CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

This volume was brilliant! At long last, our characters face off against Fei-Wang Reed, and Syaoran must fight against his image.
Okay, the moment when Syaoran's image kills him was so brilliantly executed, mostly thanks to Fai and Kurogane's reactions (especially Kurogane's quasi-frantic "OUTTA MY WAY!" Wow. I was shocked that Syaoran would be killed.
BUT THEN, NOPE! It was a ruse, devised by Syaoran's image, whom, it turns out, does have somewhat of a conscience. DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING AT ALL!
Absolutely incredible! Even the image's send off was well done!
On to volume 27!

I am shocked and speechless! Could not have predicted this! So much going on and so much revealed! This series is excellent!

We finally find out Watanuki's origins, created as a result for Syaoran turning back time. Someone had to fill in Syaoran's place in that time while he went back. But just typical of malevolent opportunist Fei Wang Reed, he kidnapped the now back to 7 year old Syaoran, copied and imprisoned him. I love Karogane and Fai, the both reassured Syaoran that they would have made the same choice, and that they share in some of the burdens. They are so awesome!

Now Syaoran, after all they all have been through, is finally back at the frozen moment he went back in time to redo. To save Sakura from Fei Wang Reed, instead of hesitate. I really thought the copy Syaoran killed original Syaoran, but it was actually his foot he stabbed. Didn't see it coming, and neither did Fei Wang. It was such an amazing moment! The magic scenes were beyond awesome! Why wasn't this animated to completion? Please complete the anime!

The start of the whole circus is getting revealed. Syaoran made a wish, as a desperate child, that locked a place in time, and set Fei-Wang Reed on his scent. We also find out how Watanuki and Syaoran are connected, and how our dear wish-fulfilling witch is entangled in it all.

Huh. That sure had some interesting answers for us. I think I'm starting to see how it all holds together now.

And I thought Pandora Hearts was confusing.... I didn't get the first part of the volume and the next part was kickass duel between Shaorans and that plot twist! Still, it gets 3 stars..

Review for complete series

Tsubasa is in a way a love letter to all of CLAMP's other works. I went into this having read almost all - definitely all relevant - series by CLAMP, so I can't say for sure, but I think this series is only half as fun if you haven't read the other works (preferably all). If you enjoy Easter Eggs and cameos, Tsubasa is an absolute treat.

For the longest time, Tsubasa was the longest manga series I owned; anything beyond 10 volumes makes me think twice as I find that most lengthy series just drag unnecessarily. However, it was impossible for me to say no to Tsubasa, Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura have been long-time favourite manga characters of mine, not to mention that I am generally very fond of CLAMP and all their big and small crossovers. Reading a story that combines almost their entire bibliography and with Sakura and Syaoran as the main characters was too good to say no to. It should also be mentioned that this series is heavily interwoven with xxxHolic's plot and should best be read alongside each other.

This Syaoran and Sakura are not the same from Cardcaptor Sakura (although the original Sakura makes a cameo). In essence, this is a story about travelling between dimensions - the same person can exist in different versions of themselves in different universes. Sakura and Syaoran travel between the different worlds - all very different - and meet characters and elements from all across CLAMP's other works. In fact, some characters appear more than once to highlight how the same being can exist and lead a different life in different worlds. It's really fun to see the characters from other stories living different lives, some are funny and some are bittersweet. CLAMP has killed off a fair amount of its characters in other works so it's nice to see some of them leading happier and peaceful lives.

In addition to meeting a whole lot of known characters, there are also a couple of Tsubasa original characters such as Fay and Kurogane who accompany Sakura and Syaoran on their travels. I've grown to love Fay and Kurogane almost as much as I love the other two - so while Tsubasa is very much a homage to other CLAMP works, it's also a very character-driven story with both Fay and Kurogane having intricate and deep personalities. I also have to express my apologies to Kurogane - I always expected not to like him because I'm not very fond of brawns-over-brains type of characters, but I was very wrong about him; great character, smart as well a strong and just a really great guy.

Being a work of CLAMP, it's almost needless to say that the art is beautiful. That being said, this is more of a shounen-esque series which also shows in the art with the somewhat oddly length limbs and a greater focus on action, weapons and muscles. I prefer shoujo art, but the facial art is much the same as other CLAMP works so I can absolutely live with that.

A downside of Tsubasa is plain and simple that it gets confusing. There are time skips, world switching, doubles across different series (xxxHolic) and rather vague motivations from the villain's side. At some point, I just decided to go with the flow rather than trying to make sense of every detail. There's a bit of a loose end, though I wouldn't exactly call it a band ending either. Now that they are working on a sequel, it'll be interesting to see where things will lead to next.

Either way, an absolute gem if you like CLAMP and crossovers, and Sakura, Syaoran, Fay and Kurogane are just a great team of characters - to be fair, Mokona is as much part of the team and deserves a mention too. Finally, I just love these characters.

This volume is probably my favorite just for seeing Watanuki (lol jk).

The beginning with the resulting price and travel of Syaoran and the involvement of Fei-Wang and Yuko is pretty confusing. I freaking lost it at the ending. Very good volume.

As expected, we’re now thrown into the midst of the final battle between Syaoran and his double, as controlled by Fei Wang Reed. The epic conflict is wonderfully drawn by Clamp, but I got a bit bored through the middle, as it just became a lot of the two combatants throwing attacks at each other. In the animated series I can see this working quite well, but in written form (and even illustrated) it becomes too much of the same thing and winds up blurring together. The finale is definitely worth the wait, though, since we see Syaoran’s double turn on his maker to help Syaoran pull off a class bait-and-switch move and run Fei Wang Reed through! The powerful magician doesn’t seem to die cleanly, though, so we’re still left wondering what will happen in the next set of chapters.

Capitulos 201-210
* RESUMEN EXPRESS CON SPOILER*

If I reread this series from the beginning would it be any less confusing and more consistent? I feel like the more I get into this final arc, the less previous established facts make sense. There are things that I feel like they spent time establishing, only to contradict and then completely forget about them. I'll reserve final judgment for when I finish the series, but there's a reason I stopped buying it as it came out. This volume wasn't bad, I just didn't feel it matched up continuity-wise with earlier volumes and they haven't done a good job of clarifying certain issues.

When they finally make it to the ruins, Fye, Kurogane, and Mokona learn about Syaoran's past, and the future he set in motion on a certain day. Did his decision cause a change of events? Or would things have remained the same no matter what?

Syaoran then faces off with clone Syaoran while Fye and Kurogane attempt to defeat Fei Wong Reid. But what happens at the end of this volume is as shocking as anything else in this story!

The plot thickens, it's finally coming to an end. Will Sakura be saved?

In a frozen moment of time, Syaoran vowed to make his wish a reality and save Sakura, despite being taken captive by Fei-Wang, and leaving a stranger to live his life back home - but at least he, Fai and Kurogane have returned to that moment, and not even Image Syaoran can stand in their way! CLAMP guarantees a barrage of emotion in this action-packed, heartbreaking entry, where prices are paid and secrets vanquished. Can Syaoran and his companions overcome the power of his clone's unfathomable magic in time to save Sakura?

So good, with so many plot twists and such great characters. Still irked about Clow being Sakuras father after time was turned back with no explanation, although I guess it could be the same as the explanation for Watanuki.
I love the depth of everyone's relationships, they feel real and there are just enough hints of a certain couple that make me squee!! *coughkurofaicough*
Get your grubby little paws on this and xxx hOlic as well!

>definitivamente un ffxv, donde se ve genial pero no tiene mucho sentido la historia, y claro que lo importante son los sentimientos de amistad.

//////////////

The series definitely seems to be building towards its climax as we have dueling Sayroan's (shade of Fringe) facing off against each. Actually we may be talking about 3 Sayroans, but who's counting? Also the tale crosses over more with xxxHolic and explain, in a rather oblique way, more about Watunaki.

The volume that explains it all; the relationship between Shaoran, Watanuki, and the whole reason for the series. Unfortunately, it's heavy in paradox that would leave you confused and scratching your head, with the logic behind it very fast and loose.

I'm still scratching my head.

Nice. We're now into the big finale. Exit the fake Syaoran with poignant memory of fake Sakura (and also with an awesome ploy against the villain). A satisfying death for a character who was important for basically the entire series, whether readers knew it or not.

Finally some answers! I was mostly curious about Shaolan's connection to Watanuki and it was finally, finally explained. Hurray. The ending was really sad though.
