Very interesting volume for a number of reasons. The introduction of Alfred, a comic foil akin to Laurel and Hardy, changes the storyline, punching some airholes in the shoebox. He only appears in a few stories though, were they just trying the idea out? The villains are a variety pack since Penguin and Joker have limited appearances. I wonder if the writers were questioning tone of the series. The bat plane is more prominent than the batmobile even though they remain mostly within city limits. This series also has frequent mentions of war shortages. I don’t remember them wearing their costumes under their clothes as much in prior episodes. They appear able to strip down ala Superman at the first sniff of danger. Some great panels and fun art too.
