Kathleen Duey grew up in Colorado. She loved riding her horses, hiking, being in the mountains. Reading was always important to her. Writing became a fascination early in her life. In the fourth grade, Kathleen began writing stories and told everyone who would listen that she was going to be an author. Then she did nothing about it until she was 35 years old. Writing was her passion and her dream-come-true.

Reading this book was a little painful for me but painful in a good way. I was so nervous for Alida and Gavin as they went round and round the country side looking for the faeries' new home that I had to put the book down a couple of times and just take a break. I know...I cannot deal with too much suspense. I know, a 35-year-old adult describes a children's book as suspense is weird but I really felt that way. Like I wanted them to move faster and hide better and just find the faeries already. I enjoyed reading the book nonetheless and the world building is just really lovely. The story is simple so that obviously it would be easier for children to follow but it gave me enough space to build the world in my mind and the illustrations (pretty but not that many) are beautiful and help add to the image I have built in my mind's eyes. 4 stars because I felt that there were some parts that were slow (or maybe I'm just too cranky) but I would still recommend this book to my young students who loves faeries.
Following Magic picks up Gavin and Alida's story where Silence and Stone left off. Gavin, a human boy, joins Alida on a long and arduous journey to find her fairy family who were forced to leave Alida behind when the fairies were banished by Lord Dunraven. Constantly worried about being spotted by Dunraven's guards, Gavin and Alida have to travel quickly while hiding Alida's wings. This easy read will appeal to early elementary boys and girls who enjoy magic and fanciful creatures.
This series is about a young fairy girl who was taken from her family and locked up in a castle and kept in isolation for 60 years. Gavin, a human boy helped Alida escape in the first book. Now the two of them are searching for Alida's family who along with all magical creatures were banned from Lord Dunraven's land.
I am reading these books to my 4 year old granddaughter and she really likes them.
