Okay so I've decided to give reading Mangas a try and my first pick is Koizora. I've pretty much known about this Manga a long time ago, I've heard of the movie adaptation and series adaptation. And for you who don't know I'm s huge Asian drama lover, and a huge anime lover. I grew up watching animes rather than cartoon, so we all know animes come from Mangas but I've never really read them so there I'm starting to. Finally.
I've read ALL the volumes but I don't wanna mark ALL of them as read. There's just a lot. Overall rating of the ALL the volumes is also 4 stars. So as the first volume, I won't go into detail into independently reviewing each volume. So I'll just do the review for the first volume but I've read them all.
Koizora is my first Manga read and I really liked it. It's a story of Mika, her friend Aya gave her number to Nozuma. One day, a drunk Nozuma called Mika but his friend, Hiro ended up talking to Mika who asked her for her number and they started talking on the phone. Though they haven't met, Mika felt calm and happy whenever they talk. On the first day of the second semester, they finally met. And they eventually fall in love. But Hiro's ex-girlfriend Saki threathens to hurt Mika if she doesn't break up with Hiro. Though Hiro promises to protect. Okay, that's pretty much all I can say without spoiling but there are still a bajillion things that happened after that, might as well check it out to find out.
Concerning the plot guys, it's not very original. It's very typical. But I had no problem with that because I'm pretty much expecting it. Though this is a Manga, it is pretty much similar to conteporary novels so there isn't really anything exciting or wrecking going on. You will pretty much anticipate the next happenings because well, it is JUST obvious what's going to happen next. And the creator of this Manga TRIED to put an edge to the story but I saw it coming and pretty much not surprised anymore. Doesn't that kind of edge/twist happens to many drama? So I don't have a lot to say there. That said, I still liked the it. I mean 4 stars rating right? Means really like it. And it's my first Manga read so I'll be generous. Moreover, I was pretty hooked up with it, it only took me the whole night to finish everything.
Though I did like it, let's just admit that there are lots of flaws to this Manga. I'm not sure if that's pretty common in Manga. And Managas are different from books, so maybe it's just there. I'll know when I read more right? So let's discuss the flaws.
` Predictable plot. I already mentioned this. And it's also pretty common as to other stories I've encountered.
` The romance between Hiro and Mika is a bit off. I mean, it didn't explore HOW they fall in love.
` No emphasis on WHY they fall in love.
` Too many boys getting attracted to Mika when there's other characters to look into.
` Many irrelevant things.
` The ending was okay. But no spark.
` It contains emotions. But no depth. It was described but not emphasized. Too flat.
` Some events that happened seemed forced. Not smooth.
` Ideas and emotions tend to be repetitive.
One last thing, this Manga contains a lot of mature/adult contents. So if you're senstitive I recommend you not to read it. I recommend 14+, because this is not just words you're reading, they're actual pictures/drawings. So I suggest older reader to read them. I, myself was shock to find that but I'm okay with it. I mean I'm old enough anyway. Hehe. ^^
