Neighborhood Watch: After the EMP #5

Neighborhood Watch 5: After the EMP

Rate this book
The storm is over.
But what is left of the neighborhood?
Frank's problems grow exponentially with each sunrise. After the storm passes and the water recedes, every flooded house must be re-occupied by its owners, leaving endless opportunities for criminals to sneak in. Squatters appear everywhere. Chaos builds upon chaos. And, guess what? There are no police cars, fire trucks, or FEMA trailers coming to the rescue...

The prize called survival will go to whatever subdivision can pull itself together first.

It won't be easy. Borders between groups of residents are forming. To the south, where most of the people live, gun battles echo on the wind, and roadblocks are already going up to keep them away. To the north, the shady town of North Pointe has been making new friends in the adjacent subdivisions. And to the west, on the coast, the storm has brought in a new and unpredictable neighbor. A beached container ship with a mysterious cargo...

To the east, however, there might be hope. A crashed plane in the forest deposits a resource that might help get the lights back on for Clownfish Cove.

All Frank has to do is gather his people, drive into the unmapped forest, deal with armed strangers and criminal teenagers, and then get the resource back home to Clownfish Cove...

He's living the retirement dream.

The day-by-day saga continues on day 6 after the EMP.

This book has one incident involving suicide, and discussions of such. It happens in the last lines of chapter 10, and is discussed for a bit of chapter 11. For personal reasons, I take this subject very seriously.

E.E. Isherwood has been a storyteller for over 30 years. Initially the muse took the form of childish comic strips. As a teen it manifested itself under the guise of Dungeons and Dragons adventures. In college it culminated with a Master's thesis on Missouri geography—an extremely boring kind of story. Three decades and several careers later he realized that siren song never stopped, so he began to author books. A life-long enthusiast of apocalyptic fiction, writing about zombies was his passion. Future titles in science fiction and fantasy are in the hopper. He lives in the St. Louis, Missouri area, where his series of zombie books takes place.

Neighborhood Watch 5 - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Leader of the eponymous Watch, former truck driver Frank Douglas, his Cuban girlfriend Carmen, and other united survivors in Clownfish Cove and beyond, come up against a number of dangerous and tragic scenarios, in Neighborhood Watch, Book 5.
Two new 'arrivals' - a beached warship swept in on a hurricane and, in nearby woodlands, a crashed plane - may provide life-giving resources, in a dystopian world where it's all about survival for the wider neighborhood.
Why are Frank and his friends in danger as they return home from the plane's crash site?
What occurs as crates are unloaded from the shipwreck by hostile strangers?

The adventure ramps up exponentially, as enemies and new allies collide or collude.

EE Isherwood gets you totally into what is going on in the story.

This author is a storyteller. This is book 5 in this series and I hope it goes to book 20. Frank and Carmen along with all the rest have amazing and dangerous things happening as they try to protect the neighborhood around them from evil. What and why is there a huge ship with containers doing washed up from the hurricane? Who is in charge and did they somehow set the EMP off? Book 6 may have the answers but will it help Frank and his neighborhood? As well as others who are just trying to survive we shall see!

This continues a very good series. The fact that Frank is often juggling many competing demands for his attention rings true. Often books are a bit monolithic when dealing with these issues but here, he and his leadership group have to prioritize and run from fire to fire (sometimes literally). The concern for the black shirts and their origins and intent grows as does the open threat of the North Pointe group. I look forward to the next book to see how this all concludes.

This series is always exciting always informative. A great cast of characters and the story line is great. It’s a fun series and serious at the same time. Most of these booked have ex military guys or super prepares but this is more regular people doing extraordinary things

This Series Just Gets Better and Better

I am so hooked on this series. I definitely want to be in Frank's neighborhood if things go off the rails. I see myself in so many of the characters. Both brave at times and scared to death at the same time. This is a series I have added to my "to be read every year" list.

Book 5

Hmmm. It's like the end of Harry Potter or any other story that has a two part ending. Will Frank survive the next crisis? Will Frank and Carmen finally get their second 30 minute break? Stay tuned folks book 6 will explain it all (or will it?).
Good story, found my first editorial mistake, but didn't distract from the story.
Now I gotta wait for book 6.

Good series

This author continues to produce interesting books that grip you from the start. I would recommend you read the series in order but know it will be well worth your time. The excitement never stops and the characters are well developed and you find yourself I vested in their welfare.

This is One of the Best TEOTWAWKI Tales.

This author writes an engrossing yarn. He reminds me of Heinlein. And, like the Master, his facts and suppositions add up.
And his nom de plume came right out of the pages of my first TEOTWAWKI novel, Earth Abides", which I read, hidden in my notebook during Latin class at Roswell Kent Junior High, in about in about 1957.

Unbelievably delightful, action packed and worth every second!

A great post apocalyptic series centered around normal folks doing amazing things to eke out one more day of survival after another!
The series has a great set of relatable heroes and villains and moves at a perfect pace.
Enjoy!!

No uncle frank early handle stuff really easily he just seems to know what to happen when to happen

Uncle frank seems to have 1⁄6 sense about what's gonna happen or what to do next he is an awesome person at reading people and situations I hope that something ever happened like this in real life that I have the neck to know what to do next

Neighborhood5

Continued story of a different type than the many others I have seen with the initial survival being the main line of the tale. The hero isn't really a hero and his followers don't follow too well but it has a feeling of being real should this be the event that happens.

Good

I really like this series. This book was pretty good, but it kind of dragged a little bit. The ending kind of made up for that although it left on a cliffhanger. I do hope that we get a little forward momentum in the next couple books.. I would also like a little more character growth for characters other than Frank and Carmen.

Wow. Just wow.

Started out at a steady, comfortable pace, then took off like a rocket before setting me down abruptly. As I picked out leaves, sticks and grass from my hair, all I could say is wow.

Same events over and over. The cargo ship "mystery" is bizarre. So much to work with, and the author's first few of the series were so good, but with this one, I am out. I will miss Mister Puppers, though :)

Great addition to the series!

I don’t know how he does it but EE keeps me spellbound. The only problem is I keep running out of story to read. Great characters and fascinating story line. I am totally hooked!

Good book..it's always something..how quickly everything turns sour at the most inopportune time...Frank is a good leader...albeit he encounters some interesting things in the apocalypse.

Another good one

I'm hinge-reading these, one after another, and still enjoying the series. They're doing a few things I wouldn't want to do, but it adds to the excitement.
Not sure what's going to happen next, but I'm starting book 6 asap.

This series is getting better as it goes. The author takes a really hard look at what people will do to each other when the social norms are gone.

Amazing storyline and terrifying events blended with realistic characters come together to create this fantastic apocalyptic thriller! EE Isherwood is a master wordsmith with an extraordinary imagination and this series, Neighborhood Watch, is high drama. I love it and am very anxious to read book 6. I highly recommend all of Isherwood’s works and especially this exciting series.
