and every story has a way of keeping me invested. The Morgan/Cameron family is interesting and I can't wait for more. Thanks for another 5 star read!!
2.5 stars. This was a departure from most other BSJ stories. Two people who both say they aren’t interested in a relationship start faking it. The plot is fairly convoluted. The MCs are generally nice people, and we have a message about good things being gifts from God. Many side characters mentioned without adding to the story. Nothing offensive here, but not one of my favorites.
I’d say this is a beach read, but it’s winter here. It’s a fast moving fun novel, entertaining, switching directions, and yet predictable. It’s a whole new premise though. If life could just turn out like this wouldn’t it be nice. Happy endings are great in make believe land, and sometimes you want to live in that fantasy. Enjoy this. It’s worth your time.
This is a very interesting and inspiring story. Beau knows exactly what type of woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Does Holland meet his qualifications? Read on to find out the answer. You will definitely enjoy reading this book.
I love all of Brooke’s stories but this Morgan series is some of my favorites. This was such a sweet story without unnecessary angst and drama, I really loved the chemistry between the characters and enjoyed the whole story.
This was a very different beginning for this story. Holland and him met in very different Circumstances They were both From 2 different worlds but it just goes to show you When god is in the plans, they will work out.although Neither looks to God for help.
I enjoyed this book. I agree that the Lord is in the details of our lives. I loved the characters in the story. They were great. It's nice to read about loving families also.
The characters were fun and very loving. The story was very enlightening. There was alot of relationships based on love and kindness. The romance was fun too. I enjoyed this book from start to finish.
I loved this book by Brooke St. James. I also loved the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book and all of Brooke’s books.
