Meredith Worthington has just returned to Angel Falls, Montana, from finishing school back east. She didn’t care for the school, or for the rich life her parents’ lead. She just wants to be a school teacher and live a simple life. Meredith’s father has hired a couple men to help with the horses in their stable. One man is very kind and handsome (Shane Connelly). At first, Meredith and Shane didn’t get on, but as time goes by, they discover they have some things in common. (Shane has also come from a wealthy family and is also yearning for a simpler life, training, and working with horses.) But will Meredith’s family ever approve, thinking Shane is a poor traveling man? And what will happen when Shane’s short-term employment working in their stables is over?

This was a very sweet and heartwarming read. Meredith wanted to be independent, move away, and teach children. She was a good heroine, even though she jumped to the wrong conclusions sometimes about Shane. Shane was a dreamy hero, he was kind and sweet. I liked how he treated Meredith’s younger sister. I enjoyed reading about the other characters in the book, some who also have their own stories in this series (“Buttons & Bobbins”).

Another lovely romance by Jillian Hart.

I did not care for this book, unlike the first in the series, the mother was horrid.

A historical romance set in Montana with Meredith Worthington and Shane Connelly both desiring to leave the high society life their parents are involved or from. Shane Connelly arrived at the Worthington’s ranch to train horses but was intrigued with Meredith spunk and determination when he met her on the way. Will Meredith’s mother interfere with her daughter’s life as she is attracted to Shane who is a working man and not in the same society as she desires for her daughter?

I really liked these characters and want to read more about them, but the book was a bit too starry eyed for me. I had to keep reminding myself that I was reading about high schoolers.

This is the story of Meredith Worthington from Angel Falls, Montana. She has just returned from an East Coast finishing school that her Mother insisted she attend. Meredith does not want to live the kind of life her Mother wants for her or her four sisters. She is about to graduate and plans on taking the teaching test so she can become a teacher, but her Mother is insistent that none of her daughters will work as a commoner, it would embarrass her to have her daughter as an employee and not a wife. Meredith takes the teaching test, passes and is presented with a contract for a teaching job. Now comes the hard part, convincing her Mother that it's the right thing for her to do and she wants to do it with her blessing, she tells her Mother that she is signing the contract with or without her approval.

Meredith is finally allowed to try to drive a wagon but gets stuck when she and Minnie, her youngest sister, are on their way home. Two cowboys come along and offer to help them. She isn't sure whether she should trust them or not, but one seems to be rather nice and she really doesn't have any choice, so with their help she is soon on the road again. The two men travel along beside her since they are going the same direction. She and Shane visit along the way and she's soon impressed and finds herself liking him. When she pulls into their driveway Shane's partner looks at the directions and discovers that they are headed to the same house. Shane and Braden are the new horse trainers and Meredith's Mother doesn't want her to be friendly, after all, he's their hired help. Her opinion will soon change, but by that time Meredith's will also change and she refuses to talk to him, much to her Mother's angst.

Just who is Shane really and does Meredith win her Mother over so she can become a teacher?

I would recommend this book, I enjoyed it as much as I did the first one, which I read some time ago. So, curl up and enjoy.

10/21/2015-
“Overall, it was a cute story and I appreciate that there wasn't a lot of kisses (though there was a lot of noticing). The head jumping (jumping from POV to POV within a chapter with no clear breaks) I wasn't a fan of though and it distracted from the story.”

Main Content-
*Minor cussing (dumb, idiot, and stupid); A bit of sarcasm; Meredith's sister smokes; Mentions of jail; Mentions of tobacco & smoking; Mentions of abused horses (semi-detailed).
*Three hand/finger kisses and a semi-detailed kiss; Remembering finger kisses (barely-above-not-detailed); Lots of Touches & Nearness (semi-detailed); Lots of Blushes; Lots of Noticing (semi-detailed); three 'tramp's; Mentions of kisses & kissing; Mentions of a flirt & crushes; Love, falling in love, & the emotions.

I love this series! Love how she kinda leads you into Finn Mckaslin's story too. These characters are so much fun to follow throughout the series. Meredith is wealthy, but all she wants to do is live a normal life and become a teacher. But, in the process she has to deal with her family's reaction to her independence. When she meets Shane, little does she know that he has a past too, but it doesn't matter. It was almost as if it was love at first site. Until, someone reveals his real identity...Ironic how Meredith thinks her parents are prejudice with those less fortunate than them, but when it came to judging Shane in the end, she did it without thought of who he was to her. She couldn't see passed his past until it was almost too late. The lessons both learn are priceless. I can't wait to see what happens with her next set of characters. And it was great to have Ian and Fiona marry! I love that we still get glimpses of the other characters that we have meet previously.

Patchwork Bride reunites the reader with people from Homespun Bride and High Country Bride.

In Angel Falls, Montana the Worthington Family is run by the strict and rigid rules brought from their life in St. Louis. Mrs Worthington wants her daughters to be lady's and the help is to be looked down upon not mingled with.

Shane Connelly is learning to train horses under Braden. Shane has left the rich life he had in Virginia to live the simple saddle tramp life. They stop to help some young ladies get their carriage unstuck from a mud puddle and he finds the country girl enchanting, until they follow her home and find she is not the country girl he thought but Meridith Worthington. He don't want anything to do with the debutantes he left behind. Meridith don't want the life her mother plans for her.

Great story!

I enjoyed this book even though for me it started out a little slow. I did not read the first book in this series and had no problem keeping up, it can be read as a stand alone. Meredith was my favorite character of the book. She knew what she wanted and did not like that her mom thought they should be better than others. She just wanted to be a normal person. What she did not realized it that the horse trainer that her father hired (Shane) wanted the same thing for his life. Meredith's friends were also nice and I believe that is what the other books are about - so it would be nice to go and find out more about what happens to them. I also really liked Minnie - Meredith's sister. All in all a nice story.

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book!!!! And did I say LOVED this book?! Jillian is the one who introduced me to Historical romances....And this is by far the BEST I have read "YET". By Jillian, or anyone. I fell absolutely in LOVE with Meredith & Shane. Even though her mother was a high society snob in the story, Jillian still found a way to make her still likable. I found myself awwing in parts of the story. Getting teary in other's. I WANT Meredith's quilt Lol. If you enjoy romance novels, and 'HISTORICAL' romance novels, then, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND 'Patchwork Bride.'

This is a wonderful story set on a horse farm in Montana in 1884. The characters are vibrant and alive with personality. The story deals with some great themes, such as cultural prejudice, trust, individuality, and being true to the plans God has for your life. People who enjoy historical fiction will enjoy this book. I am looking forward to the next installment in the "Buttons and Bobbins" series.

Again I get to happily visit Angel Falls. Funny how a series like this can become so real that each book is like a visit to long lost friends. :) I get to hear from old and new characters, and gain an even deeper connection to the lovely ladies! My heart is totally in this series. Can't wait for the next one!

I have just finished one of Jillian Hart Books called Patchwork Bride, Meredith is a big sister and proud to be one. She is in school and wants to be a teacher and an independent woman-she does NOT want to get married and do housework and cater to a husband..at least she did not think so until she meets Shane Connelly..she thinks of him a lot, will she change her mind about marriage?
