I have to be honest here--I was soooo disappointed with the hero in this book, celebrity chef Luc Traverson, and to a lesser extent, stripper/restaurateur Alyssa Devereaux . Luc first appeared in the previous book (Decadent) where he was part of a menage relationship with his cousin Deke and Deke's eventual wife, Kimber. Although I don't remember everything about that book, I do remember liking Luc, and was looking forward to his book. But this book was like a roller coaster ride that peaked early, and then it was a free-fall after that...one long downhill ride with just a few speed bumps thrown in along the way. And on that downhill ride Luc kept doing/saying/thinking things that just made me want to slap him upside the head! There was nothing wrong with the writing, which I found fast paced, interesting, and easy to read with some hot dialogue and smokin' hot sex (not love) scenes. My problem was that Luc was just too judgmental, made too many assumptions, and mostly acted like an obsessive, jealous a**. In short--to me he was just unlikable. And even though he had some set-the-sheets-on-fire bedroom moves, it just wasn't enough for me.
To explain the plot of the story, we have to go back in time a bit. In the book "Decadent", Alyssa did a favor for Luc, agreeing to participate in a menage between him and his cousin Deke (this was to get Deke to realize his feelings for his lady love Kimber). Deke backs out of participating, but Luc and Alyssa hit the sheets and have such an incredibly wild time that neither can forget about it. But Luc doesn't like the way he lost control with Alyssa, and his feelings for her don't fit into the plan he has for his life-- marriage to an "appropriate" woman, and a future including children raised by a stay at home mom. But in exchange for that little favor Alyssa granted him he has to fulfill the promise he made to be the guest chef for the opening of her new restaurant. So how will he manage to keep his hands to himself when the delectable Alyssa is only too willing and eager to pick up where they left off? Will Luc be able to resist her seduction? Will his carefully laid plans for his future go out the window?
So of course Luc gives in, and Luc and Alyssa pick up where they left off. I must say these early love/sex scenes were hot! However, I didn't like how Luc acted afterward. He didn't like his dark sexual side that came out when he was with Alyssa (he wasn't the most gentle lover--he was like a battering ram with her!) so he looked for reasons why a relationship with her wouldn't work. He made way too many assumptions about Alyssa, thinking that since she was a stripper she was also a whore. He had zero trust in her. He didn't believe her when she said she and her bodyguard/bouncer were just 'friends'. (Although to be fair, she did send some crazy mixed signals about that, letting club bouncer Tyler enjoy waaay too many liberties with her). He was surprised about her college education. He assumed she wouldn't be good mother material (he had a crazy obsession to have a child of his own). I swear everything she told him, he doubted. So why did Alyssa keep him around and not show him the door?
Ah, because he made her feel special. In bed, that is. He made her feel cherished. Yes, they communicated extremely well in bed, but out of bed? No. I didn't see how this relationship could work. There was just no trust there. I couldn't understand why Alyssa didn't just give up on Luc and boot him to the curb. I really had a hard time respecting her character, but luckily, Ms. Black did give me a reason to care for her, when she revealed her backstory. Then I understood her actions. Unfortunately, I never understood Luc's actions. There was nothing in his backstory or childhood upbringing (save for a medical problem that made him unusually obsessive about producing an offspring) that would explain his behavior. I'm afraid I just didn't 'get' him. When he finally wised up (late, late into the book) I just didn't care about him anymore.
I should point out that there was a suspense plot to the book, where someone (actually, more than someone) was out to get Alyssa and/or shut down her strip club, which put her in danger many, many times. Ms. Black tries to make you focus on a certain someone as the culprit, but...ah, you'll just have to read for yourself.
So did this dislike for the hero ruin the book for me? Almost. I kept thinking what an awesome book this could have been if Luc wasn't such an idiot. It did manage to entertain me, hold my interest even though there were times I was yelling at both Luc and Alyssa, and there was even a few moments that I had to wipe some tears from my eyes. How did that happen?
For those interested in the love scenes? Be prepared, Luc is not a gentle lover, and at times he uses Alyssa like a two dollar hooker. But she seemed to enjoy it, so what can I say? It would have been nice if he could have changed it up a bit, but the guy (and Alyssa) was just so insatiable, demanding, and rough! It was hard and fast, and then hard and fast all the time with him. This was exciting the first time (or two), but after a while of reading the same sex scenes over again, I started to skim a bit. Towards the end of the book there was finally a tender love scene, which conveyed the emotions between Luc and Alyssa that I was looking for.
It's so hard to rate a book you had high expectations for. I wanted to like Luc so much--I'm not used to disliking my heroes. I wanted to love him, but at times I could barely tolerate him. I'll have to give him credit for wising up at the end, but I'm not sure it's enough to declare this book a total winner. 3 1/2 stars.

Given this re-read spurred my rant on dumb Decadent, I felt I should put two more cents in.
Can't really add much to the initial review, but I think I'll keep this as a 4 star because the angst is just that good. Handsome, talented, sexy chef Luc gets it all wrong, ALL WRONG again and again, and has the equivalent of a Mount Everest grovel to make. Still not quite comfortable with Alyssa's sexuality, but it really is all show and no go. She is a one-man woman, poor girl. At least the idiot comes around, but there is a lot of slut shaming done which is ironic since he was such a manwhore, and was actually wooing a sweet, bland virginal virgin while he was having monumental sex with Alyssa.
This is going to be a rant. Synopsis have already been done etc...
Alyssa the heroine is a kickass h. She's an ex-stripper with quite a past that she has worked to put behind her and improve her life as well as give other women the opportunity to change as well. She's not perfect, but she's a admirable.
The H, Luc, is a pretty boy chef with a mighty and magic p, and is without a doubt one of the dumbest heroes EVER. If there is a wrong decision to make, a conclusion to jump to, Luc's there jumping in with both feet. Luckily for him and us, he's cute, hot and knows how to grovel as well as cook. He's apparently good at sex as well. The other alpha guys in the series are constantly giving him crap for making stupid decisions about one woman or another which he deserves 100%.
Alyssa and Luc are not why I am writing this review. No, the real reason is about a secondary character from a previous book in the series, Kimber from Decadent. Kimber! Not even Kimberly. Get a whole name, girl. I hate this character soooo much. She was bad enough in Decadent where she wanted to get sexual experience in a menage-a-trois of which one participant is Luc while staying a virgin (roll my eyes) so she could impress her loser rocker boyfriend. Now these two concepts are not that compatible: "virgin" and "menage". Yeah, yeah, I know about the Shayla Black's whole Masters of Menage series, but their goal is for the h NOT be a virgin sooner rather than later.
In this book, Kimber I really hate her, Kimber that is. I don't know why. No, I do know why. She's a prissy, menage-a-troising hypocrite.
Wicked Ties is one of my all-time favorite erotic reads, and I loved Decadent as well, so I was really looking forward to Luc’s story in Delicious. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations, mostly because both Luc and Alyssa (and some side characters too) made me so violently furious at times that I wanted to get my head smack on or throw the book across the room.
A couple of alternate titles for this could be: “A Chef, a Stripper, and a Baby” or “The Arrogant Dick, the Wishy-Washy Doormat, the Creepy Bouncer, and Baby Makes Four”.
The list of people I wanted to slap in this book was a mile long.
Luc, with his condemnatory, snobbish ‘strippers are all unfeeling, uneducated whores only good for hardcore f**cking’ and ‘I have to marry someone who’s pure as snow and goes to Bible study regularly, even if I’m not attracted to them, in order to be a father’ crap was just ridiculous.
Alyssa was a strong, smart, independent, confident woman in so many ways, but at the same time, her relentless pursuit of Luc, a man who so clearly judged and treated her like a whore, was pathetic.
And then you have possessive, clingy bouncer/bodyguard Tyler who sticks to Alyssa like a persistent, annoying rash constantly causing trouble for Luc and Alyssa. Argh!
Oh yeah, and some creepy stalker and baby drama thrown in, too. I swear, was there anyone not stalking Alyssa in this book?!?!
But Shayla Black is a great writer and can pen some seriously scorching hot, ‘delicious’ly erotic love scenes, which is why I still rated this 4 stars, despite the fact that the H/H made me crazy with frustration. I’m really looking forward to cold, dark, and mysterious Hunter’s (who was just about the only character in this that I didn’t want to smack) story in Surrender to Me.
Content warning: There’s a graphic, violent rape attempt.

I Really liked this book, it was a sensual, sexy thriller that kept my interested all the way through. Luc and Alyssa had one night of HOT Steamy Sex a while back and since then either one of them could stop thinking about the other. For Luc it was a scary thing because he was not looking to fall in love with a strip dancer/ strip club owner. Luc is looking for a woman to marry. He desperately wants a child the only thing is, as a child himself he had a fever that made his sperm very low count to the point that the doctors say that he will not ever father a child.
The book starts off with Luc coming back to Alyssa because he made a promise to her to cook for the opening of her new restaurant. Luc is a celebrity chef and with his help the restaurant would take off with flying colors. He has no intention of getting involved with Alysaa because she is not mommy material and does not fit into his future.
Alyssa has different plans. She wants Luc in the worse way and does everything she can to get him back in her bed. She wins that round and once they get it on, it's HOT!
Alyssa also has a stalker and this drives Luc crazy. Through out the book, this stalker strikes out with different things.
Luc has a very bad problem with trust were Alyssa is concerned. He thinks that she is sleeping with her body guard who is obviously in love with her. The body guard is always touching and kissing her when ever Luc is around. This make's Luc even more sure that she is sleeping with him. No matter what Alyssa say's he will not trust her so she ends up telling Luc to leave because she has already falling in love with him and he keeps breaking her heart with what he thinks about her.
Luc goes back home and takes back up with the woman who he was dating. She would be the perfect mom material and plans on asking her to marry him but he just can't see himself making love with her. He can't get Alyssa out of his mind. A few weeks go by and Alyssa shows up. He is so happy too see her. When they finally get a lone, she tells him that she is pregnant and that Luc is the father. She is willing to let him into the child's life if he wants but is willing to raise the child on her own. Luc automatically thinks it is the body guards child. He wants to be a father and he has A lot of feelings for Alyssa so he asks her to marry him without mentioning that he believes the child is not his. Alyssa takes a few days to make her decision but she decides that she will marry him thinking one day that maybe he will fall in love with her also.
They get married and Luc still thinks she is sleeping with the body guard. This puts a lot of stress on her because at the same time the stalker is getting out of control. While Luc is away taping his new cable show across the country, the stalker strikes again tearing their bedroom apart. She calls her body guard and he comes and takes her away. She is so tired and stressed out that she ends up falling asleep at his place and in his bed forgetting to call Luc. By this time Luc finds out that their house was broken into and that Alyssa is missing. He comes home as fast as he can and does everything he can to find her. When he does find her he thinks that she was once again sleeping with the body guard.
Man, Luc sure had problems with trusting her. No matter what she said he did not believe her.
Alyssa finds out from someone that Luc can't father children and that is the last straw. She knows the child is his and that he thinks it is not even though he never said a word. She packs him up and ships him off yet again. While he is away annulment papers show up. She wants to end the marriage even though she loves him. He realizes that the child is not everything he wants and that Alyssa is the most important thing. He has since seen a different doctor and has been told that yes even though it would be extremely hard he could get a woman pregnant. He now knows that the child is his, so he goes back to tell her that.
He shows up at their house one night and hears her scream from out side. She has changed the locks on the house and he can't get in. He calls the body guard who then can also hear her screaming from over the phone. The body guard tells him how to get inside. Luc gets inside and of course they both end up saving the day when all is said and done.
Now the big time groveling comes in once the bad guy is gone. Luc has papers written up giving her full custody of the child and allowing himself very little time with the child. He wants her to know that she is more important to him than the child and tells her he loves her. She finally believes this and they end up staying together, sigh.
I did not explain this book as good as it disserves. I'm terrible at writing reviews but if this review sounds good to you, I think you should give this book a try.

Delicious was such a treat to read! I’m not usually into the whole baby mama drama, but I think this series is an exception because I’ve come to love all the characters in their own special way.
Alyssa is by far my favourite heroine in this entire series! I loved the fact that she understood her feelings for Luc from the very beginning and knew exactly what she wanted to do. She had ambitions, brains and an inner strength that I really admired. Her past is a haunting one but she still is able to remain strong and run two businesses with ease. I admired her courage to stand up against her fears and her strength to hang on when things got tough for her. She’s got all the makings for being the perfect heroine!
Luc was also one of my favourite characters in Decadent! There were some moments when I was frustrated by his choices, but that’s all part of the experience because we readers know things that both of them didn’t. There are a lot of misunderstandings in this one and I just kept wishing that they would TALK TO EACHOTHER FOR ONCE! I was cheering for them since the beginning and while their story was a rollercoaster ride, it was a great one!
I’m sensing a trend here in this series. Not only is there wicked hot sex, but there’s also a lot of crazy motherfuckers who like to stalk women! In this book alone, there are three stalkers! But in all honestly, I’ll admit I really, really enjoyed finding out who the stalkers were. It fits with the storyline and definitely makes it more fast-paced and end-of-your-seat good!
And then there’s Tyler, whom I just adored! I am so happy he’s going to be getting his own book and I cannot wait to see what Black has in store for him!
I love love LOVE this series!!!
This picture reminds me of Luc and Alyssa, though he's got longer hair and Alyssa is blonde. But the kitchen setting is perfect! MMm mmm, DELISH!
In the second book in the series - Decadent - Alyssa (platinum blonde bombshell owner of a strip club) and Luc (celebrity chef) enjoyed a detailed sexual interlude. It was obvious that there was something between the two. This is their story.
DELICIOUS starts 3 months after their one night stand. Luc never called her back after that night. Alyssa hopes that they can hook up again and maybe start something for real. Unfortunately, Luc is looking to marry and has been dating a school teacher. There is no way Luc has a future with Alyssa because she is nothing like his mom and Luc has a classic madonna-whore complex. For him, stripper = whore and he makes his attitude quite clear to her. It makes for unpleasant reading during the first half because Luc is a raging butthole who never misses an opportunity to alternately either treat her as a piece of ass or a piece of shyte.
And Alyssa taking all this crap for such a long time just makes her look like a doormat.
Throughout the whole entire book, Luc is jealous of Alyssa's bouncer at her strip club and thinks they are boinking but lying about it. She insists that she has no romantic feelings for the bouncer but there is absolutely NO employer/employee boundaries between them. This bouncer gropes/molests Alyssa whenever she is near him, has a key to her home, barges into her bath at 3AM in the morning, and licks bathwater off her shoulder after telling her to stand up and get out of the tub. I thought this was utterly ridiculous.
Another thing that was ridiculous was the suspense subplot. It meandered in many different directions so I won't give it away but so many people stalk Alyssa and just go batshyte crazy on her that she is in one danger after another. It becomes bad soap opera after a while.
Well, at least the smut is good (as long as you don't mind a lot of cervix bumping.)
Having said all that, this is probably still the best written novel of the series so far. So um, yay?!
SOOO..I found this book on my iPad and was a little surprised that I hadn't read it yet since I really love this whole series (for the most part) I figured what the heck, I'd give it go...ya, now I know why I skipped this one over!
Luc was an asshole, a horrible judgmental nonredeemable (in my eyes) asshole. What happened to the Luc of the previous book??? This guy in noway resembled that Luc. This one said horrible things to Alyssa, this one thought she was a whore through like 90% of the book. This one This one never bothered to even take the time to discuss anything with Alyssa, and always assumed the worst. OMG I hated Luc!
Even his frigging grovel behavior at the end couldn't redeem his character to me. Alyssa should have dumped his sorry excuse of an ass and got with Tyler! *lol* I also had a problem with Alyssa, I mean when we love someone we give them a lot of leeway with their behavior, we forgive a lot, but how or WHY for that matter would you want to forgive (or be in a relationship) with a guy who thinks you are a whore that sleeps with everyone for favors, who thinks you are She should have kicked him to the curb from word GO!
OK, so all that being said, I STILL love this author's writing, she sucks me into her books and gives me a ton of feels (I'll admit it, I cried!) Even though I loathed Luc, I still found myself turning the pages to see where this would lead!
Enjoy the following gifs in honor of the asshole called Luc...
I really liked this book and would have rated it 4 stars but I really thought Luc was a prick for most of the book. I just wanted to reach into the book and smack him upside the head!!
In the previous book Luc and Alyssa sent a scorching hot night together after which he promptly left, sending her flowers the next day. Part of the deal with them spending the night together had Luc coming back for a week to guest chef in the new restaurant Alyssa was set to open. Alyssa is wanting to take her life in a different direction and is hoping the restaurant will help her even though her other business is a success, it is a strip club where often she performs.
Fast forward 3 months and Alyssa can't get Luc and their night together out of her mind. She calls to remind him of their deal, reluctantly he comes back to town. He too can't get her out of his mind, but he is ready to settle down, get married, have kids, dog, white picket fence, the whole schebang, but in that plan there is no place for a stripper or even a former stripper. Sadly the moment that Luc sees Alyssa all he can think of is their former night and he realizes what a big problem the coming week is going to be. Alyssa compounds the problem by having the hotel loose his reservation giving him no place to stay but her place. Here is where all the fireworks start to happen.
Luc basically thinks that Alyssa is a whore, even though she said when they spent the night together previous she told him that he was the first man she had sex with in 2-3 years. But Luc sees her strip and her over protective bouncer/bodyguard, who has made his interest in her blazingly clear, even though Alyssa doesn't feel that way about him. No matter what she tells Luc he thinks that she is lying.
Since Alyssa is in a business that many people feel is morally wrong she is running into trouble with a stalker. As the stalker strikes escalate Luc's jealous feelings do too when Alyssa turns to her bouncer for help and not Luc. Things start to go more and more crazy and painful events from Alyssa's past come to light, making Luc feel like as ass, which he should.
As time goes on Luc is then confronted with issues from his past that could destroy what little relationship the 2 have established. With both past problems rearing their heads that could be the end of either of them. In the end the bad guys are caught and Luc comes to his senses almost at the cost of all that he holds dear.
Wow, this book was incredibly bad. Pretty much every premise in this book is unbelievable, both romantically and just in life in general For example, on page 33, Luc essentially calls Alyssa a whore but she's still conspiring to get him to sleep with her?! Ugh. I couldn't stand this book. If I could give this book negative stars, I would.
Holy hell. If I thought I'd read Erotica before this, I was sadly mistaken. Delicious tells the continuing story of Luc Traverson, a famous chef, and Alyssa Devereaux, a stripper turned business owner. In the previous book, starring Luc's cousin Deke and his now-wife Kimber, Luc makes a deal with Alyssa: take part in a ménage with him and Deke in exchange for any culinary favor she might require. Taking advantage of the deal, Alyssa partakes of six hours of fantastic sex with Luc upon Deke's departure and makes him promise to work as chef in the kitchen of her new restaurant for its opening week. This is where the story continues in Delicious. Throughout his week there, they have mind-blowing sex, have an on-again-off-again love-hate relationship, and Alyssa acquires a stalker who makes threats against her life. After he leaves and goes back to his "normal" life where he has a "normal" girlfriend who fits his idea of having a "normal" family, Luc continues to pine for Alyssa. Until the day she comes back into his life. And tells him that she's pregnant. He has always wanted a baby and, even though he firmly believes that the baby is not his because his doctor told him he had too low of a sperm count to have children, he jumps at the chance to marry Alyssa. Even though they are married and both realize that they love each other, they still have trouble trusting each other and adequately expressing their feelings. One night when Luc is out of town, Alyssa comes home to find their bedroom trashed and calls Tyler, her friend, bodyguard, and the man who makes no secret of his love for her and jealousy of Luc. After frantically searching for her and calling out all his friends to help, Luc finds her at Tyler's house. In his bed. In nothing but the man's t-shirt and her thong. Naturally, he freaks out, thinking she cheated on him, and after a frightening sexual experience, Alyssa finally tells Luc about how her stepbrother, Joshua, raped her when she was fifteen. When Luc goes out of town next, he leaves his friends on a constant rotation for watching her. During one of those watches, Tyler and Hunter both get shot and the councilman attempting to close her club burns it to the ground, almost taking her with it. While in the hospital, Kimber accidentally lets slip Luc's sterility secret to Alyssa, and understandably upset, Alyssa kicks Luc out and refuses to see or talk to him. On Thanksgiving, he receives annulment papers and drives to see her. Luckily, he arrives just in time because the stalker has broken into her house again in order to rape and murder her. In the end, Luc and Alyssa kill Joshua (the stalker, if you didn't catch that). In an attempt to prove how much he really loves Alyssa, he gives her custody papers, saying she could have full custody of their baby. Finally, they totally and completely admit their feelings and decide to stay together forever and work out any future problems, living happily ever after.
Okay, first thing I want to address: the sex. Hot. Damn. This has to be one of the sexiest books I've ever read. The sex scenes lasted whole chapters, sometimes more, and I have to say that they were definitely come of my favorite parts. Luc and Alyssa were so terrific together and I loved their passion and chemistry, inside and outside the bedroom. Damn if I didn't wish that was me he was having sex with.
Luc...Ohhhh, Luc, how I love you so...I'm not even exactly sure what to say about this man. He is one of the most delicious males. Despite his jealousy and refusal to admit his true feelings for Alyssa, he was amazing. In all parts of his life, he is some part dominant, some part tender, intelligent, and so many other things. His desire to have a baby and family, while often frustrating because it inhibited his relationship with Alyssa, was sweet and made me love him more. I loved how possessive and protective her was of Alyssa while at the same time being tender and loving. The only thing that sucks is how long he insisted that Alyssa kept lying to him and how many times he basically called her a whore.
I loved Alyssa. She was funny, intelligent, creative, and I loved how she did everything she could to seduce Luc back to her bed. I felt sympathy for her when everyone, particularly Luc, treated her badly for her profession. I celebrated in her victories when she showed the people around her that she wasn't just a no-account stripper. However, I hated, absolutely HATED, that she let Tyler touch her so intimately; it grated on my nerves that anyone but Luc was touching her that way.
Speaking of Tyler...I wanted to punch his face every single time he came into the story. Even after Alyssa told him that she loved Luc he relentlessly tried to convince her otherwise. He was so smug when Luc came to his house and found Alyssa in his bed and I was really hoping that Luc, Jack, or Hunter would hit him or something. So, that being said, I was very, very satisfied when Luc said that he got a punch in on the dick when Tyler prevented Luc from talking to Alyssa.
I'm pretty sure I almost cried when Peter tried to rape her, which he might as well have since he put his nasty fingers inside her. Primpton was a creep and disgusting. I mean, seriously. Taking pictures of the poor girl while she's having sex with Luc?! Ew. Joshua I wanted to kill. I knew the stalker was him, even if I didn't know his name, as soon as we found out that she was raped as a kid, but once she actually told Luc about it, my suspicions were confirmed. And it really sucks that Tyler didn't say anything about it possibly being Joshua once it all started happening.
Overall, this book was utterly fantastic and deserves all five of the stars I gave it. Really, if I could give it more, I would. Now I definitely need to get my hands on the other books so I can read them, too.

I had such high hopes for this book with the way Luke and Alyssa were set up in Wicked Lovers #2. But frankly, I just didn't like Luke after awhile. I knew going into the book that he didn't think very highly of Alyssa regardless of the mutual attraction, but I was really hoping that he wouldn't be so caught up in that until the bitter end.
My feelings on this book (other than my distinct disdain for the leading man) are quite similar to the other books in the Wicked Lovers series. I think there is a great storyline here, lots of potential, but I don't particularly like how Black choose to play it out. Alyssa had the makings of a very deep, complex and powerful character (going from how she was described in the first and second books of this series) but that potential was never fully realized in her own story. And the potentially powerful tension and relationship development that could have occurred between Alyssa and Luke also seemed to fall flat. It's a shame really.
Something a little different that I've noticed is that Shayla Black writes an interesting compound story. When other authors make the story so that 1 plus 2 equal 3, Black writes more in the vain of 1+4+6+5 minus 2*9 equals 3. It's nice that the stories don't end where others might have because you can't really guess how the HEA will occur and what other bumps will be encountered along the way.
All in all, this book was just OK in my opinion. A great premise but you almost want to just give up on the story with how it actually plays out.
Is it worth the read? I would say probably not (shocker, I know) unless you are a revisionist and don't mind re-imagining the story - or if you're a fanfic writer and want to reinterpret the events (and then send me a copy, I'm sure I'd love it).
What can I say? Luc is an **** and Alyssa who I did not like in the first book, she seem to be to hard for Luc who wanted a baby so badly.
Well the way Luc acted in this book all I can say is RUN Alyssa in the other direction, away from Luc, because what a momma boy with issues, Luc to have sex with some one you think is a slut speaks of your own issues with the females period.
To have a girlfriend (ring intended) back home and sleep with some one you think is a slut, yeah nice Hero we have here, with very loose boundaries.

This was four stars for me. I liked the story and the characters. I liked the little twists and turns although I did figure out a few of the major ones before they happened. Shayla Black is one of my favorite Erotic Romance authors but this one had a little too much narrative at times for me. which was repetitive. I know there are those that don't like Luc but he is one of my favorite Shayla Black characters as is Alyssa. I thought there were a few little inconsistencies that should have been tied up much sooner than they were. Shayla Black always writes a wonderful plot, great dialogue and it is wrapped up in erotica. I am glad I read this third part of the series and I might have to go back and remind myself of book 2 before moving on. If you are an erotica fan and are following this Wicked Lovers series then this is book you shouldn't miss.
I put off reading this after I was a little disappointed with "Decadent", and I didn't care much for Luc and Alyssa. I didn't have any expectations about this, and seeing as I put it on my favorites list is a big surprise, and obviously it's my favorite in this series so far, I have yet to read "Surrender To Me".
This really tore my heart out. It was emotional; tension, anxiety, and a heavy feeling coiled in my gut every time Luc let his jealous dick do the talking, instead of listening to Alyssa.
From the previous book, we see Luc as someone who wants to settle down with a respectable wife and have kids, be a father to make him whole. I really hated him. I mean, I do understand his desire and yearning for a family but he's quick to judge a person on the outside. During the times he was sexually attracted to Alyssa, it never crossed his mind, or he never even considered her as mother material, that she's not what he needs. He has this image of the perfect wife, with decent and docile written all over her, and because of this thinking he hurt a lot of people in the way - without meaning to. Every time he held back from Alyssa, even when she bared her soul to him, I hated him and I seriously think he needs to grow some balls, especially the part where Alyssa revealed a secret she never shared with anyone before, and he withheld his sterility, he just scored negative in my book. No more brownie points for Luc!
Alyssa...what she went through her life growing up honed her into who she is now. There were a lot of surprises along the way and that made me admire her more. Her trust issues were understandable after having suffered that much from betraying friends. With numerous stalkers threatening her regularly, she brushed it off as non-life-or-death, until the attacks became more personal and wrathful. The only thing she's guilty of is loving Luc too much to still give her heart to him after all he has done. Because of Luc's crazy jealousy, his reasoning is clouded and he still couldn't shake the preconceived notion that she's a whore. It's difficult to convince someone otherwise when s/he made his/her mind up on something and it's clear that Luc only saw her as a good lay, because she's not what he needs.
As for the unexpected surprise that made Luc marry her? I still hated him because he still thought the worst of her. He never got over his jealousy to really hear her and listen to what she's saying - that he's the only one she wants and the only one she became intimate with.
To be fair to Luc's character, I appreciated him taking care of her and giving her a wedding, and a wedding night to remember. He's thoughtful and possessive, he even banished her monsters. His timing sucked though, to tell Alyssa how much she matters to him, and that he loves her, and has fallen in love with her.
The mystery surrounding the stalkers (yes, more than one) left a lot of suspicion on Tyler. I was almost positive it was him because she wouldn't give him the time of the day but the author clearly thought and wrote about it really well. It's amazing how love truly conquers all (I hate to borrow a cliche), because when Luc realized Alyssa was adamant on ignoring him and casting him from her life, his passion for his cable show was doused. I'm glad for the ending and I think Luc had enough groveling for them to be together. It was clear that he thought things over and started being a better person and a better man for her.
I still like Alyssa, she's one of the most kickass and resilient heroines I ever read about. I loved the title, the sex scenes were delicious, especially the wedding night, literally and figuratively.
Again, Shayla Black has her characters making mountains out of mole hills. Luc's huge secret/hidden shame is that he is supposedly unable to father a child. And in his eyes this makes him less of a man. Luc's baby obsession and focus on a "suitable" wife and the white picket fence seemed a litte overdone/ridiculous.
I can't remember the last time I loathed a charatcer more than Tyler. What a jackass! The liberties he took with Alyssa, his employer, were jaw dropping. And the fact that Alyssa allowed it? Uh, any surprise that Luc got the wrong idea?
Could one woman have any more stalkers/attackers? Seriously? A psycho step-brother, an overzealous frat boy customer, a lunatic religious zealot. It quickly became soap opera material.
Lastly, the constant withholding of information and keeping secrets became so annoying. Everything could have been sorted out quickly and easily if the two main characters had just been honest with each other. But I guess then there wouldn't be any reason for 350 pages of lies, secrets, judgments and assumptions.
OK, I love the books in the Wicked Lovers series, all the people are a little broken and the stories help heal them, that being said, I was really frustrated by what a jerk Luc was in this book, I really liked him in Decadent and I like Alyssa so I had some trouble watching him be so callous, but like any good HEA it ended wonderfully. All in all I would have given it 4 1/2 stars if I could have. I really enjoyed it but for the frustration Luc brought me.
It didn't take me long to finish this book; and this time, it wasn't because I skipped the sex scenes. Heh. This book was hot! As in, Ghost chilli hot in the Scoble scale. Even so, I was still not as enamoured as I expected to be with this series but I'm going to plow through; because no matter how many times I quibble and complain about these books, I can't deny that I'm addicted. I've said this before; Ms. Black can burn off the pages with her steamy erotica and wouldn't you know it? I can't look away.
The Gist: After a steamy night spent with Alyssa, Luc worked very hard at avoiding her. As far as Luc was concerned, there's no room in his life for the sex goddess. It doesn't matter if he can't be around the woman without getting all hot under the collar, or that he couldn't even feign interest in the women whom he thinks are the right 'marriage material'; he just refused to acknowledge the fact that Alyssa got under his skin and in the bad way. A week working with Alyssa is a not a good idea but he can't turn back on his promise and crush the woman's dream to get out of the stripping business. Especially when he learned that her life is constantly threatened by men who lust after her.
Alyssa has it all planned out: seduce Luc to her bed and make him want her enough so he'd never leave. But she didn't anticipate Luc's steadfast determination for a future married to the 'right' woman, have 2.5 kids with her and white picket fences. She also didn't realize just how discriminatory the man was to a woman like her whose part time profession was disrobing in front of men. He simply didn't trust her as far as he can zip up his pants when she was around. They can burn up the sheets but she doesn't see a future with a man whose idea of the right woman doesn't involve money earned in the flesh industry. Even more so to a woman whose past keeps knocking on her door and intent on ending her life.
The Review: Don't get me wrong, this book was light years better than its predecessor. But Luc didn't really give me the warm fuzzy feeling, ya know? Actually, he was one discriminatory, Alyssa is such a slut-whore opinion away from being neutered. I'm not kidding. I wanted to rip his balls off and feed it to him. She was good enough to warm his bed but because she's a former stripper-turned-club owner, he thinks that he's too good for her. Excuse me while I hunt down a pair of dull, rusted pair of scissors.
I wanted Alyssa to run as far away from this guy and actually run to Tyler's, her bodyguard, arms. She definitely deserved someone as good and most definitely not Luc. He did have an about-face eventually but by then, it was hard to like him.
Alyssa was a dichotomy, in my opinion. She's strong, independent, beautiful but man, was she weak when it comes to Luc! Okay, so maybe I can't really blame her, love tends to weaken the strong it seems like.
As far as story-telling goes, I'm sensing a pattern here; Ms. Black likes you to believe that when the initial perp is caught (in this case, Alyssa's creepy stalker), the story ends there. But she's actually not satisfied until at least two more suspects play with her like a cat plays with a mouse before it eats it. So yeah, for the next three remaining books to this series, I guess I'm not going to rest easy until I flipped to the end of the book.
The Verdict: Shayla Black's scorching tales have just enough enjoyable qualities that will distract you - even for a tiny second - from their flaws. Regardless of how many times I wanted to make a Eunuch out of Luc, I still enjoyed this book.
Chocolate Mousse and Champagne for everybody! lol Ok so Delicious is the 3rd book in the Wicked Lovers series. In this one we have celebrity chef hottie Luc (Deke's cousin) and Alyssa (Strip Club owner and friend of Jack) who after their hot sexy night together in Deke's book Decadent find their way back to each other as Luc is honoring a pact he made with Alyssa about helping her out at her new restaurant business for a week. The sexual tension and the feelings ignite almost immediately. Luc is still hung up on his ideal wife and baby scenerio yet he is drawn to Alyssa who is in his eyes anything but the ideal candidate. Or is she? Alyssa is trying to seduce Luc because she can't stop thinking about him since their time together. Pair that with a psycho stalker out to kill Alyssa. Luc and Alyssa are stuck together as he tries to keep her safe and feelings grow and pasts are revealed. We also see Jack and Morgan, Deke and Kimber, and Hunter again. We are introduced to Tyler who adds to Luc's jealousy between him and Alyssa and the cause of many bickerings between the two central characters. Of course the sex in this book is great. Some parts I wanted to smack Luc on the head to tell him to wake up and trust her. I also wanted to say life doesn't always work out as we plan and sometimes that is for the better you adorable fool. lol All in all another great sexy book (sans menage in this one btw) by Shayla Black. :)
I'm not very impressed. I got the impression the author of this book had a certain number of sex scenes she wanted to write, and then constructed a silly story to write around those sex scenes (which were somewhat unpleasant, to be honest). Because the story is silly, really silly, and extremely uninteresting and repetitive (how many stalkers and attacks did she manage to squeeze in again?). And the never failing rough childhood/youth, which seems to be compulsory for this genre. Bleh.
The book wasn't entertaining enough to make up for its literary shortcomings, but it did make me giggle when Alyssa said something "without declension" or whatever it was, because I immediately thought she lost track of her grammar. My biggest issue was probably that both the main characters were very unappealing in my eyes, and the whole wanting a child-thing? That just made me wince every time. Finally, the author kept repeating certain things from both of their backgrounds, as if the reader would have forgotten them after 50 pages. I can almost get that when it is done in a series of books (=True Blood), but when it's in the SAME book?
OMG could two characters jump to the wrong conclusions a little bit more?? I was pulling my hair out with this one. They didnt communicate about the most basic to the most cosmic things! I gave the book five stars becuase it still dragged me in hook, line and sinker. Luc was so adorable in the last book that I couldnt wait to read his own book. I was glad that this book wasnt so into bongage or menage' as the first two and there was no anal. It was more about his trying to manage his feeling for Alyssa and trying to get past what he thought she really was. Alyssa wasnt much better than Luc in commicating her feelings. They were both so in love with each other but neither wanted to let the other in on that little secret. She was a major flirt with Tyler and really needed to reign that in. As usual in most the wicked lovers series there was a stalker. I must say that Shayla BLack did a great job of keeping the stalker a secret. Not until the very end did it all come together. I look forward to the next in the series.
WOW, I really enjoyed this book. I wanted Luc to have his HEA so bad since it didn't work out for him in the previous book. He had issues which thank God he was able to overcome. He is one intense, stubborn, sexy man. I went from wanting to strangle him one minute to thinking how lucky Alyssa was to have a man like him desire her that much the next. Alyssa is a very likeable character. She is misunderstood but strong. She was a great person to get to know. I loved how Luc helped her with the resturant and how he always cooked for her and took care of her even when he was angry at the situation. I kind of got bored with all the different plots of people trying to do her in, but the love story was great. The fact he was so torn between not wanting to have feelings for her and not being able to stay away from her intensified their relationship, and just made me want them to be together that much more. The sex in this book was smokin hot which is always a huge plus IMO. On to read the next one in the series.
This was a 4.5 star read for me. Let me warn you though if you are hoping that Luc will be the sweetie that he was in book two, you will be disappointed.
With that said, I really did end up liking him a lot. He does something toward the end of the book that is so amazingly unselfish, when he has been a selfish judgmental asshat though out the rest of the book that he manages to redeem himself.
I really like Alyssa a lot. Her strength and tenacity to not fit the stereotypical stripper role were commendable.
There is a lot of talk of secrets in this book. I found this aspect a bit weak where Luc's secret was concerned. It just wasn’t as big a deal in my eyes. He should have been up front, but of course then there wouldn’t have been a story then.
Alyssa secret was horrible. The fact that she survived after what happen to her made me like her all the more.
IMHO best book of the series so far, too bad we have to wait until March of 2011 for the next book….
