Book two in the Bodyguards in Love Series After a lifetime of abuse, Jared Grant was rescued by Brier Blackstone and taken to one of the safest places he knew, the bodyguard dormitory of the Three Partners Protection Agency. For the first time, Jared is surrounded by men whose job it is to protect, not hurt him. One of his protectors, Sebastian James, knows a little something about abuse. Once a victim of abuse before he and his brother were taken from an abusive household and put into separate foster homes, Seb learned to harden his heart as a way of survival. Now, the soft spoken and scared Jared threatens the shell Seb spent years fortifying. When Jared's tormentor threatens him from jail, it's up to Seb and the rest of the bodyguards to keep Jared safe until he can testify at his abuser's trial. However, the close contact might be more than Seb's hard shell can withstand.
This story is short so it's hard to give a review without saying everything that happened. One thing bears mentioning though and that is the fact that this is really not an erotic-romance like most of Lynne's books.
Due to the main characters past the romance between the two develops slowly. Even when they are both clearly attracted to each other, they are cautious because of the hurt they have experienced.
Jared is such a sad character that at times i almost wanted to cry from the things we were told happened to him. I felt pity for how he reacted when someone inadvertently brought a flashback from his abused past. Yet i was glad to see Lynne show how resilient a person can be.
Overall i was satisfied because Ms. Lynne gave us a realistic setting with a good dose of fiction to tie it all together in the end.
I got so interested in Jared's story at the end of Brier's Bargain that I just needed to continue with this book 2 of Bodyguards in Love :)
Again it was nothing very ambitious, overly developed or with a great depth. The twist was also predictable. Anyway, I liked it a lot. It was sexy and I'm a sucker for abused MCs so...
I read Brier's story last year and I thought it was good. Not great, but good but I got it for $.99. So, I put off buying Seb's story, even though I wanted to know more about Jared. I could NOT get over the price tag though, so I asked a friend if it was worth it. He loaned it to me ;) I mean, $5 for a 89 page novella? No thanks. Sorry, but I can't pull the trigger on that. With that said, I am glad I didn't pay the $5 for this story.
Wait, hear me out. Yes, it was good. That's it though. Good. Not great. I wanted more. I wanted to know more about Jared.
Then there's Seb who kept his cards close while Jared was baring his soul. But, I didn't find a problem with Seb at all. Until...
Overall, I liked this one more than Brier's story, but I think that's because I liked both MC's rather than just Brier. Also, did Mac have a trio in Brier's story? I don't remember that.
Not sure if I am going to be moving on with this series.
This was a sweet read that quickly sucked me in. Jared has his life somewhat back on track after Brier frees him from Rick. He's working at a little gas station, he has his own room in the security dorms and he has his friend, Brier. He also has Seb, who can't really seem to explain to himself why he wants Jared or even admit how much he feels for him, but it's there and those feeling aren't going anywhere. Still, Jared is plagued by the demons of his past and when one of those demons returns to his new life, he finds that what he has now, who he is, and the possibilities of his future are worth fighting for.
This was a very enjoyable read and a wonderful addition to Carol's Bodyguards in Love series.
Another sweet story. This series is on a roll. Poor Jared has been through so much in his life, from his abusive childhood, to his abuse during his time at the institution, to his kidnapping and abuse from Rick and his brother. Sexy, mysterious Seb takes Jared under his wing, and they fall for each other.
These stories aren't very long, but they contain just enough to make them quite enjoyable. Looking forward to the next one.
This is a wonderful story about two wounded men who learn how to give and take in a relationship.
Seb is wounded emotionally and laden with guilt. Jared has been abused in the most horrific way, both physically and emotionally, during his entire life. The description of how these two come together and the emotions between them was wonderful and I really enjoyed reading this story.
Great continuation to the series! Seb's strong and protective and Jared's really brave on his own. I really loved how well they fit together, despite (and maybe thanks to) their differences :) Very touching story.
I liked this one, I especially liked that even though Jared was the "wounded and hurt" one, they actually both were and Seb needed Jared just as much .
Another heart melter! Their relationship didn’t live up to Brier and Jackie’s, but nonetheless I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing I might have a problem with is that the way Seb and Jared’s relationship started was a too sudden of a transition to Jared fearing him to all of a sudden infatuated. Trope was typical but the way Carol Lynne has written it kept me on my toes. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series
3 1/2 stars Jared just melted my heart, so broken and fearful and with good reason. Seb's first appearance was so gruff and callous that I wasn't sure I'd even like the pairing, but once Jared stared melting Seb into his own little pile of goo, I knew it was right. Carol writes damaged and broken so well, and since hurt/comfort is one of my fave themes, I just can't get enough of her books. I loved Brier's story so much that I had doubts that I would like the series after reading such a great start and character, but this book proved me wrong. Fantastic.
In Brier's bargain, Brier rescues Jarred from Rick's house where Jarred is being abused and threatened. Now that Jarred is safely ensconced in the security dorms, Seb has become his self-appointed guardian. This was a cute story with a little bit of external conflict that the bodyguards need to work through. A nice quick read in the series.
Fairly typical for Carol Lynne...saccharine, insta-love, traumatised character who is able to over-come a past full of sexual abuse due to the magic of love...massive plot holes...as I said, typical, formulaic book for this author
This book was just as the first of Bodyguards in love a voilent but sweet story. Seb wants to take care of Jared and Jared thinks that maybe he doesn't want to die any more.
For these guys to be bodguards I'm surprised there was no mention of Jared seeing a therapist about his abuse after being released from a where he was abused also. Help to get aide from the state? Just here's a place to stay, your fine! What about the other victim Peter? How is he really?
