Five years ago, Helen lost her husband. Now she may lose her life.
Five years ago, Helen’s husband Paul went missing while skiing in the Swiss Alps. His body was never found, but he is presumed dead because no-one could have survived a night on that freezing mountainside.
It took Helen a long time to get over her loss, but now she has pulled her life back together – she is an acclaimed interior designer in a loving relationship with a new man.
Even better, Helen has just been offered her dream project, renovating a luxurious chalet in an idyllic location. There’s only one catch – it’s right next to the resort where Paul went missing.
She decides to take the job anyway, convincing herself that a visit to the scene of her great tragedy will actually be good for her, that it will give her a chance to lay old demons to rest.
But soon after she arrives, she makes an utterly shocking discovery and finds herself caught up in a nightmarish web of treachery and deceit where nothing is as it seems.
Only one thing is certain – the mountains want to claim another body…

That was underwhelming, unfortunately. The author packed too many characters that had no necessity to be there. The ending was trying so hard to be shocking (as all thrillers try to do to be fair), but those loose ends were so “underdone”. And I found the whole experience to be a tad boring 🤷♀️ (skim-reading doesn’t suit any book I tell ya). I will compliment the atmosphere of the story though, it is quite cold and Christmas-y.
A quick read which I devoured in one sitting. This author knows how to get the readers heart pounding. The tension slowly ramping up and the story itself was definitely not what I was expecting. Another gripping read from one of my favourite authors. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
I was drawn to this book based on the Swiss Alps setting (I read it in February when I was looking for something wintery- though the present day parts of the story take place in the summer). I thought this was a decent read, but was more of a drama than a thriller and was a slow burn. I really didn’t like the ending, but overall it was a compelling premise, and a decent read
This was a brilliant book, set in Switzerland mostly it was very intense and twisty. It describes the country so accurately and I could feel the snow and cold as I was reading. It had you believing one thing and then it went off in a different direction so that you were thinking something entirely different. A great read. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I flew through this one and read it in a couple of sittings. Rijks is becoming a must read author for me and I am enjoying her style of writing. I had a few things figured out with this one but not all, and I was entertained by this one the entire time. I loved the setting of Switzerland as well as the characters, though not all are good people obviously, and I liked the surprises in here from a couple of folks I was not expecting at the end.
Thank you to Inkubator Books and NetGalley for the digital copy to review.
This was good! After a slow start, I wasn't sure where this was going. It got progressively darker, with the tension picking up pace big time. I loved the setting of the Swiss Alps, great plot - loved the duel time line and POV's. The character development was where I felt a little let down. Paul's character was one that I found a little lacklustre/flat. Overall a compelling read, that I would recommend. This is my first by M Rijks, and look forward to reading more from her. 3.5 stars Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced reading copy.
Helen and Paul married for 3 years are on holiday in Switzerland. They have a few arguments and Paul goes missing. Five years later Helen, an interior designer, accepts a job and returns to the place Paul died/missing. This is a quick and suspenseful read!
My first book by this author and it certainly won't be my last. The start really had me gripped and turning those pages. Although the husband was an absolute tool, I really like the MC even if she did exaggerate everything. A twist thrill ride with plenty of "oooh!" moments!
I enjoyed this book! It had a lovely description of Switzerland. It was interesting from the beginning and was a very quick, easy read! While you know that the missing husband was really alive very early on, you can’t imagine what part he will play once his wife finds out. It continues to develop the plot throughout the story, and you are constantly anxious about what is really happening with the various hints. It will keep you guessing, and I was pleased with the ending. My only issue was the grammatical errors. I noted a lot, but there was many more lack of commas that would have made this book easier to read. The sentences were constantly run-ons, but while I’m a grammar nerd, I was able to get past it since the story was so good.
Helen Sellers lost her husband, Paul, five years ago when he evidently skied off the side of the mountain in the Alps during bad weather. His body was never found. Helen had just learned that she was pregnant and has since given birth to, and is the mother of Emily. While Helen and Paul were having some marital problems before his disappearance, she still grieved him. Paul’s parents helped Helen to get the education she needed to become an Interior Decorator which she now loves.
Helen has met a wonderful and kind man named Andrew and he has moved in with her and Emily. Since Paul’s body has never been found, she must wait for more years yet for him to be declared dead so she can remarry.
Helen gets a call asking her to do the interior design for a luxury chalet in the Alps. While she is thrilled to have the chance, she is somewhat hesitant as it is near the resort where Paul went missing. However, she knows she wants the job and accepts.
She realizes she will need to spend a lot of time there and will stay in a little cottage near the building site. Soon, events happen in the stream of her design schedule that make her wonder if someone is out to ruin her reputation. But things build and she finds herself terrified.
This is a good book with a plausible story that I found to be well-written with good characters. I have read several books by this author and am coming to look forward to more. Enjoy!

Five years ago Helen lost her husband, now she may lose her life.
After her husband went missing presumed dead on a skiing holiday Helen had no choice but to move on with her life. She is finally in a good place loving a new man, her daughter by her side and her dream job which takes her back to the place she lost Paul. Things seem very familiar, too familiar, are secrets about Paul’s disappearance about to ruin the everything?
I needed a gripping book and I knew this author wouldn’t disappoint. I’ve loved every book of hers so far and this is my first 5⭐️ book of the year.
so i definitely started this book this afternoon and i literally couldn’t put it down!!!! idk what miranda puts in her books but i love everything she writes!
Big Miranda Rijks fan here! Uber excited to have a new thriller of hers to devour and this time it's the atmospheric setting of the Swiss Alps. Seriously, I was frozen to the bone just reading about it! Luckily it's been somewhat toasty here in Sydney this week so I didn't get frostbite.
Interior designer, Helen Sellers has built a new life for herself and her daughter Emily after the tragic loss of her husband Paul in the Swiss Alps some five years ago. He was a far more proficient skier than Helen, who was only a beginner at the time, and spent his days out on the mountains and coming back to their dingy hotel in the evenings. Then one day, he didn't return. Helen is frantic and calls the police who then deploy a mountain rescue team...all to no avail. The only thing they found was a ski Paul had hired at the top of a sheer drop over the mountainside...the consensus being that he had an accident and tragically fell to his death.
Ironically, the death of a teenage girl on the piste occurred just a couple of days before Paul's disappearance...and he was acting somewhat strangely at the time. Helen had confronted him when his response to the girl's tragic death wasn't normal, and they ended up having a huge row. The next day he disappeared. Are the two incidents connected?
Helen had discovered she was pregnant just prior to these events and expecting Paul to be over the moon, she was shocked to discover he was anything but.
Now five years later, she has moved on and found love again in a wonderful man named Andrew. And Emily adores him and has even asked if she can call him daddy. They plan to marry when the seven years has passed since Paul's disappearance and he can legally be declared dead. It is time to move on and close that chapter of her life.
And then Helen gets a commission to design the interior of a chalet in the Swiss Alps...a place that holds nothing but bad memories for her. Is this a coincidence? Or is fate bringing her back to where it all happened all those years ago? The owner of the chalet, Camilla, is a tyrant who wants everything to be perfect and yesterday. She doesn't want to know of any problems...she just wants the job done. But when Camilla brings the completion date forward a month, Helen finds she needs to stay on site for the duration just to ensure everything is completed on time.
And then Helen sees him...or she thinks she does. It's the limp - from an old rugby injury - she would know that gait anywhere. But when she tries to find him, he's gone. Did she really see him or is her mind playing tricks on her?
Then strange things begin to happen. Like when Emily tells her of "the nice man" who has been speaking to her. What man? And the slate that falls off the roof in a storm, narrowly missing Helen and only injuring her. And calls made to the suppliers cancelling her orders for the interior design job she's been commissioned to do. And that inane sense that someone is watching her. But when Emily announces that a huge teddy bear had been left at the door for her name on, Helen is creeped out. Someone is stalking her and her daughter. But who are they and what do they want?
FORGET ME NOT is a fun-filled thriller that moves at a steady pace with a scenic setting that is so atmospheric the chills could be felt icing up the page. Unfortunately none of the characters were likeable, except Andrew and he didn't have a huge role. I would have liked him to have stayed and played more of a part. We get several POVs as the story unfolds in the timelines of THEN and NOW. When the first twist came, it wasn't a shock. I had been expecting it. But it was still entertaining and utterly compelling...until the end. I found that to be sadly disappointing. All that build up...for what? I fear I cannot say more without spoiling it, but I was dissatisfied with it...on more than one count. Up until then, it had almost been a five star read.
Overall, the story was compelling and the tension palpable. While there was no real mystery throughout, you are still absorbed within the story wanting to know more and find out how it all ends. It was definitely an interesting read, with the setting being the star of it all, though not one of Miranda's best. But still compelling enough to enjoy and be entertained.
I would like to thank #MirandaRijks, #Netgalley, #InkubatorBooks and #ZoolooTours for an ARC of #ForgetMeNot in exchange for an honest review.
This started off so strong! The scenery was beautiful, nothing better than the Swiss alps for a thriller right?! The longer I read, the more questions developed and then the end didn’t fully tie everything together, which was disappointing. Orla basically gets away with being a horrific human being. Paul, who is so weak it’s laughable, dies anyway, without ever getting to explain his actions to Helen. And how did Maron and Gullierme know Paul was Neomie’s killer? The accident happened on the slopes and the police never knew Paul was even suspected, as Helen tells Teresa she never reported her suspicions. I’m not sure if I missed something in the story somewhere but a plot hole that big significantly decreased my enjoyment. Overall I will try this author again as I was thoroughly entertained throughout the book.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced e-reader copy of this book.

Helen is married to Paul for one year when he commences an affair with Orla, a mercurial character who excites him enormously. So much so, that he overlooks her criminal behaviour and willingly abandons Helen while on a skiing holiday, disappearing without a word. Helen is besides herself despite difficulties she experienced with Paul, but mainly because she discovers that she is pregnant. Paul is assumed to have died while skiingin inclement weather just a few days after a teenager died on the slopes.
Fast forward five years and Helen finds herself back in the same area while working on an interior decorating assignment and the fun and games begin.
Forget Me Not follows the journey of Helen Sellers, an interior designer, living in England with her loving partner Andrew, and her young daughter Emily. Having been offered her dream project, renovating a luxurious chalet which will do wonders for her bank balance, as well as her reputation, Helen feels daunted because the chalet is located in the Swiss Alps…. The same place her husband Paul, tragically disappeared, five years prior.
Opting to go on the trip, believing it may offer closure, Helen suddenly finds herself opening doors into her past. As she begins to explore what really happened the night Paul went missing, it becomes evident things aren’t what they seem.
Is Helen and her family in danger? Can they get out alive or will the mountain claim another victim?
The Good
· Miranda Rijks creates a powerful setting, where the reader can almost feel the cold! The book is well-paced, and the author moves seamlessly between “then and now” dual perspectives.
· Overall, a fast read which kept me engaged throughout and I enjoyed the plot.
The Bad
· Character development could have really enhanced the story and improved the overall ending. Additionally, I didn’t feel satisfied because I still had unanswered questions.

Helen's husband Paul is presumed dead after he disappeared whilst skiing five years ago. She has moved on with her life, building a new career and ready to marry again. A job opportunity she can't turn down just happens to be in the same mountains where she last saw Paul... Forget Me Not is a psychological thriller and domestic drama novel centred around a marriage and a disappearance. Helen and Paul's relationship was ready to change forever as she had just discovered that she was pregnant. The next day he vanished in an alpine storm and was assumed to be buried in the snow. Helen went on to give birth and find new love but cannot properly move on until the seven year deadline has passed. The book is written in the past and present from two perspectives. The big twist occurs about a third of the way through and was pretty obvious. However, I loved how the narration builds the layers of the characters' stories and was totally engrossed in the plot from start to finish. I had absolutely no sympathy for Paul's character. He is utterly selfish and this helped to make me like Helen even more. She goes through so much as a result of his choices and now finally has a chance of happiness with her new family as well as getting her dream career which she previously had held off due to Paul's work. Finally I'd just like to mention the geographical setting and the detail on skiing. The plot really came to life against the backdrop of the mountains and the author clearly knows about winter sports. This made the whole book more authentic in my opinion. Forget Me Not was an engaging and entertaining thriller.
I thought this started out a little slow. But then it really picks up. It’s one twist after another. It’s very good.
At first the story is all from Helen’s perspective but as it goes on, we hear from the other character – can’t say who without giving it away. 5 years ago, Helen’s husband Paul vanished while he and Helen were on vacation at a ski resort. Paul is presumed dead. The chapters alternate between before and present day and we learn all that happened on the vacation. Paul is not a nice person, or a good husband. On vacation Helen reveals to Paul that she is pregnant. After Paul is presumed dead, Helen has the baby, Emily. Paul’s parents help Helen, and she goes on to become an interior decorator. Then it is 5 years later. Helen has a fiancé, Andrew. He, Helen, and Emily are a happy family. Helen has to wait 7 years before Paul will be declared dead to marry Andrew. Helen is offered a big project. The only problem is it is next door to the resort where Paul disappeared. Helen has some reservations about accepting the project but decides to do it.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this story. We hear all about Orla and how she ties into the story. We learn about the elderly neighbors who befriend Helen.
There is a big twist towards the end that was a total surprise to me. I didn’t see it coming. I liked the end, seemed very fitting what happened.
I was immediately intrigued when I saw that "Forget Me Not" is a thriller set in the Swiss Alps and features a ski vacation. The story was relatively captivating and I actually felt I could empathize with the protagonist, Helen, which is rare for me with a thriller book. I did put it down a couple of times in favor of other books, so it wasn't entirely as engaging as I would have hoped for, but I would overall recommend it.
Helen has mostly gotten over the loss of her husband Paul; five years ago, he disappeared on a ski trip near a small village in the Swiss Alps and was proclaimed dead, despite the fact that a body was never recovered. Helen has a sweet daughter and a caring partner, and a blossoming career as an interior designer. However, all of that is disrupted when Helen is offered a job decorating a chalet in the same ski village from which Paul disappeared. Despite her initial misgivings about returning to the place that hosts so many unpleasant memories for her, Helen decides to take the job, and sets out to conquer the last of her uncertainties regarding Paul's disappearance. Unfortunately, as you could imagine, things don't pan out quite as she had planned...
This was a pretty fast and easy read with an unexpected twist at the end (at least for me!). I would recommend it if you're a fan of thrillers that take place in snowy settings. 4 stars!
The backdrop to this story, the Swiss Alps, described both in the depth of winter and height of summer is amazing. I could have read this book just for Miranda Rijks’ descriptions alone but I also enjoyed the storyline which was twisty and exciting if a little patchy in places. The story is told from two different perspectives and timelines. The then (Helen’s husband Paul is missing, presumed dead in the freezing Swiss Alps) and now Helen has rebuilt her life and has the cutest little daughter, Emily. She is just waiting for another two years to pass so she can declare Paul dead and marry Andrew, who is a lovely man and a great father to Emily. Miranda Rijks gets it exactly right. Written through Helen’s eyes, then, you can feel Helen’s terror, alone in a strange country, her husband missing and now, back in that same country five years later for work reasons, not sure who she can trust. It would appear someone hates her. She fears for herself and Emily, with good reason.
I did not see the end coming and despite it stretching my credulity somewhat, leaving me with several questions, it was a real page turner with an absolutely thrilling climax.
A wind storm just blew through our town and took out our power for two days. The only mode of entertainment was my beloved Kindle. I always make sure to have plenty of books downloaded and readily available. This one has been sitting for some time, but I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised and enthralled. The story kept me captivated until the end.
I enjoyed Helen as a character and wanted a happy ending for her. She got the happy ending, but I don’t feel that I, the reader, got the closure that I wanted. Paul and Orla were grade A selfish asses. Their actions rippled out to affect so many lives. I don’t understand how Manon or Guillaume connected their granddaughter‘s death to Paul. It is a leap to make that connection. Paul’s selfless act in the end does not negate everything he did to Helen and Emily, and to the part he played in the death of Noemi.
I yearned for some type of poetic justice but I found that the death of Paul was the easy way out. Orla, the real murderer, pretty much got away with murder. I know in real life loose ends are not always tied up in a neat bow but I like my stories to bring me closure and leave me satisfied.

"Forget Me Not" by Miranda Rijks is a gripping psychological thriller that revolves around a woman forced to confront the mysterious disappearance of her husband five years earlier. As she attempts to rebuild her life after this devastating tragedy, the story unfolds with an engaging pace, clever plotting, and an atmospheric setting—everything you could want from a good thriller! The Swiss Alps backdrop is integral to the suspense and truly brings the story to life.
The narrative shifts between the past and present, allowing readers to learn the story step by step, which adds to the mystery and helps in understanding the characters and their motivations.
Five years ago, Helen's husband, Paul, went missing while skiing in the Swiss Alps. His body was never found, and he was officially presumed dead, as survival in the freezing mountain environment is nearly impossible. When Helen thinks she has managed to piece her life back together, she must untangle the truth about Paul's disappearance while realising that her own life is now in danger.
This is not the first Miranda Rijks book I've read and it definitely won't be the last. I loved this one and couldn't put it down.
I really enjoyed the dual timeline and the dual character perspective - it helped build the story slowly through the book. Just when I thought I had it figured out, more information was added and I really didn't know!! Lots of twists and turns which made this thriller such a great read. I liked the characters, particularly Helen who I felt was very real, a real person in the aftermath of losing her husband. I liked the relationships she had built since then and how they helped support her through even more trouble. The setting was beautiful, so wonderfully described and made me want to visit. It was a really good setting for the thriller too, added to the mood and emotions of the book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion. This book is billed as a psychological thriller and it didn't disappoint. Helen's relationship with her husband, Paul, was not as open and honest as she thought as his behaviour changes on a skiing trip and he disappears. Fast forward a few years and she's been offered an amazing job opportunity which tests her mettle as it's in the same area as his disappearance. I thought the story was cleverly - constructed, it's credible and the suspense is built gradually, releasing new information as other characters come into play. The last few chapters and ending have several unexpected twists; it didn't end how I thought it would! A new author for me to follow.
Reading in Between the Wines book review #6/125 for 2025: Rating: 4 🍷🍷🍷🍷 Book: Forget Me Not Author: Miranda Rijks AVAILABLE NOW!!!
Sipping thoughts: I love Rijks writing, and I did not expect the ending. I loved the reveal and thrills at the end. I wish there was one more closure to the story, but overall, it was a great ride.
Cheers and thank you to @Netgalley and @InkubatorBooks for an advanced copy of @ForgetMeNot.
Having recently discovered this author, I could not wait to get stuck into more of her books and this one did not disappoint. Filled with beautiful descriptions of the Swiss Alps, it is a story of love and obsession, of loss and letting go; and yet the style of the story flipping between past and present, weaves a colourful web of deceit. What happened to Helen’s husband when he went missing on the ski slopes, leaving a single ski dangling over a cliff edge? Pregnant and alone, Helen has dealt with her grief and is just starting to get her life back on track, when a lucrative interior design contract draws her back to the place where it all happened. The story has many twists, but I had no idea it would end the way it did. A real page turner.
I’ve read several novels by this author and they never disappoint to deliver a fast-paced, electrifying thrill! In Forget Me Not, Helen is trying to move on with her life after her husband went missing from a ski resort five years ago. Now, with a child, new love interest, and a career, Helen returns to the town where she lost her husband. When she thinks she sees him, she fears she’s losing it and wonders if she’s truly over her grief. On the job, she’s faced with constant and unexplained obstacles and wonders if there’s more to a possible sighting. I really enjoyed this one but would have liked a little more from the conclusion of the mystery.
“Five years ago, Helen lost her husband. Now she may lose her life…”
Rijks brings the Swiss Alps to life as the setting for this gripping and intense psychological thriller, where secrets lies and deceit are front and centre. Right from the outset my spidey senses were on high alert as to what lay ahead and I enjoyed the ride taken on to uncover the truth behind it all. The characters were interesting and well crafted and while some revelations were not all surprising, there were some good twists that were. All round I found this to be an entertaining read and look forward to Rijks next offering.
