Hirohiko Araki ( 荒木飛呂彦) is a Japanese manga artist. He left school before graduation from Miyagi University of Education.

He enjoys the baseball manga Kyojin No Hoshii (Star of the Giants); the video games Mario Kart and Bomberman; and likes Prince and other African-American singers, as well as jazz, rock, and rap.

He is a recipient the Tezuka Award for manga.

Este tomo tiene una de las peleas más sangrientas, rebuscadas, largas y desesperantes de toda la serie. Y sufrí en varias partes de la lectura por el destino de los personajes. En otras palabras: me encantó. Lástima que me comí un amague sobre el final. En el capítulo "Suzie Q. visita a su hija" pensé que por primera vez en mucho tiempo (¿o en toda la serie?) Jojo's iba a superar el test de Bechdel. ¿Pero de qué hablan madre e hija en las pocas páginas en las que interactúan? De su esposo/padre y de su nieto/hijo. En fin, la intención es lo que cuenta...

god this stand. this volume. these chapters. i remember watching this and getting emotional - the most emotional in the series as of yet - and reading it just brought back all of these feelings. you are telling me while polnareff is going through HELL the boys were just playing video games??? but seriously, avdol sacrificing himself after saying he wouldn't and saving polnareff AGAIN?? vanilla ice being a fucking broken stand and the villain only being defeated because he became a vampire. polnareff accepted fate but IGGY, the dog that "hated" the squad and had love-hate relationship with polnareff, also sacrificed himself... it was moments like this that really just made me FEEL for polanreff and this whole squad. the fucking clouds at the end??? beautiful beautiful volume.

Siento que hasta aquí llegó a su punto maximo el personaje de Polnareff, siendo un buen y grandioso personaje secundario me llegó al corazón.

Los otros personajes como Iggy, Abdul, Kakyoin, como siempre mencioné, me parecen buenos personajes, estables, lineales, pero que no son lineales en una mala manera, me gusta su desarrollo, Joseph me parece que ya llegó a un punto en donde es lineal, pero sin caer en el lado malo.

Jotaro sigue siendo un Jerry Stu, perfecto sin comparación, pero noto un poco de flaqueza en este punto.

Abdul e Iggy se fueron como los campeones que son, y Polnareff lo dio todo con tal de lograr su añorada hazaña y vencer al Vanilla Ice de la forma más poética: con la debilidad que odia su amado Dio. Tremendo volumen, llenísimo de emoción, una pelea ultra violenta y desconcertante.

I like Vanilla Ice and that was a cool fight, but what was the point of “resurrecting” Avdol just to kill him off again? He had a good death (and so did Iggy), but it’s still kind of annoying.

No matter what I have to say about this volume, it's pretty fuckin rad that they put in a guy called Vanilla Ice in the year 1992. I gotta wonder where Araki was learning about modern American pop/hiphop in Japan in the early early days of the internet. I guess it goes back to that endless curiosity I mentioned before.

Anyway, I don't really understand Vanilla Ice's powers. He's basically an invisible ball that sends anything it touches to hell? But I don't understand how it eats itself or how Vanilla Ice cuts his head off. I guess it's not a big deal since I understand the whole ball of death things, which is really what matters in this fight.

I'm pretty torn about how Avdol dies. He came back, didn't really do anything, and then dies buildup or meaning. I have to question the purpose of bringing him back at all. But at the same time I appreciate how suddenly and he does die. When people die in the real world, it's rarely with any satisfying buildup or under grand circumstances. In war you will die gruesomely and suddenly and very rarely on satisfying or meaningful terms. War is cruel, unfair, and the sheer brutality of battles makes no sense when you're in the thick of it. People you care about will die horribly for no reason, out of nowhere, and without closure. And Avdol's death is honest to that reality. So it's an issue I'm conflicted about.

What I'm not conflicted on is Avodl's last act. He talked a big talk about how they must leave each other behind, keep pushing forward, and avoid sacrificing themselves. But when push came to shove, Avdol gave his life to save Polnareff from such a fate. It's a great instance of actions speaking louder than words. Well done.

As for the fight itself, it was fine. It's hard to get a lot out of an enemy you can't see and who just makes holes in stuff. Put the sheer punishment Polnareff takes had me invested. It's gruesome and consequential in a way the preceding fights just weren't. And with how casually Avdol and Iggy die, it feels like Polnareff could easily be next. The whole volume is just this death march as the comedic relief character and his dog buddy try to defeat an enemy they cannot see and barely understand. It's pretty damn dark.

Admito que vi el animé primero (para el horror de Fefu), aunque a la fecha no llegaron a adaptar este tomo, pero me gustó lo suficiente como para leerme todo el manga cuando pueda.
Y aunque acá le haya cedido el protagonismo al nieto y esté peinando canas, sólo puedo decir ¡Cómo le entro a Joseph! <3
