The Scottish Bride: Coira MacDuff has lived a hard life. Once a prisoner of the English and held captive in a hanging cage, she is hesitant to marry an Englishman. Still, she does so for alliance purposes. But never does she expect to be brought back to Liddel Castle, the place that still haunts her dreams.
The English Knight: Sir Lance de Selby manages to secure a border castle to impress his new Scottish bride. However, the girl seems spooked and wants nothing more than to flee and go back to Scotland. All his attempts to make her accept him as her husband have failed.
Will past memories haunt a new marriage? Or will a love between enemies turn nightmares into bliss?

When Coira MacDuff pulls the “blue rose” card from the fortune teller’s deck, Zara tells her that she has never had anyone pull that card before, and that it is very special. She explains the legend of the blue rose.
When her new husband, Lord Lance de Selby tells Coira they will live at Liddel Castle (the place where she was held prisoner in a hanging cage with her sister Effie), she panics, but does not explain her fear to Lance. When Lance’s uncle, the twin (other evil twin) of the man who imprisoned her shows up at the castle, he explains her fear, and threatens Lance and Coira for information about the Stone of Destiny. Lance will have to decide what is most important to him. What does he want most, the castle or true happiness with Coira? His answer, and Coira’s, might be found in the garden.
I enjoyed this story. There were characters here that were familiar from other stories before this one. Coira and Lance were good for each other, at first naïve, then growing together. There was a surprise or two along the way, but I like the mostly straightforward, uncomplicated plot.
Coira waiting for her betrothed at the Horn and Hoof. When he arrived they married right there. Lord Lance de Selby then took her to his castle. The marriage was to make an alliances with the English, the MacKeefe’s and the MacDuffs. Lance’s uncle wants the castle. For Lance to keep it he needed to find where the stone of scone was. Coira told of the last location but it wasn’t there any more. Coira has a flower garden with roses. The uncle found that Coira lied and hung her up in a cage. Lance fought his uncle and Coira flung a dagger down that killed the uncle. After all family and clans came to celebrate. Lance and Coira went to the garden and found a blue rose that ment enemies to lovers.
A very short story but an important link in the continuing story of the MacKeefe and McDuff clans. It is not as involved as the previous books but nevertheless an important read. Unfortunately Coira relives the horrors from her past but in an unusual twist, she saves her loved one from his evil Uncle.
This is a beautiful short love story. Coira was forced to marry for alliances. Sir Lance de Selby wanted a place in life and definitely a Castle. I absolutely love when Elizabeth Rose writes romances that are based on enemies to lovers, sword fights. must read series.
Lance- a knight who "stole" a castle for his new bride. Coira- was back at the castle were she was in a hanging cage 5 to 6 years prior.
I enjoyed reading this engaging marriage of alliance story that is well written with unforgettable characters. Their story has a wonderful HEA! Loved seeing the three friends ( and their families) from Madman Mackeefe series and they haven't changed even married with children.
