Seduce Me is a two story anthology containing stories about personal trainer Lacey Vaughn and her older brother, construction company owner Blade.
In Touching Lace, Lacey Vaughn is wondering what's wrong with her. She hasn't been able to hold onto a man for more than a couple of months at a time. In the last year alone she's been dumped twice and cheated on once. Why can't she hold their interest? Is she too assertive, or too controlling? Is it her less than voluptuous figure? Is it the men she's picking? Or is the problem that she's just no good in bed? That's got to be it.
When she spills all to her best friend, Nick Stone, he offers to help her out with her problem. He suggests he gives her some 'private lessons' in love. Nick wants Lacey to see him as a man, not just as a 'best friend'. He's getting tired of waiting around, hoping Lacey will notice him. He's wanted Lacey almost from the moment he met her, and the time is right to make his move. But will Lacey be open to more than just a casual relationship with him? Because Nick wants it all.
This story was hot and sexy, but it left me wondering why Lacey never considered dating Nick from the get-go. I know she thought she couldn't handle an alpha like Nick, and didn't want to mess up their friendship, but c'mon, the guy was just too good to be true. She should have hog tied him and never let him get away! And Nick was entirely too passive--I don't know what he was waiting for either. He was content to just sit back and let Lacey keep dating a string of losers before he got up the nerve to give it a shot. I know each didn't want to lose the friendship they had, but boy, they sure wasted a lot of time. But they certainly made up for lost time--Nick's 'lessons' were especially steamy-- 3 1/2 stars.
In Tasting Candy, Lacey's older brother Blade tries his hand at romance. Ever since he met shy beauty Candice Warner working at his brother's office, she's all he can think about. He wants her and he's determined to make her want him too. But Candice is so shy and skittish around men, he doesn't know if she'll ever let him get near enough to ask her out. When he witnesses her having a panic attack at his sister's gym, he's determined to find out what's going on with her. Blade's used to getting what he wants, but will Candice open up about her past and let Blade be a part of her future?
I really liked this one--it had a little more meat to the story. And Blade--what a guy! So gentle and giving as he helped Candice overcome a trauma in her past, yet exciting and agressive too. Their love scenes were real scorchers, and I loved seeing Candice get her confidence back, and go from scared rabbit to confident young woman. A very exciting, quick read--4 1/2 stars.
This was a pretty good, steamy anthology, and I'll definitely look forward to the continuation of this series. I believe there is a third story due about the other Vaughn brother, Merrick, called "Taking Chloe". There also seems to be a few other characters in this book who may get a story of their own--a couple of Lacey's girlfriends, and Candice's psychiatrist seem like likely candidates for their own book. These were two pretty good romances and makes me want to check out the author's other work--4 stars.
First off - I'd have bought this book for the cover alone! Yum.
This is actually two books in one novella. The first is Touching Lace and is about Lacey Vaughn and Nick Stone. Touching Lace I liked this story the best. Its a best friends to lovers story and was very good. I could easily picture the cover model as being Nick. He is a total alpha male and has a good balance of being an aggressive lover but also a seductive, emotional man. I was fanning myself before it was over.
The second story is related to the first and is called Tasting Candy. Tasting Candy This is about Blade Vaughn (Lacey's older brother) and Candice Warner. I liked some elements of it but for the most part, the action (to me) didn't jive with Candice's background. (major spoiler I won't give away) I know the length probably prohibited the story from unfolding at a slower pace, but it didn't feel real to me, like I wanted it to.
4.5 stars (if Goodreads would let me!) with the half star being deducted for the second story's dose of unreality.
Touching Lace is the only reason this book got 2 stars. It was an OK plot with decent characters.
Touching Candy was just horrible. A woman who was raped just jumps right into bed with a guy on her first date because she had a crush on him? Because she trusted his sister? Yeah, no.
I usually like Anne Rainey's stuff but this was just bad.
