Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

It takes some doing to pull off a good bait-and-switch.

You can't just have the story go down one road and then suddenly pull the rug and take it entirely elsewhere: the audience will be left baffled and disappointed. You'll have to sneakily foreshadow and set up that other path as well, so that, when one gives it some more thought, the whole thing all of a sudden feels entirely natural - like how it was supposed to go in the first place. One Piece pulls it off here: you've got all this talk about the Fishman Island, about the coating, about needing to survive for three days to make it there... all the while also foreshadowing the execution of Ace and the whole war that's coming, the storm a-brewin'. Now all you need is for the Marines to respond in force at the big stunt Luffy pulled off at the end of the last volume, and the biggest mess up until this point in the story is all set up and is not out of place at all.

Plus a lot of big revelations in between; insight and enlightenment that prompt us to question the very premise of the story and everything that got it started; a few answers, but in their place all the more baffling questions, intrigue, and fantasy of the great myth arc - some of which have not paid off even now as I write this, more than a decade after the fact!

I also enjoyed Luffy's chemistry with a couple fellow Supernovas of his: great things set up on this front as well, for the future. Oda's getting so much out of a bunch of weirdos he just came up with only recently.

Good volume! We pick up with the crew meeting the ship repairer and turns out its Rayleigh, the vice cap of Pirate King's crew and he tells them of his last moments and words and how the pirate age began and it was inspiring, and even hinted at the void century and one piece but Luffy tells him no as he wants to continue that adventure and it was fun! I loved how we get teases but then they are attacked by kuma and Admiral Kizaru and its fun! The big battle starts! Fun volume and amazing world building and payoffs!

Probably one of the most intense volumes of One Piece so far! The Straw Hats are being hunted relentlessly by top
Tier Marines and it’s honestly terrifying.

One Piece, Vol. 52 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (503–512) of the on-going manga series.

This tankōbon continues the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. Having assaulted a Celestial Dragon, the Straw Hats have effectively declared war against the World Government. In doing so Silvers Rayleigh, the man they have searched for, decides to reveal himself to the Straw Hats.

He frees Camie, attends to Hatchan, and leaves the others to deal with the approaching navy. With the help of some fellow pirate crews the Straw Hats are able to rendezvous with Rayleigh, the former first mate of the pirate king. Optimistic that the Straw Hats will be able to emulate the pirate king's successes, he agrees to outfit their ship.

While waiting for him to finish the job, the Straw Hats must elude the navy that has been sent after them, something that proves difficult to do when they keep running into copies of Bartholomew Kuma. To complicate matters, they are found by Kizaru, a navy admiral who has effortlessly dealt with all the pirates who helped the Straw Hats earlier. Just as they are about to be defeated by the combined forces, Rayleigh and the real Kuma arrive to intervene.

This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. After inadvertently declaring war on the World Government – again, the Straw Hat Pirates have to avoid the approaching navy, while their ship is getting refitted to sail underwater. It all comes to a head when the Straw Hat Pirates is faced with Admiral Kizaru – an admiral that effortlessly dealt with many pirates – including allies of the Straw Hat Pirates.

All in all, One Piece, Vol. 52 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.

SABAODY ARCHIPELAGO ARC - FINAL PART
1. i am dead. wherever luffy goes, sengoku gets a thousand aneurysms because somehow luffy always ends up destroying something in their hierachy

2. the whitebeard pirates vs the seven warlords of the sea. i just got chills

3. captain kid has the power to repel (and to attract?), trafalgar has......some shambles power (within a certain radius, he can cut off things at will?), and luffy!

4. why does rayleigh look like shanks' dad?

5. i'm so tense. these enemies seem so unbeatable. this must be so insanely horrible for luffy, to see his teammates all get yeeted to god knows where (i refuse to believe that they were eradicated...i mean....obviously...)

Brilliant stuff, as usual; HOWEVER, I cannot fail to point out how Rayleigh's existence in this series annoys me a little bit. He knows where the goddamn One Piece is. Why is nobody asking the son of a bitch? Not only does he know where it is, he knows WHAT it is!!!!!! It pisses me off that every single character isn't lining up to ask him about it. Why are other pirates not attempting to capture and torture him or something? Luffy even said that he doesn't want to be told, because that ruins the adventure. I'm sorry, but that's dumb. It's just kinda silly writing. Rayleigh knows all the secrets but let's not make his knowledge an important part of the plot because friendship and adventure. Stop. Somebody ask this man what the hell the One Piece is right now. Why is the World Government not after him if he has that information? Shouldn't he be target number one?

Okay, I'll stop ranting about Rayleigh, but I can go for days. This was a great volume with a lot of important content, I just wish Oda would flesh out Rayleigh's hidden knowledge a little bit more, and how that knowledge affects the world-building.

For me, One Piece is best Manga ever written. The story always touch my heart, it is a combination of faithful friendship, laughter, loyalty and action.
Some people might find this manga as silly and pointless (I’ve heard this before) but they never truly read the Manga and therefore judging it simply from the cover. I’ve been in that position too…and thank God I finally looked beyond the cover and found the greatest adventure any Mangaka ever written.

Re-reading One Piece has been such a blast. Beyond manga/anime, One Piece is purely just a brilliant work of fiction. I have yet to find another work that fully encapsulates the definition of romance as this series does: a quality or feeling of mystery, excitement, and remoteness from everyday life; a prose narrative treating imaginary characters involved in events remote in time or place which is usually heroic, adventurous, or mysterious.

This one pulled at the heartstrings, definitely made it a slower read for me. I can't stand seeing Luffy cry. If it were up to me, I'd refuse to see such a pure being shed tears, but Oda be like that. >__>

Wohh what an action packed and stressful volume😥😥. In this volume also we are continuing the Sabaody Archipelago arc🥰🥰.

After Luffy punches the celestial dragon there is a huge commotion and everyone is running away as they know the Navy admiral will come now😥😥. We see Rayleigh who was a slave to pay off his debts 😂😂. He helps camie out of the collar and tells Luffy he was waiting to meet him. We then see Law, Kid and Luffy fighting the marines and it was hilarious as they were all trying to one up each other😅😅. Our crew, Rayleigh, camie and hachi manage to come back to the bar of shakky with the help of the rosy life riders 🐟🐟.

Then we get the revelation that Rayleigh was a part of Roger's crew and how they all learned about the entire history of the world🗺️🌏. He also reveals that roger got sick 😷 after becoming the pirate king 👑 👑 and then decided to turn himself in to the Navy. So basically the Navy lied about capturing the pirate king🙀🙀. When usopp tries to ask Rayleigh if the One Piece is on Raftel then Luffy yells I don't want to know. I will stop being a pirate lollll😂😂. I love how he doesn't want to get the info and go on the adventure on his own☺️☺️.

We then see Sengoku getting the information that Luffy hit the celestial dragon and we see Admiral Kizaru coming to deal with this mess😅😅. We also see Kuma who is fighting the Kid pirates. Kizaru also starts fighting the supernovas and we see how nobody can fight him as he has an amazing devil fruit power where he can use light. He defeats all the supernovas who he comes across. We also see the Pacifista PX4 fighting strawhats, after working together they manage to defeat him.

We then see sentomaru with another Pacifista PX1 and Kizaru. This fight is very one sided and Rayleigh has to step in to protect the strawhats😭😭. Kuma also joins and uses his teleportation powers on Zoro and he disappears😭😭.

The volume ends with the crew confused as to what happened to Zoro😅. What will happen next? Is Zoro okay? Will kizaru be able to capture the strawhats or can they run away? To find out let's keep reading 😭😭.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Gran tomo.

To me, this is one of the first box climaxes where things are starting to come together. It really doesn't feel like it's just about the straw hats anymore, the world is now so much bigger than that. Because I watched the anime I know what's coming, but I'm still on the edge of my seat with each line I read. Already shed a few years at the end because I know what's coming though 🫡

Everything went downhill!
Sabaody Archipelago became an all-out war zone. Straw Hats are going against more than one version of Kuma and a navy admiral called Kizaru: who has a freaking light-based Devil fruit!
Even though Silvers Rayleigh IS trying to help I don't know how they will survive for 3 more days.
Overall: an exciting Volume and I enjoyed it.
