Meh. Two plots running parallel to each other is never a good sign.
The first plot: A Colby Agency investigator, Jane Sutton, is trying to locate a man that doesn't want to be found. Troy Benson had saved a woman and her child and then promptly disappeared. Not the woman's husband wants to thank him properly, but first they have to find the hero and corroborate he doesn't have a criminal past.
Troy Benson is an eighty-something living the life in a nursing home. The thirty-something Troy Benson that Jane Sutton has found took on the old man's identity four years ago and is in hiding. Unfortunately Jane's investigation appears to have brought his past charging back and Jane is probably the only person who can help him. Pity he doesn't want her help...Or anything to do with her or the agency she works for.
Rather weak plot with more holes than a chunk of Elemental, bland characters, and rather banal action scenes.
The second plot: Someone wants to kidnap the granddaughter of Victoria Colby-Camp, the owner of the Colby Agency. This someone is apparently a bad guy from her (and her son's) past.
This second plot was obviously tied into the series and, since this is the first book of this series I've read, I had absolutely no clue as to what was going on. Victoria's son had been kidnapped in the past, apparently brainwashed into becoming a ruthless assassin yadda yadda yadda. Huh? Come again?
Anyway, the second, "kidnapping" plot was (though only three chapters long), distracting and had absolutely nothing to do with the bigger picture (involving Troy and Jane). Though it was strongest than the first, the fact that it brought up more questions than answers didn't sit well with me at all.
This romantic suspense novel has more twists and turns than corkscrew pasta. It kept me guessing up to the last page, and I couldn’t go to bed until I had finished reading.
Not actually a romance book. Included in a series and a little hard to follow the overarching story. Guy on the run, woman investigator finds him for completely different reason. Bad guys show up and they're both on the run.
This is another good one by Debra Webb about the Col by Agency. Victoria is worried about the threat against her granddaughter and Jane is looking for the hero who saved a wealthy man's family after a bad accident.
An action packed book that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
