This was a solid introduction to Ancient India for a child with no prior knowledge of Indian culture. I especially liked the way the chapters were divided according to the various social classes of the caste system, as it made it very easy for my first grader to understand how the castes were organized. The book also simplified Hinduism and Buddhism in such a way that she was able to grasp their key tenets and explain how the two faiths differed. We will be using others from this series over the next few months now that we know how engaging they are!

pg 59 I believe "those who were too extravagant or spend beyond their income" should be " spent"
I love reading these books because they're extremely digestible. it's not too long or too short. It gives a concise overview while including interesting tidbits and photos/art. I especially liked the overview before the chapters began became it game me a brief frame of reference.

An interesting and light book about Indian culture through their myths and tales. There is a little introduction about the country, that for me, was as much interesting as the myths themselves :)

And although it is listed as a book for children, it is perfectly suitable for adults who doesn't know much about India and its religion.

Greatest thing: The images of paintings and sculptures are just beautiful!
