God Is All the Colors!

The moment I saw the title and cover of What Color is God’s Love? I knew I wanted to be a part of the tour. It gently points to the fact that God did not create colorism because He is all the colors. After all, we are all made in His image and likeness and He loves us all.

I have so many wonderful thoughts about this book and I have been trying for weeks to encapsulate them into cohesive paragraphs.

What I Liked

- Beautiful, huggable, heartwarming illustrations
- Rhyming that is not cliche, just to rhyme
- The apparent thought, prayer, and love that emanates from each page as the author describes emotions and parts of our world that correspond with the different colors
- The message that colorism divides when God created us to thrive–together
- The suggested activity at the end of the book for parents and children

What Gave Me Pause

Not a thing!

Key Takeway

My key takeaway was found in the book description:

"God created all the colors in the world, and in each one, we can discover how great His love is for us and how we can let that love shine to others! "

I’m still not satisfied that I captured all the lovely nuances of the book, but maybe that’s because you should grab a copy of it and see for yourself.

What Color is God's Love? celebrates and affirms the diverse world God has made. Author Xochitl Dixon's beautiful rhythmic poetry weaves faith, feelings, and colors in a meaningful way that young readers will learn to appreciate their own cultural heritage and the unique identity that God lovingly made them to be. The verses flow smoothly with vivid sensory descriptions about nature that connect colors and emotions, making this a lovely book to read aloud again and again.

The vibrant illustrations complement the text beautifully and I especially like how the book sheds positive light and perspectives on the colors black and gray in a way that expands our view of the wonderful world God created. The book encourages unity and loving others, and includes characters with disabilities, both visible and invisible (as depicted with the girl that has a service dog) working together with others in community.

What Color is God's Love? can lead to deeper discussions about diversity, God's character, feelings, and using our unique gifts to love others. I highly recommend this book to use for social emotional learning and conversations about God's love for all people.

Explore the wide scope of God’s unconditional love through the various colors He has created. The author uses each color to relate to scenes from life. As she says, “Every color declares God’s love for you.” Throughout this imaginative concept book, she asks questions about love and makes positive statements, connecting each to a different color. The accompanying illustrations showing children engaged in a multitude of activities emphasize the color of focus for that spread. Even gray gets a positive spin. And you can find her cute service dog active in the pictures. The rhythm of the text could flow more smoothly, but the message is fantastic—for children and adults. This picture book would make a great read-aloud and a wonderful bedtime story. I think it would be a great jump-off for children to draw their own pictures or continue with questions asking how God’s love is like each color. Don’t miss this encouraging “rainbow” in a story book. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.

Xochitl Dixon is out with a new picture book. What Color is God’s Love? takes a look at an interesting question but a question that will spark creativity in preschoolers. Dixon takes readers on a path through the colors to see how that color might reflect God’s love. Children could be encouraged to expand on the things Dixon includes in the text of this color book. She also includes some fun activities for kids at the close of the story.
I loved Darishika Varma’s illustrations. She used bright, bold colors which will appeal to this age group. She included a diverse cast of characters - from babies and young children, to parents and grandparents. She also included characters of a variety abilities - including those with prosthesis and those in a wheelchair. Ethnic diversity is also a part of the illustrations.
What Color is God’s Love? would be a great addition to the picture book section of a K-12 Christian school library. Preschool and kindergarten teachers could use it to help teach colors.
I received a complimentary copy of What Color is God’s Love? This is my honest review.

With playful questions and fun rhymes, this picture book encourages kids to find reminders of God’s love in each beautiful color. It even includes gray, brown, black, and white--not super common in kids' books, and those are some of my favorite pages.

I love that each page is saturated in the color it highlights with lots of things for kids to find in that color. For example, the blue page has the blueberries, sky, and ocean mentioned in the text along with lots of other things that are blue: flowers, mushrooms, birds, fish, a watering can, a fountain, a ladder, and more. (As a kid, I loved color books like that with lots to discover!)

Most importantly, kids will receive positive messages of God’s love and care and learn some of the ways God communicates His love in the daily moments. They’ll also see examples of how to enjoy and care for people and our world. There’s an activity idea and discussion questions at the back too!

I really enjoy reading Children's books and usually share them with the kids at Sunday School. What Color is God's Love by Xochitl Dixon is the latest that I have shared with the Little ones at Church.

WOW, this book really made me stop and think and truly ingest the message in this Picture Book. The author sets out to teach God's Love through the Colors and that the world is filled with Diversity. I really LOVE how the author uses Colors and describes how each color is part of God's LOVE he is showing us. The Rhyming in the book really makes the book fun and captures the readers attention. I think my favorite part of this book is that the author uses Different Ability girl and her service dog. I truly have a heart of Different Ability Children and Adults. The Illustrator, Darshika Varma, has done an AMAZING job and the colors throughout the book are very vivid and flow with the story. I HIGHLY recommend this book to Kids of all ages. FANTASTIC BOOK!

What color is God‘sLove by Xochitl Dixonis a really cute picture storybook for kids. It describes different colors and how it relates to what God has made and what God does for us. I really think this book should be in every home and church library. Here is a new thought, it talks about the color Black as making you courageous. I am going to just share the whole 4 sentences that pertains to the color black.
“ Is love like the night sky, where God hung the moon, or like shiny -winged blackbirds that sing a sweet tune? BLACk makes me courageous, so I stand up to fear. I’m brave. I don’t quit because God‘s always near.”

As you can see the words are simple and the pictures are so colorful. At the at the end of the book, there is an activities that you can do with your child and has questions that you can ask them about the different colors.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate lit, and these opinions are my own.

What Color is God's Love? is another fabulous children's book by Xochitl Dixon. I love the use of the different colors of the rainbow on each page that express God's love. The text is in rhyming form that I found to be catchy and fun. Overall, a beautiful book to read for all ages.

What Color is God's Love? is gorgeously illustrated by the talented artist, Darshika Varma. Their pictures are vividly colorful and eye catching for the smallest of readers. I thought they were a perfect addition to the book.

I am giving What Color is God's Love? five stars. I recommend it for readers who are between the ages of three and eight years. Xochitl Dixon

When I received this book in the mail, I devoured it. But as with many children's books, it wasn't until I went back through it all over again, pondering every word, examining every nuance of every picture, that the true beauty of the story emerged.
A celebration of the Lord, of His creation, and especially of His children, What Color Is God's Love? opens our eyes to see color through enriching and empowering new lenses. Black becomes bold and strengthening. Purple, green, white, brown... but oh, gray. Who knew gray was such an encouraging color? It can be when seen through the lens of God's love!
Yes, this book was written for children, but I'd say every adult needs half an hour to really examine it and pray along as they do.

I can’t wait to share this beautifully illustrated book with my grandchildren. I love how the author uses different colors to show the beauty that God has created like butterflies that grace us with vivid colors. The color red reminds us that we are forgiven. I loved looking at the pictures and feeling peace wash over me.

The author does a great job of capturing children’s attention as well as adults with how much we are loved and the compassion and grace He shows us. This would be a great book to have in Children’s church. What a great lesson this book could be as children are taught about God. This would also be a great baby shower present as well as a present for a child.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

This book was so cute! The illustrations were beautiful and vibrant. The author’s writing fit so well with the pictures. I think children would love the pictures and how the author connects them with everyday items they would probably recognize. This little book would be a beautiful read for any child. The writing is simple and easy to understand so kids would have issues reading it on their own, depending on their age. The author also includes how each color makes her feel. She even includes colors some people might think dull but they are a wonderful addition to the book. I loved this little book and think many kids would greatly enjoy it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

In What Color Is God’s Love?, author Xochitl Dixon’s playful rhyming verses dive into deep truths about all the many ways God expresses His love for us—from “orange like a pumpkin God grows from a seed” to “pink like flamingos or a puppy’s wet tongue,” and even gray that “makes me feel hopeful because God controls when lightning bolts strike and when loud thunder rolls.

Vivid illustrations are packed with wonders for children to discover, making What Color Is God’s Love? the perfect way for little (and not-so-little) ones to learn about the love of God.

Dixon’s rhyming text about the colors of God’s love is perfect for young kids as they explore their day looking for ways God shows His love. Each spread asks the child a question about the color of God’s love and then a feeling is associated with each color that points the child to truths about God. Varma’s charming illustrations will captivate young readers. Back matter has acitivity suggestions and questions to discuss with your child. A beautiful resource to show kids all the ways God loves them!

This is a beautiful book! I love all the colors and the bright, cheerful, active children. I read this book to my four-year-old, and she liked it. This is a great book to read to children at bedtime, to remind them of God’s presence and love at all times. I also like that there is a dog in every picture. My little girl is an animal-lover, so this is the kind of pictures she loves to look at.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

I absolutely loved this book! The way Xochitl connected everything to the colors in the world around us is so clever, and I think kids will both enjoy it and learn so much from it. It's a great way to teach kids how to identify colors as well! Including the activity at the end also helps turn this into a practical lesson that is fun for kids as well!

I’m especially drawn to colorful art and illustrations so it’s no wonder that this beautiful cover called out to me. The color continues inside on every gorgeous page that’s filled with rhymes highlighting nature, social emotional connections to color, and reminders of God's presence and power. Each spread features a multicultural cast of characters, including a representation of author Xochitl Dixon's service dog, Callie. Every page is a story within a story. Readers will linger over the rich descriptions buoyed by real and imagined scenes and illustrator Darshika Varma's flowers that flow throughout the book. Many will also appreciate the special inspirational references tucked into the book—ripe for great conversations. Adults will enjoy repeated readings of this book as much as their little ones!
