This little slice of life takes place about a month after the end of Allegiance of Honor. If you haven’t yet read the Psy-Changeling series, all you need to know to understand this short is that Mercy (a DarkRiver leopard sentinel) and Riley (a SnowDancer wolf lieutenant) are mated, and have just become parents to triplets (who everyone calls the pupcubs). :-)

About the author

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.


I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.

Dropping in on Mercy, Riley, and the pupcubs at home was a delight to the heart. This pair fought so hard for their chance at love and fight so hard for their packs that I loved this quiet warm scene at home when Mercy and Riley get a little time to themselves while her brothers are resting with the pupcubs.

Mercy y Riley son adorables, me encanta esta nueva faceta de sus vidas y juntos simplemente destilan ternura. Esa parte familiar intrínseca en ellos, que a mi me enamoró desde el minuto 1 no se ha perdido en ningún momento y simplemente ha ido incrementando ♥ Son una de mis parejas preferidas de toda la serie, y ver como mutuamente se consideran la mejor persona para iniciar la aventura de la paternidad es lo más cute del universo.

Esto es una historia súper cortita que puede encontrarse en la web de la autora de manera gratuita en inglés y sólo por eso no tiene más nota, ya que simplemente es una escena en la vida de Riley y Mercy, pero sin dudas, me dejó una sonrisa al terminarlo.

This was a beautiful scene with Mercy, Riley & the PupCubs. Also Mercy's brothers.

I love Mercy's brother and have from the moment we met them and this scene just cinched it for me. Bastien is my favorite though and I am glad he got his happy ending. I now hope we get the other two happy endings.

Riley & Drew are my favorite wolves and I just love Riley. He is so strong, loyal and kind, in a way I am disappointed that he ended up with Mercy, because I am not a fan of hers. I don't hate her but I don't like her either. She also does not give off a mother vibe, even in this sweet scene. Riley was perfect though and I hope we see a lot more of him in the future.

This was an adorable little snippet just after the pupcubs are born. There are several tender moments mixed with a good deal of humor, and a lot of relatable reality. Even with only one baby at a time, let alone triplets like the pupcubs, everything said describing babies and their interactions with their parents and vice versa is so relatable (aside from the actual shifting part of course). More than a few lines had me chuckling and thinking back on my own children's early years and newborn stages.

Sweet Mercy and Riley short story after the birth of their triplets. Of course those three babies are wearing everyone out, but Mercy's brothers are all zonked out after babysitting for a few hours and giving the parents a much needed break.
