Iggy is different from the rest of his tribe, the Urks. He isn't interested in the usual things such as flint tools, hunting or boulder-rolling. He's always daubing on the walls of his cave or coming up with infuriating new ideas. According to his 'We don't need new ideas - we have plenty of old ones.'
Iggy's latest invention is a primitive scootalong or Stone Age skateboard. His parents don't want him playing outside in case the neighbours complain. Besides, they have more important things to talk tomorrow is the Sons of Urk ceremony, when boys who come of age are accepted into the tribe as hunters. Iggy is eager to take part, but he'll have to pass the ritual initiation test, which means facing the one thing he dreads more than snakes!
Imagine if David Walliams wrote How to Train Your Dragon, but instead of a dragon it’s a mammoth-of-Troy. This is a great book for boys aged between 7 and 11. We listened to the audiobook on a family road trip, and we all enjoyed Clive Mantle’s hilarious performance.
Chose this as my son is studying the Stoneage at school. It didn't really tell us much about the Stoneage! But it was an amusing read. Did not get boring, fairly quick read and so satisfying. I would read more in the series except there are so many other books I would like to read!
Oh, this is really good fun! Excellent narration on the audiobook, too, there are Pratchett-like asides and quips that the reader handles beautifully and it'll get readers thinking about language, too. Would be a fantastic read-aloud for Y2-3.
