It's the handbook no half-blood should be without: a fully illustrated, in-depth guide to gods, monsters, and all things Percy. This novelty companion to the best-selling series comes complete with trading cards, full-color diagrams, and maps, all packaged in a handy, "manual-size" POB with a crisp, magnetic flap enclosure.
The Ultimate Guide is a good book for Percy Jackson fans, but you can get a little bored of it. It's packed with information about Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and even monsters he fought! I liked that you could take a quiz about who your god parent would be, but I didn't like that the Ultimate Guide has a whole section about Percy's "background". It took up a lot of the book, and most of that information is in the first book. On the positive side, I really like the pictures in the book, and I like the section about all of the gods and goddesses. My favorite is the section about life at camp. There is a double page picturing Camp Half-Blood and on the next page, Percy's camp schedule. It's kind of cool to see what life at camp half blood would be like. It also has a great front cover. I saw it in the book store and was immediately drawn to the shiny holographic cover. It opens up with a magnetic clip thingy which also made it look cool. The Ultimate Guide is great if you are a Percy Jackson fan that wants to learn a little bit more about Percy Jackson and his life.
There is no new information in this book. Its a list of characters, gods, and creatures with some excerpts from the books and lists of facts. Just a recap of things we already learned while reading the series. But it has a nice format with glossy coloured pictures and character cards. Good to collect for big fans, which is why I bought it, but not as good as Camp Half-Blood Confidential.
Was this honestly written by Rick Riordan??? It gets so many things wrong! First off, Sally's mother's name is Estelle. Percy specifically says that, in The Lighting Thief, he has never made a grade higher than an C. Artemis is an option for a godly parent!!!!!! I never thought i wouldn't like a book by Rick Riordan. But here we are.
Back in the day when I thought I'd absolutely love this series, I invested not only in the illustrated edition of volume 1, but also in 3 companion books. This is one of them.
It's a small (DIN A-5) book with a magnetic clasp that contains character cards, maps and many explanations about Percy, Camp Half-Blood, the campers there, mythological creatures, artifacts, the underworld, important places, and the labyrinth. You can even take a quiz to determine which Greek god or goddess most likely would be your parent.
One definite criticism is that the book spends so much time re-telling Percy's background story (most of book 1 is already about that).
Cool is the style of this as it looks like a kind of smash book or case file, with photographs, "hand-written" notes etc). Honestly, I liked the look of this:
Definitely a nice addition for readers who enjoy a deeper immersion in the series' world, written in a very accessible (read: funny, light, as if penned by students of Camp Half-Blood) way.
I’m sure this would be a fun interactive guide for someone brand new to the Percy Jackson series, or perhaps for a younger audience. But it didn’t really have any new information for me and just reiterated things I already was aware of.
This is a nice addition to the Percy Jackson world and an introduction to mythology for kids.
It is gloss paper and contains tidbits about Percy Jackson and his world along with the bare necessities of mythology. So when someone speaks of a god/goddess, creature and other beings: you will instantly know who they are talking about. :)
This is also super easy to read, funny and makes mythology fun.
Now I need to finish the Trials of Apollo soon - so I can continue Percy's adventures further.
So I got bored at some parts just because it was repeating information I already knew. But it was still a cool read and was super fast and easy and had a ton of pictures.
Sums up the most important information and includes a lot of visuals like character art and maps. I guess it would be pretty helpful to people who are interested in a little more background info regarding the mythological aspects and/or people who want a quick overview of the fictional world and its characters.
This was a pretty complete guide of the world of Percy Jackson and greek mythology. But to be honest there just hasn’t much new information so I wasn’t that interested. It’s still fun to dive into that magical world again!
Second Time Read (March 2016): Song: You Can't Buy Fame from Lost and Found Fav Character: Percy duh Ship: Pernico Fav Part: the part when i was a godly parent of my godly parents duh
I legit got the same results from the quizzes as i did last time i read it TWO YEARS AGO. Does that mean there's a problem with the book, or with me?...
I'm nearly finished the series :(
First Time Read (April 2014): Finished it last night! It was the only Percy Jackson book I hadn't had, or read. I got it last night, so I just had to read it right away! IT WAS AMAZING! I took the are you a demigod quiz, and got a definite demigod... I'M A DEMIGOD! Then I took the Who Is Your Parent quiz, and got Aphrodite, Athena and Apollo! WHICH IS WHAT I ALWAYS SAY! Unreal, right?
A nice over all book. The only problem is that I just feel they tried to stretch out the subject too much.Let's go over traits that I did like and then talk about diction, literary elements, and Opinions. The book was a nice edition to anybody who was just catching up to the Percy Jackson series. They may have missed some parts, but this book has it all.It describes all the characters Percy comes in contact with, that were made before this book, good or bad. Rick Riordan makes me proud to be one of his "followers". There is never a book he'll write that'll disappoint me, except the Kane series. Diction- Rick Riordan, one of the best writer's in America, doesn't surprise me that he has one of the most exquisite vocabulary's ever. He knows just the right word to use every time without going overboard. He's so good that my 4th grade teacher used him as example for his writing. Let's have some examples: "Nancy Bobofit: freckled, red-headed kleptomaniac." (Riordan 18). Is there a reason not to love that? A lot of people don't even know what a kleptomaniac is (someone with an irrational urge to steal in the absence of an economic motive). One more citation: "Come now, Percy What you call Western Civilization. Do you think it's just an abstract concept? No, it's a living force. A collective consciousness that has burned bright for thousands of years." (Riordan 10). That's the kind of paragraphs my teacher read us. that's what he is famous for. Just simply being very active in the description field. Literary Craft- Rick is so good at being very many people at once. It's like he steps into an alternate dimension and writes about his life as Percy Jackson, boy demon slayer.I love it!!! I'll give you two examples if different characters talking and you can see for yourself. BEWARE! YOU MIGHT WANT TO COVER YOUR EYES. Percy-"I'm twelve years old. Until a few months ago I was a boarding student at Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids in upstate New York. Am I a troubled kid? Yeah. You could say that." (Riordan 12). Uncle Rich-"It breaks my heart to write this note, but I have no one else to turn to. I know how well you've been doing in high school and how hard you worked to get to college. But now I know there is nothing more the doctors can do to help me and my health insurance has run out. You're my only hope...could you take a semester or two off to look after your poor old uncle till he finally departs from this world?" (Riordan 13) *sniffle sniffle* Oh what? Yeah that's over. Didn't you see how both quotes made you wonder what happened to cause those situations? That's just the way Rick rolls diggity-dawg. Opinions- What's my favorite part(s)of the book? Since I don't pick favorites so I'll have two of the bets parts. My first favorite section is Percy Jackson's Beastiary. It has every monster mentioned, good or bad in the series before this book, from A-Z. They are described with a brief description and occasionally a picture for one of those lucky creatures. My next favorite part is the "Ten Signs you may be a Half-Blood". It's like a funny little pamphlet that gives ten major signs you or a loved one may be related to a god. What's even funnier is that there's another test to see which, if you "are", god you're related to. Conclusion- It was a great book and a fun book. It's just an "encyclopedia" so there is really nothing in there that makes you want to turn the page. Which I gave it four stars since you had to turn the page about 77 times. That's the only reason a star was stolen from the review. The book is just a great way for Percy lovers to get their memory back up again about the ol' Percy gang.
Perfect companion for the Percy jackson fans. It has good artworks, useful information, maps, characters cards, and just a lot of additional stuff around the Percy Jackson universe. A good add-on/bookish stuff that the fan will enjoy!
The information or the actual content of this book isn’t that good, because I read it when I’m almost finished with all the books from Camp-Half Blood, so I know the majority of the characters/plots and this is a must, because it has a lot of good and basic information, I personally didn’t enjoy it as much as I should’ve done it, because I already knew all of the things that are in it, So why read it again? but this book is from 2010 therefore is my fault, we just see the main characters from Percy Jackson and a couple of spoiler from that series, so I’d recommend it to read it after Percy Jackson and before The Heroes Of Olympus because at the end of this book we have the prophecy of the seven people that we see in the next series.
Although the content wasn’t nothing new, the art was brilliant and impeccable, therefore I gave it five stars.
I'd read it if I just want something related to this worls and that is short, or just a quick read.
It's a useful guide for recalling details and descriptions (characters, gods, monsters, weapons, etc.). While it doesn’t introduce anything new, it does include a few moments from Percy’s childhood and some of Sally’s past.
If you’re a fan of the series, this might be a bit repetitive since you already know most of the content, but it’s still a good refresher.
The official art makes me want to jump out the window.
Percy Jackson fans will not be disappointed with the newest book from Rick Riordan!!! Beautiful illustrations, cute quotes, interesting facts and more is what awaits you in this creative book!! Brimming over the top with Greek mythology, with book is a must!!!!
It's a very simple guide on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I remember enjoying it a lot when I was younger but now that I'm a little older it isn't as interesting. But I do really like the illustrations and the maps of the Underworld and Camp Half-blood.
You would definitely love this if you're really into Percy Jackson, there's literally EVERYTHING you need to know in this book. The only thing which puts me down about this book are the drawings!!
