Elle spent years trying to get over her so-called Prince Charming, and she’s finally getting the hang of it. A Grimm—a guardian angel with unique gifts—she spends her nights trolling for demons and kicking ass, and lately, her days have been spent with her on-and-off-again lover, Ren, a fellow Grimm. But fate has other plans in store for Elle, plans that include Michael, the prince from her youth who broke her heart.
“What do you choose…live for her? Or would you rather die?” That was the choice Michael was given all those years ago. Although he knew she’d never forgive him, when Michael was given the chance to become a Grimm, he took it. Still, he isn’t so sure Elle needs him in her life. With a lover at her side and a mission before her, Elle looks like she’s doing just fine without him.
But the not-so-charming prince isn’t going to back off that easily…not if there’s a chance she might need him again. He’d do anything to save her. Kill for her, live for her, die for her…

Bio...
Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more...ah...serious vampire stories. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest.
No Prince Charming is an erotic paranormal take on Cinderella. The author turned the whole story on its head to fit the Grimm's Circle world of demons and warriors who fight against them. It is heartbreaking and the ending is great because of it. I am not sure why I haven't written anything about it until now, though. I read it years ago. I should have. I do this sometimes; I notice a book I read but haven't written anything about it and just do it. This is my favourite story in this series.
Not The Fairy Tale of Our Youth Over three hundred years ago, a young noble woman named Giselle was swept up in a wild romance with a man she knew only as Michael. She was the daughter of a baron, and unlike the fairy tale, she wasn't abused by her step mother, she wasn't hated by two step sisters - she only had the one, and that one was a friend and a sister to her. Also unlike the fairy tale, there was no happily ever after with Prince Charming for Cinderella. In fact, when she realized her Michael was the Prince Louis Michael III that had been betrothed to her step sister since they were both children, Ella realized the scope of her heartbreak. She'd given herself to a man who claimed to love her, but not enough to buck society and give up a well made match for such naive dreams as love. She ran from Michael and from their love.
And died doing so.
That night she rose again as a Grimm, a guardian angel that was tasked to go out in the world and save humanity from whatever evils threaten it. She never saw Michael again. And Michael never stopped loving her. He gave up his life for her, disappeared from history and from his family, and joined Elle on the side of the Grimm, and though he'd been told that one day he would get a chance to win Elle's forgiveness, and one day he'd be needed to risk his existence to save hers, he hadn't expected the wait to be quite so long.
Over three hundred years have passed. The call has finally come. Elle is on a mission to rid Sandusky, Ohio of a nest of succubi and incubi using a sex club as an all-you-can-eat buffet. She's called in her best friend and occasional lover, Ren, to assist her. She wasn't expecting the powerful Will, her boss and the Grimm's handler, to call an audible at the line of scrimmage...and she definitely wasn't prepared to see Michael for the first time in over three centuries. No Cinderella could prepare to see her Prince Charming after their chance at happily ever after had ended in agony, fear, and death.
I love this series and am so pleased with the originality of the concept behind it. Fairy tales we've loved as children have been brought into the present, their characters brought to life and their lives explained in new and fascinating ways. The Grimm brothers have nothing on Shiloh Walker, that's for sure. This dark, edgy series is ripe with sensuality and the depth of emotion that Walker portrays so well. I love the mythos she's created with her Grimm angels and think the twist on the HEA stories of old are unique and brilliantly imaginative. And Walker writes some smokin' sex scenes, too.
I got quickly hooked on this series when I stumbled across Candy Houses and quickly downloaded No Prince Charming when I finished it. I was blown away by Walker's creativity and couldn't wait to get my hand on more of it. I wish they were longer, though. They're not quite what I would consider full length novels, but they're longer than most novellas, and they are bursting with so much potential that I can only wish they were longer to see more of it realized in each story.
In No Prince Charming, I wish more time had been spent on the development of the plot conflict and explaining more of the world of Grimm's Circle. I felt Candy Houses did that a bit more comprehensively than this one did, but there's still room for more. There was plenty of relationship development between Elle and Michael, along with those glimpses of their past which I enjoyed, but that and the sexual relations overshadowed the issue with the succubi and inccubi and I felt that aspect of the plot lacked a little definition and depth. I wish there'd been more offered to broaden the Grimm mythos, as well.
The complex emotional angst between Michael and Elle and Ren was handled very well, and I couldn't help but feel deeply for Ren with his love of Elle. I wish his character had been fleshed out a little more, but I'm thrilled to know his story is coming up next. I'm still not sure exactly who he is, fairy tale-wise, but we'll see. I wasn't totally sold on the sexual relationship between the three of them at the club. Despite it being set up as necessary to capture the succubus queen's attention, I felt the scene compromised the development of Michael as a character. He'd been vehemently opposed to sharing Elle in any way, shape, or form and it had been well documented that his rage was mindless when Ren touched her before, so his active participation and his permission for Ren and Elle to enjoy each other for the time being seemed really out of character.
There were a couple of other contradictions and plot holes, as well. Elle had indicated her gift as a reflector worked well on demons and humans but not on other Grimm. She could sense their emotion a little, but not reflect it back. Then she did several times with Michael. And Michael's gift of mind control somehow morphed into mental communication back and forth with Elle when needed. I found that a little convenient when he'd claimed he'd never even tried to use the mind control on a fellow Grimm before. There were a few other similar scenes that brushed against my ability to suspend disbelief, as well.
Despite those issues, I think Walker has a gold mine of opportunity with this series. The creativity and originality is unparalleled and I'm thrilled to see where the next road leads. Walker has never disappointed me when it comes to dark, gritty, emotional tales with complex characters and layered motivations, and this series is really showing off how impressive she is as an author both stylistically and creatively. I hope it continues for a good long time.
I would caution sensitive readers that while I don't consider this novella an erotica romance (there's more plot issues and relationship issues than sex), nor a menage a trois story, the sex is graphically described and the novella contains scenes of unconventional sexual acts as well as scenes of multiple partner sex and sexuality.
A supernatural version of the Cinderella story. Elle is not the downtrodden step sister, but a beloved child, whose special talent has to be hidden. And her prince belongs to another.
Centuries later they are both Grimm’s and find each other, but he has to get her to forgive him. Meanwhile he has competition in Ren, who’s been there for her all these years. This is all complicated by their mission to seek out and destroy a demon nest, Will is meddling again.
The fairy storylines are unevenly balanced between Elle and Michael. Elle’s is very detailed and emotional, while Michael’s is very short and meager.
Elle needs to get over herself and treat the guy’s right. I understand that Michael hurt her, but that’s’ no reason for her to hurt him especially by leading Ren on.
I don’t quite understand Ren. His character is all over the place. Sometimes he’s very laid back and ‘I don’t care about anything, then at others he’s very intense and “I gotta have her’. I hope I understand better in his book.
Michael needs to open his eyes and get into the real world. He’s not a prince any longer, and if he lives her so much, how can he be willing to share her even for the job.
I like the two main battles, especially the last where they all get involved. Though I thought the Queen went down a little too easily. Those demons have some big flaws in the hos, though I guess we should be glad for our hero’s sakes.
Even though the others have trouble with Will I like him. He’s art that place that most bosses have where they want to be friends with their coworkers but can’t be too friendly or it’d conflict with the job. He tries to be helpful, but is misunderstood, so he’s lonely. I hope he gets his own HEA.
Quick Thoughts: 1)Ren is way too openly sexual for a ‘guardian angel’. They should have some type of morals.
Fave Scenes: Velvet’s exorcism, Michael’s proposal, Ren’s cats and dogs and Michael and Elle in Will’s cabin.
So if you ever thought that Prince Charming never worked hard enough to get the girl then this is definitely the story for you. Elle (as in Cinderella) shows up in Sandusky, Ohio (home of Cedar Point that has very awesome rollercoasters which I loved in my youth but now I think would make me barf) with her occasional lover Ren to clear out a nest of succubi and incubi that have set-up a nest in a very popular sex club. As Grimms, which are described as “unlikely guardian angels trying to keep the unsuspecting mortals from making bad, bad and worse mistakes”, Elle and Ren need to infiltrate the demon’s nest and take out the king or queen that controls all the lesser succubi and incubi. What Elle doesn’t know is that another Grimm, her Not-so Charming Prince Michael, is also assigned to the case. Michael shows-up while Elle is in costume as “Barbie goes badass” and trying to get in the club with Ren. There are some bad feelings between Michael and Elle which makes it very hard for the two of them to work together again, especially to try and infiltrate a sex club together. Michael and Elle definitely have a complicated history that gets expertly revealed in tantalizing flashbacks as the story goes on. You also learn that Elle and Michael’s real life story is much more tragic than the fictionalized fairy tale.
Michael’s torment at seeing Elle with Ren as well as facing the possibility that he might not end up with Elle in the end was heartbreaking. I won’t give away what happens but it was a great HEA. Though I have to say I loved the “in character” scenes when Elle, Ren, and Michael were infiltrating the sex club to try and save misguided humans from becoming sex slaves. And holy smoking panties the love scenes were hot, the “in character” and more intimate scenes –woozah!
Definitely a 5 out of 5 for me for this book. There was great action – both ass-kicking demon and the other kind, as well as an awesome love story and HEA.
Elle has spent her 300 years as a Grimm trying to forget her Michael, Not-So- Charming Prince from her mortal life, but it looks like her time for avoiding him is done. They have a mission together but the feelings Elle thought she had faded come surging to live as she looks in to Michael's gorgeous green eyes.
I find this book/novella (it was very short) hard to review, as although it was okay it just didn't hit the right spot for me. There was nothing bad about it, the sex was hot and there was a little bit of everything, threesome, anal sex, rough sex, sweet sex...which is alot to pack into a book this size! And because of all the sex breaks the token plot never felt that urgent either.
I just found I didn't really connect to any of the characters and I have a feeling this will fall in a vault in my mind where all the other generic PNR books are currently stored, never to be remembered again. This book just wasn't for me, it was a quick read that was written well, but neither the plot or characters held my attention.
I thought this was a hot little read. I have a bit of a soft spot for Ren so it was hard watching him have to step aside to give Elle her happiness, but at the same time there was something immensely hot about it. Thrown into a job at a sex club overrun by demons, which naturally puts Elle in the middle of her two men, and you can probably see how I found this hot.
I really liked Elle's story. In fact, I like how all the fairy tales I grew up with are twisted just enough that they're new again. Michael isn't the charming prince, he made plenty of mistakes. Elle wasn't the abused stepdaughter forced to work her fingers to the bone, in fact she was fiercely independent and loved. I loved it. I loved how they weren't perfect and they take responsibility for their mistakes.
All in all, a fun, hot series that I've really enjoyed.
Shiloh Walker contributes another fabulous story to the ever growing paranormal romance genre. No Prince Charming not only has great characters that are more realistic than fantasy, but the plot doesn't hold anything back either. From the very first moment that I started it up, I was never let down and I had a hard time putting it down. Whether you like twists on classic fairy tales or you're just looking for a great romance, I would so recommend picking up a copy of No Prince Charming today.
There is only 1 menage scene for those who are hoping for a hot threesome. That being said, the sexual tension in this story is good. This is also quite the angst-y story about lovers. The pain of the past for both Michael and Elle in this was almost too overwhelming. The unrequited love (there are two instances) just about killed me. Elle, you are a self centered cruel bitch. Seriously, it's been over a century. Get over it.
This series is totally my guilty pleasure. I love the storyline and characters, and I espescially love all the awesome erotic scenes. I have to say that this book featured one of the ABSOLUTE HOTTEST threesome scenes that I have ever read. Whew!
