Graphic Horror

The Picture of Dorian Gray

Rate this book
When Dorian Gray's portrait is painted it reveals him to be a man of outer beauty. He realizes then that he cannot possibly stay as young as that time. He makes a shocking wish, which comes true. No matter how he behaved, he stayed youthful and his portrait became older and older. Read the tale's stunning conclusion in this striking graphic novel adaptation. I can't even begin to count how many times I've read this novel. Lord Henry is my absolute favorite. His view on life is so expressive. I find myself quoting him all the time.

When one man's wish for eternal youth and beauty (as exemplified by a portrait of himself), causes him to commit horrible acts in order to stay young and handsome forever, his world begins to collapse. He stays young and handsome, but the painting grows more grotesque....

The middle grade/upper elementary adaptation of Oscar Wilde's classic of vanity ruling you is very tastefully adapted, leaving out some of the truly "mature" moments of the story and instead focusing more on the drama surrounding the characters, particularly Dorian.
I don't particularly care for the artists' style, but it works well in reminiscence of classic Hollywood horror/noir films with shadows, strong facial expressions and clear motives/actions pictured.
Good intro for bringing the classics to a new generation.

Story of a vain man who stupidly wished for his portrait to age and not him. Because of the wish Dorians soul became darker leading him to commit murder and heartbreak.

I read this comic on Hoopla. I didn't like the illustrations all that much, but the story was good! It is meant for children, so it was an easy read.

This graphic novel is a wonderful introduction to the famous Oscar Wilde classic. A portrait is painted of the young and handsome, Dorian Gray. As he lives his life, he behaves more and more despicably, while never aging. Yet, at each viewing of his portrait, his image decays into an increasingly hideous figure, reflecting his corrupt soul.

Thought this was a pretty good summary of the story in pictures. Didn't take very long, got the major points across, and let you see how dark Dorian's soul became.
