Sometimes love hits you when you least expect it. When nineteen year old, Rick Steele was back home for summer break in Dayton after living at the dorms at Ohio State University in Columbus, he expected three months off to relax and do nothing. His single-working mother, Jenny, had other plans. She and Rick's sisters, Connie and Rhonda thought having an exchange student from Italy would be just the ticket to revving up their free time. Elia Gianni was thrilled to take a break from college and spend time in America. No, it wasn't New York, or LA, but still, it was the United States of America. Elia arrived at Dayton airport, ready for the American experience, a chance of a lifetime. The only problem the host Steele family had upon Elia's arrival, was. They expected a woman. When Rick first set eyes on the fantastic Italian stud, he fell head over heels for him. With the family in a tailspin, and Rick still not 'out' to his family, Elia's arrival knocked everyone off their feet, most of all, the big, macho athlete, Rick. Suddenly having to share his bedroom with a gorgeous Italian exchange student, Rick was forced into making too many decisions before he was mentally prepared to do so. And for Elia, meeting blond, blue-eyed Rick Steele, was just what he needed for one heck of an American adventure. I would like to introduce a brand new unpublished author, Michael Zephyr, whose short story, Above and Below the Surface is an added bonus in celebration of my fiftieth published novel. Enjoy.

Not much of a story here, beyond what was in the novella Exchange of Hearts. Rick and Elia fall madly in love and spend most of the time during Elia's exchange having sex. Much of the time Rick acted like a jerk; he was very unkind to his sisters and mother and it made me wonder why Elia was so crazy about him. Elia's English "dialect" was insulting to him as a character and I really wish it hadn't been written that way. I did enjoy Exchange of Hearts (even with the dialect which I didn't like) which is why I read this book but really -- not much plot, not much story, just lots of "How can I live without you?" The ending was very rushed. The epilogue provided the required HEA but I thought it was trite.
Another book by G A Hauser that unfortunately fell short for me. There is basically nothing wrong with the concept but something was lacking.
Basic storyline.. Italian exchange student comes to USA, stays with American family who originally are expecting a girl, son of family is gay falls for the Italian stud who is ( of course ) beautiful and hot, mutual attraction/lust , 4 weeks of passion, a little bit of upset when they part, a visit to Italy, a little bit more upset as they try to work out how to be together because of their nationalities and countries immigration laws...... the end!
Most of the story is made up of the sex between them it happens on the first night he arrives, then more or less every page after. No problem with that, but it becomes repetitive and frankly pretty boring! I love a hot sizzling sex scene as much as most people who read this genre, but I do believe less is more, space out the sex scenes and increase the sexual tension, and it makes for a satisfying, much more sensual read. I do think a lot of authors in romantic fiction and erotica go overboard with wham bam in your face sex and in doing so lose the chemistry between their characters. They also need to base the sex around a decent storyline ......." Would you like some story with your sex, sir"? ...... Might as well just pick up the kama sutra and flick through that if it's just titillation that you want!
Ms Hauser is a prolific writer and has a big fan base, I've read quite a few but up to now I've only really enjoyed 2 or 3 - I loved Born to be Wilde and Boys - the rest have been mediocre, this one included but give it a chance, others have loved it. More 2.5 than 3 but rounded up.
Warning - the story ends at approx 85% on kindle, the rest is a short story, that's not too bad, written by a friend of the author.
I bought this as soon as it came out since I really enjoyed the short story 'Exchange of Hearts'.
The book was sex, sex, and a bit more sex. While I don't mind a pwp, I would of loved to have a bit more plot to go with this one, since I really enjoyed the short story and the story idea to start with. (plus, Rick's behavior and attitude to his family turned me right off)
GA Hauser's books are either a hit or miss with me. Unfortunately, this one was a miss. :(
