I had no idea what this book was all about as I hadn't read any others in the series. Imagine the look of surprise on my face while reading this at my son's bball practice and finding our heroine having rather explicit sex with 2 out of the 3 brothers she lives with.

"Why didn't she bang the 3rd brother as well?" you might be wondering. Because our heroine is pregnant and he was showing great restraint out of concern for the safety of her and the unborn baby. *eye roll*

I'm not a prude and have read my fair share of bodice rippers over the years. This just isn't the one for me.

Also, I need to start reading the description of the Kobo freebies before I download them.

Maya Banks, Colters' Wife (Samhain Publishing, 2010)

I promised myself—actually, I swore to myself—I would not read Colters' Wife, which stands as kind of book 1.5 in the Colters' Legacy series (it's a 40-page short), bridging the gap between Colters' Woman and Colters' Lady, until I'd picked up Colters' Woman and given it a whirl. But I simply couldn't help myself. Maya Banks has done America one of the greatest services any writer possibly could have; she has shown, in graphic, uncompromising, and highly amusing fashion, the illiteracy of any number of people who fancy themselves readers. Why are there seventy-nine one-star reviews for Colters' Wife as I write this> In every case—every single one—it's because the person who unwittingly downloaded and read this “disgusting filth” did so because s/he did not understand the significance of the placement of the apostrophe in the title, which makes the direction of the subject matter extremely clear. Sorry, folks, if you'd paid a smidgen more attention in English class (assuming you actually went to it), your pristine eyes would have never had to behold such debased horror as a woman accepting that more than one man is capable of loving her.

I already hid the plot in that opening paragraph, but a little more explicitly: this short bridge between the first two novels in the series focuses on Holly, the title character, in the final days of her pregnancy (she's carrying Seth who, judging by the excerpt of Book Two found at the end, is the main character of that one). Yes, there are a couple of erotic scenes (and yes, Ms. Banks is quite good at writing those [wipes sweat from brow]), but I was just as enchanted by the scenery, even when it was conspiring to thwart Holly's attempts to get to her favorite sitting rock. (My wife is seven months pregnant. I totally get that bit.)

I'd originally given this three stars, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that as far as the construction of a short story goes, this is actually pretty nicely thought-out, all the more so for taking time out to include the hot, sweaty bits. I certainly won't argue with those reviewers who cautioned me to read the first book first, but it does work well as a stand-alone (Banks mentions a few events from the first book, but gives enough detail in an economical enough space that you can get your head around the emotional quirks that follow from said events), which is pretty amazing these days, when every author just HAS to set up a sequel in the final pages, y'know? So I'm kicking it up half a star, because while it's still fluff, it's impressively-written fluff, and it's renewed my determination to read this series—which I'm sure was the intent of offering the thing for a free download in the first place. Bravo, Ms. Banks, and bravo, Samhain Publishing, you did your job, and you did it very well, as far as I'm concerned. *** ½

Curiosity killed the cat... And I have to stop reading every freebie I find, LOL.

I guess I could have cared about the characters in this short story if I had read the original book, I don't know. As it was, this quickie didn't stand on its own.

Note: This book is on my "ménage" shelf only because the heroine is "married" to the 3 heroes. There are no ménage sex scenes in this story. However, she does have sex with 2 of her "husbands" separately and tries to seduce the 3rd.

Colters’ Wife (Colter's Legacy #1.5) by Maya Banks is a sequel to Maya’s most popular book, Colters’ Woman where three brothers all share the same woman and end up “marrying” her. I haven’t read Colters’ Woman since I’m not a big fan of siblings involved in a polyamorous incestuous relationship regardless if the siblings aren’t sexually attracted to one another. In Colters’ Wife, each Colter brother has one-on-one time with the pregnant heroine, Holly. There’s no threesomes or quartet loving going on here.

Colters’ Wife goes as follows: Pregnant woman has sex with three brothers at different times, falls down a ditch, gives birth, The End. The sex was hot but there really wasn’t much of a plot.

When Holly fell down the ditch, I was expecting some Lassie type dog to run and get help. Unfortunately, no lovable dog appeared, and because of this I had to lower the grade because nothing says happily ever after like a woman married to three brothers and a pet dog they can all love and cherish. But then the dog wouldn't be able to sleep in their bed because there's no room with three brawny men and one small woman sleeping together.

If you're a fan of Maya's Coulter series, you'll enjoy this short. It's both cheesy and equally disturbing having three brothers sharing one woman. Holly must be exhausted from all the Colter loving she gets. But then again Holly doesn't have any complaints because the triple threat Coulter men are too perfect for words and have all the right moves.

Continues books 1, h is pregnant and at end of term. She gets upset because her 3 men are bossy and dominating and she's sick of it. So she decides to seduce them, then puts her baby at risk, by going for a walk. Honestly these men deserve better than her, she's TSTL so of course she falls, gets trapped and her men have to rescue her. The her bossy men have to deliver the baby. I don't think she deserves them - she's selfish and not nice.

Apparently a lot of people didn't read the description of this before reading. It's erotica people! Why would anyone waste their time on reading things they don't look into? It seems a lot of freebies on the Nook are erotica recently, so people should beware. This is a short epilogue to Colters' Woman. It serves its purpose to show the birth of the first Colter baby, which was sweet, but unrealistically portrayed, to say the least. But it really is an epilogue....not a novella. There is no real plot development here, only some resolutions.

Hard to rate this one. Free Kindle ebook and nothing wrong with how well written. One female having relationship with three brothers just not my cuppa. I like hot, steamy and erotica. But couldn't get past the three brothers sharing one woman.

This is sequal to Colters' Woman.

The Colter men are the best at taking care of their woman. They are even more attentive to Holly when she is pregnant. This was a very welcome addition to the Colters' Legacy series. The only danger is in the situation that Holly gets herself into as she starts to go into labor, but doesn't even realize that at first. When Holly is pregnant she becomes more confident in her standing with the men and then uses that new found confidence and trust to her advantage (not that they were complaining). The more I read about this unconventional (yet conventional in their own way) family, the more I can't wait to read more.

This was a fun little quickie to follow up with the first book. Holly is still up to her ditzy ways, but it was fun to see her as the aggressor with the guys.

Free Kindle download. I know now that this is an epilogue, so I assume those who have read the first book would find this one satisfying. This was the first time I've read the author, however, so Colters' Wife wasn't satisfying for me — the characters were not already familiar to me; I wasn't already invested in their story; and the length of the book is just not enough time for me to come to care that much about them. So when I realized that the heroine was wife to all three Colter brothers? Yeah, I raised my eyebrows quite a bit — that first book must have been an interesting lead in to this one, that's for sure. But it made it even that much harder for me for to care for the characters, as I really couldn't relate to them at all.

Not that I don't find ménage-type relationships sexy; it's just that I find them somewhat unrealistic, and too much a source of conflict and jealousies and resentment. It would take a really great story for me to buy into it. Then bring marriage into it, and suddenly it's polygamy, and then I start thinking of Mormon fundamentalists and inbreeding and the fact that it's illegal. On top of that, the siblings-sharing-their-lover factor is just a little bit creepy and slightly incestuous. Just ... ick. I have read and seen multiple-partner stories before that have worked (the movie Threesome, for instance), but for me, this one didn't.

The only way I can see this kind of story is as some deep, dark secret fetish fantasy that a woman has, much like how men fantasize about being with "TWINS!" Which is kind of icky on its own and which makes me NOT take this kind of book seriously, as it's close to impossible for me to suspend my disbelief, fully immerse myself in the story, and enjoy the book — way too many "Oh, come on!" moments where I roll my eyes and mutter, "You wish." At best, it comes off as some Penthouse magazine tell-all fantasy, though atypically written in beautiful, lyrical language.

I can sort of imagine (OK, just barely) that I might have felt differently had I read the first book and seen their journey toward this unrealistic brotherly bliss of sharing their beloved, but I didn't, so there it is. And, for crying out loud, there's a reason why they're called BROTHER-in-law and SISTER-in-law; you get to the point of seeing them as a brother or a sister. The heroine is essentially sleeping with her brothers, and they in turn are sleeping with their sister. Somehow that does not seem right to me. Pick ONE Colter brother, you greedy, selfish, skeevy woman. And leave the other two alone!

I did like the level of writing, though. Perhaps with a different subject and a longer book for more story development, I'd be willing to try the author again, something in one of the more conventional genres.

Well, this is the first book I've ever read from Sweet series. I never read the excerpt nor the synopsis so I kind of blown away by the story. I mean come on? Three brothers and one woman? I was like, darn! She's a very lucky bitch! Ahahaha. But still, the idea of brothers share a same woman is over the top for me. Don't you think it's.. I don't know, forbidden? Well, it's a one fun to read, still. I enjoyed every page. The way Adam, Ryan and Ethan treats Holly is just wow. Kind of ridiculous but it's worth your time. :)

When I downloaded this free ebook from the Amazon store, it didn't have a description. About halfway through the first page I was pretty stunned at what it was really about {three brothers in love with the same woman who all live together and...yeah}. Nevertheless, I made my way through it. Definitely not something I'd read again, nor would I want to read the first book or the rest of the series.

My recommendation here? Don't bother.

I read Colters' Woman some time ago, and while I wasn't a fan, I didn't completely hate it, either. This epilogue is a complete waste of time. The writing was unimpressive and really, nothing much happens.

Holly is pregnant and about to drop, so don't let my 'erotic romance' shelf fool you - nothing much of that happens, either.

I'm getting the feeling that the Kindle freebies are free for a reason - I sure wouldn't have paid for this one.

3stars -- Nice but not necessary to know Colter’s Update

This Colter’s stay on our mind with this short bridging books 1 & 2. This entry is definitely for completists as it gives you no more information than you will have at the beginning of book two. I wouldn’t classify as a must read but ok as a freebie.

This was a sweet epilogue to Colters' Woman because it showed how well the polyamorous marriage worked for Holly and the Colter brothers. We got to see the next generation of brothers along with the birth of what was probably the first Colter daughter in recent memory. I think her book is probably well worth reading.

As I read this book I found myself hoping that this woman was married to one man with multiple personalities. Unfortunately this was not the case. She is actually married to three brothers who don't mind sharing her. It would have been better for me if she was married to the scizophrenic!! Don't read this series unless you're ready for a very unconventional arrangement.

I had not read Maya Banks before this e-book (B&N free). I thought the story was well written and tastefully done. I was not offended by the story premise and will now read the other books in this series. It was a short story that I wish was longer.

Short and sweet. We get to see them all a few months later when Holly is ready to have their baby. And because the men think she is to fragile to make love to until after the baby is born, she has to try to seduce them.
