This is in my top ten books of all time. I have read the three novels that make up this trilogy seperately before but what a joy to read all at once. This is the story of Vic Brown's life from the fifties through to the early seventies and what a story. Stan Barstow brings the Yorkshire town of Cressley to life so well. The final part brings together the parts and it still brings a lump to my throat!

a kind of loving is the all time favourite book of mine i have read and re read it though it may seem in places a little dated the actual basis of the story is still very typical a story of wanting one thing and when you have it not wanting it but by then you have no choice
i think this is a classic book
